I have my very first Prophesies W/R char who, I am quite proud to say and after being battered from pillar to post by the "friendly" critters in the Desert, has finally reached the moment of truth - beat his Doppelganger to gain Ascension.
My query is this (after reading GuildWiki):
If I fail to beat him first time, do I get to keep repeating the mission until I finally do?
If I fail to achieve the bonus, can I redo the mission (like others) and try to achieve the time limit?
I also presume I do not have to take the "change secondary" quests if I am happy to remain as is? If so, can I come back later to do some (or all) of these quests and possibly change secondary later on?
Assistance appreciated.

You can do the mission as many times as you like but the first time you beat the bonus you get 50000 exp and then you dont get any exp for beating it thereafter
once you do the quest change professions you can change between them at any time you like

Keep in mind that you can freely switch between secondary classes now through the skills and attribute windows, so if you'd like to do the secondary profession classes and switch back to Ranger, there won't be any penalty.

thanks guys for the prompt answers.
Another query: If I do any of the change secondary quests (I am thinking of changing to ele) but do not actually change classes at the end of the quest, do I have redo the quest later on in order to change?
That is, is it better to do all change quests now so that I can quite easily change secondary class later on?

once you unlock the secondary skill, you can change back and forth as often as you like.

I would rather suggest that a prophecies character do the changing professions quest as that is a requirement for the second 15 attribute point quest.
You loose nothing from your old secondary so there is no reason not to do them. Save your build in a template, do the quests and change your secondary, reload the old template and you are right back where you were before.
Plus they are easy experience.

Just a word of advice...
Regarding the doppelganger...
Load yourself up with self-destructive skills that you have no intention of using.
I accidentally went to fight him, not knowing exactly what he did (nor how he worked), with my prototype runner build. That is to say I charged in without changing build and realised too late once I'd got in there.
I wondered for a while why I was completely unable to do any damage to the doppelganger.... and then suddenly I destroyed him with immense ease. It made perfect sense after... because I'd brought Shadow Form with me and that muppet didn't know how to use it effectively (i.e. Arcane Echoed).
