In my previous suggestion I explained about Occuaption. In the Istan - corsairs section I mentioned about my "reputation system" (rp) which I explain in this thread. I think that adding my third idea (Birthplace) to this post will be good, because they're both linked to each other.
Reputation System (rp)
There would be 3 (or 4) levels of reputation on the terrain of the each country (Ascalon, Shiverpeak Mountains, Kryta, Magumma Jungle, Shing Jea Island, Kaineng City, Echovald Forest, Jade Sea, Istan, Kourna, Vabbi), which would play a role of bonuses. After gaining 1st lvl (1.5k rp) we could get 3% "tax" (merchant buy for 3% more and sell for 3% less) in this country. Second level (5k rp) would lower this "tax" to 6% and would give us +3 to min. atack of equipped weapon and +5 to defense (-5 recived damage) on this country's terrian. Level 3 (10k rp) would lower the "tax" to 10% and would give us 5% chance to block incoming atks and would also give us 5% faster movement in this country. Gaining rp would be simple: for killing monsters (+4rp/0lvl, +3rp/1lvl, +2rp/2lvl+) and for doing quests (+10rp). After gaining 3rd level we would gain spare rp, which we could spend for buying some items (for exs. buying Expert Salvage Kit for 2k rp, buying SoC for 1k rp). The reputation would lower by 1% every day (starting from spare points). Also the corsair occupation would lower rp (-100rp) if you will be cough.
Birthplace
Before we start the game we could choose where we were born (countries from above suggestion) which would give us higher reputation (by +1 from monsters and by +10 by quests) and some bonuses. For ex. born in Magumma Jungle would cast spells 1/4 faster, when born in Shiverpeak Mountains would atack 5% faster. The Birthplace will also give us minuses. Born on Jade Sea will start with first lvl luxon reputation (and the rp couldn't be lowered below 1st leavel), but they will gain kurzick reputation slower and they can't join them before 2nd level.

Considering you recieve deductions when using Merchants in the area you have chosen.
How many people would choose Ascalon, and how many the Ring of Fire?

Hmm...I dunno...this seems just a tad confusing.
