Note that any profession can use any weapon, shield or focus. You won't use them *well* unless you have an attribute for them either primary or secondary. A warrior often has a long or flat bow equipped in an alternate slot to help with "pulling" enemies to where the team waits to slaughter them. The purpose of the bow is then to say "hey we're here" rather than inflict damage.

The section on Professions will explain each one. The site will explain the game.

As DeanBB said, any profession can use a non-normal weapon for certain purposes - trapper ranger will use a high-energy source staff instead of a bow; mesmer will use a sword for the skill Illusionary Weaponry, etc.

Um, I think you have confused "melee" with "physical." Spears (that are thrown) and bows are not melee.

I am well aware of the difference, HOWEVER in game mechanics bows and spears are considered martial weapons (since that is the type of inscription they use) even though technically martial weapons are not ranged either.
Again, I was just trying to explain things for a new player who was asking about weapons and my post was meant to be concisive, while yours is more flamebait then anything else.

Anyway, even though you can use whatever weapon on any character if you have the right attributes and have a wierd build GENERALLY speaking and especially if you are new to the game, what I said is the most accurate.
