white cubes intead of heads

i get these big white cubs instead of players head...does anyone experienced this before? how should i solve this? thx in advance

oh that so happened to me before but on my koss. i warped back out and it was fine after that though

I had the same problem. My solution was to add -image to the shortcut run command. This downloads EVERYTHING off the server. I did it overnight, and in the morning no more white cube heads.

simliar but transparent model can be seen if you add the following dye combination to chaos axes...

grey+grey+silver

Hehe, I saw almost everyone running around with those white cubes when I un-installed Guild Wars, and had 20000+ files remaining to download.

If you can afford the time and bandwidth you might be able to try the --image switch and force the client to download everything. You may also consider, backing up your guildwars dat file gw.dat and performing the same operation. This will cause guildwars to download a fresh copy of all the required files.

I have been playing Guild Wars for quite awhile on my PC, which has the following technical specifications...


Windows XP Professional SP2
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+ ~2.2ghz
1534 MB RAM (DDR PC3200)
ASUS EAX550 GE/TD/256M Radeon X550 w/ 256 MB DDR (PCI-Express)
Sound Blaster Audigy SE

...and I am seeing the EXACT same thing. The same white cubes above the heads of players. I'll even attach a few images as proof. (I must note, this did NOT happen to me before. This only started happening after I had uninstalled Guild Wars, and now recently decided to install it again..)

A solution to this would be VERY APPRECIATED. If anyone needs any more information...I'll give it over gladly. Oh, and I am trying the "-image" solution presented before. I'm not too sure this will work..but I am trying it.

Those are typically signs of a corrupted .dat file. Rename it and download a new one. If that fixes the problem delete the old file. If not contact support.

so, and how do i do that - - image thing? i can and have the bandw. for it, tell me how, since i'm new in GW :P i installed the game yesterday and never touched on a single file on the GW folder...

Right-click your 'Guild Wars' launcher, then go to 'Properties'; then, there should be a command line along the lines of this:

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

Change it to and add -image to the end so it should look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

Apply, then OK. Then run Guild Wars launcher; it will begin to download everything for GW of the Server, leave it for a couple of hours to download, then when it's done. Right-click again and remove the -image of the command line you added before; then your set to play.

The "-image" trick works. At least for me. Its a terribly long download...and now Guild Wars takes up double the amount of space it usually does, but you do get EVERYTHING. A hidden benefit of this trick though is that, if you have the space and time, I do believe lag could be reduced. Why? Because now you don't have to download anything in the background. Loading should also theoretically be a bit faster. I'll have to test out some things more. Hell, if loading and lag are reduced significantly enough, I'll just use this method on every install of this game in the future... No joke.

Would installing Guild Wars in a completely different folder.. (other than Program Files...) help some? Like..on every one of my installs, I ALWAYS put it there, in the default folder. Would changing that help?

Also, how the heck do you mess with the ".dat file" anyway? How do you "get a new, fresh copy" of it? Yes, my problem is fixed, but I'm still very curious anyway.

Oh. And Josh, your character class combo rocks. Elementalist/Mesmer = Cool. I'm planning on building one myself. Go you. (Energy Storage+Ether Feast=Nice healing for Pre. =P)

I know...third post. I'm treading on thin water...but I forgot to address this quote. How the heck do you rename it and download a new one? I mean...I don't understand why you'd need to rename anything. And how would you go about downloading a new one? Basically: Explain how to do this in a touch more detail if you could..

Again, my problem, as far as I can tell, is solved. But I love understanding EVERYTHING about problems and their solutions. I'm wierd. Sorry. =P
