After you beat the game what will you do? Capture some elites, get 100% map, do Protector and that's all. I want something, where we can spend our time during the game. That's the occupation. We could do some extra missions and get some rewards. The Elona is a great place to place this idea. I have thought about 3 types of occupation. Let me explain:
Istan - corsairs; when we join them, we could do some thief & spy missions, which can reward much, but there is a risk, that we will be caugh, which would lower our reputation on the terrain of this country (reputation system). Reward: we could buy a boat and we could swim to any outpost (which we visited) that is near sea. The boat also would be our place to gather to treasures.
Kourna - army; when we join them we could become one of the huge army and battle with other player or monster armies. The battles would last long and they won't be easy to end in one day. Reward: abbility to remake the greatest historical battles (such as Battle for Jahai).
Vabbi - merchants; after we join them we would have access to Gambling Districts where we could play in games a'la Las Vegas. The players will gain "Gambling Levels" which will be a good money source. Reward: when we will win/gain enough money we will be granted by access to the Housing Districts, where we could buy a house. The house would have the status of the huge storage place, thus we could decorate it of course. After we gain enough money we can upgrade its status (Flat -> House -> Mansion -> Palace/Castle).

You know, I came up with the reason I didn't like it, and the improvements that could be made, and well, it turned into a seperate IDea.
I don't like that it's NF only. Owning a house and decorating it is a little outside of the scope of GW. Plenty of other RPG's have that or similar already.
All I would support, is a place to gamble(available to everyone, or a seperate one per box version) to work on lucky and unlucky titles, and that's where my other idea evolves.

I like the general occupation concept. Of the three mentioned, I think the corsair is the most interesting. Other than the gambling, though, these look just like more quests, which - if they keep our interest - we would eventually finish. It's like an expansion for the expansion which would eventually also be old news.
I must say I love fishing/herbalism/etc. in WOW - its the reason I paid monthly fees for the game, so I'd love to see GW find something along those lines. Extra storage and a better trading system would probably be necessary, but hopefully they are working toward implimenting those anyway.
Other occupations:
Sorcery -making fun time-limited buff potions. These could turn players into animals, large and small, (using different recipes and ingredients) or randomly created chars wearing their clothes, or fun costumes. It could all be temporary. The recipes could be purchased like skills, and the ingredients would lead to complicated treasure hunts.
Prospecting/Archeology/Digging for treasure: In respawnable areas like locked chest, people could dig for artifacts and treasures. They could find pages of old manuscripts, lots of vendorable junk, and occassional good drops. We'd go crazy trying to find missing pieces if the whole picture was interesting enough.
Dancing/Acrobatics Just for fun we could spend gobs of money at NPC trainers to learn new emotes, dances and acrobatic stunts.
I would love to see fishing, cooking, herbalism, etc. which are in WOW, but I know that would be copying. Maybe others will come up with more options just as good.
