Waking up and scooting as fast as can to the computer to play some GW on your one free morning in the week only to discover... That two characters with five different sets of expensive armor between them have now useless knight's boots, that your favorite stance is now worthless, ad infinitum, ad nauseam, etc...

I understand that some of these things may be important to the segment of the gw population that pvps, but I wonder how many casual players see the same thing and just get ticked. Does Anet consider the effects this has on the carebear pve population or even care?

"Useless" and "worthless" are two of the most used words by people who overreact. Sorry but if you want a worthwhile discussion, don't use loaded words like that. Care to explain why and how those things are "worthless" and "useless?"

Well, I suppose that the knights boots aren't useless, they do keep mud off your little person's feet and will help on the odd chance that they get smacked there, but the global damage reduction was much nicer. And the stance, which worked well because very few monsters bothered to knock you out of it, now costs way more to keep up and for less time (well, this one isn't permanent... yet).

But I think you know what I was talking about in the first place.

The topic about Knight boots is well worn and has been thoroughly discussed.

You got to roll with the punches, so to speak, and accept the changes and use the changed skills, or find a new build that suits you better.

Knight boots were only an example, not the topic of discussion...

Basicly this thread is about all the recent changes screwing over the people that only play during the weekend or when they have a few spare hours.

I should have said it just like that to begin with.

Moderator note: I don't like dealing with "PvE vs PvP" flamefests, so keep it clean.

~~~
I don't recall any useful stances being nerfed. Knight's boots were nerfed half a year ago, sorry if you didn't get the memo then.
And no, Arenanet doesn't care about the whims of casual players because casual players don't care about anything so long as whatever they can slap on their skillbars gets them through missions and wins RA battles. If you were paying attention to armor and skill changes, you're a step beyond casual.
Anet caters to casuals more than any other company.
Why?
Well, consider that you only get to play during weekend for 2 hours. You can still be just as competitive as someone who has played for 2 years 8 hours a day. Granted, the difference in gameplay skill is there, but the gear doesn't stop you.
Go PvP in WoW with your casual 2 hour per week character, against epic armored instance raiding hardcores. You will lose due to game design.
Knight's boots? What's next complaint, protective bond nerf?
Yes, I agree, skill changes are annoying, especially of such extent. But hey, who wouldn't get bored of the same old build in 2 years. Boon prot was fun as well, but it got boring having one and only one viable monk build. At least things change through time and give a legitimate reason to switch.
What stance are you talking about? None of the warrior stances got any recent changes to their cost.
It's an online game. In online games, things change. If you don't like it, play something offline where you have the option not to download a patch if you don't like what it does. For a lot of us, skill rebalances keep the game fresh, be it PvE or PvP.
The defensive stances, which no self-respecting warrior used.
OP: Regardless of (usually hardcore) players telling you to 'quit whining' and other such novel concepts, I do know where you're coming from. It sucks to play a couple hours a week, learning the skills slowly but surely, obtaining armor and items that are the ones you want, and then logging on only to find your 15k boots that you finally decided to buy useless and the skills you knew all nerfed.
I still wear my 15k Kurzick knight boots that I bought 3 days before they changed everything around. I doubt I'll ever replace them as I spent and gave away everything I made during the Factions preview event. Sure, it sucks, but I also can't be too inclined to care. For me, what I do, and how I play this game (ie. casually), having a pair of Knights Boots doesn't really change my PvE game. I don't farm hardcore, I don't bring my PvE char into PvP to compete, and the only reason I really bought them in the first place was because they looked cool...and for all you jokers out there, they really ARE great at keeping the mud off my feet!
Now, when it comes to skills, I look at this long list of changes and am quite a bit overwhelmed. There are changes to many skills I haven't even unlocked yet! So yes, it's a little frustrating to say the least and yet, being someone who doesn't invest much in the world of Guild Wars, I also can't say I'm losing much sleep over it.
The game is just as fun as it was days before the new skill update (which I actually should be playing around with instead of posting here :P ), it will just take a little getting used to again...at which point they will probably have another twist to throw our way *chuckle*
Anyway, sorry you're miffed. Just remember that those of us who play casually do so because we have other things to do that we find more enjoyable than Guild Wars. If it's making you mad to play, take a few weeks off. By the time you come back, the skill update will be nothing but a memory
So they nerfed/changed a couple of things. So what, it isnt the first time and won't be the last time they do this... IMO u got 2 options, either quit the game or adapt to the changes, find alternatives and continue having fun!
