Which Class do you think will be the first to solo more then 1/4th of an area in DoA?
drakun01
I am just wondering what you guys will think it will be and why. Personally, my money is on the Invincisin, because it can tank anything that doesn't either remove enchants with a skill or cause massive conditions.
Mesmer in Need
witte will be able to answer this, as hes the solo genious.
drakun01
Very true. Where is he when u need someone to loom into the crystal ball =P?
DAS Achilles
my guess is sin aswell but S.F. nerf so mabey not

Now that's a challenge! too bad I'm still at only 75% at NF with my war or maybe even less..too bad I'm freaking busy with my exams.
btw: The warrior will be able to solo it first (hope so^^)

Crowell The Fallen
due to the balanced nature of the monster groups (warriors, monks, eles, rangers, etc) i dont think it will be possible for any one class to solo a whole 1/4 of DoA. however, i do believe a 2 or 3 man team may be able to do 1/4 or even more. but these builds probably wont come out until after the skill "balance".

I was wondering, could an E/Me using Obsidian Flesh, Stoneflesh Aura, Armor of Earth, Sliver Armor, Arcane Echo, Stone Striker, Mantra of Earth, and Aura of Restoration or Glyph of Restoration be able to solo any part of gloom or another area?
darkrawlinson
EH?? Sins are well valued now? Nice
Um In stygian Viel, when they cut the Soh time in the weekend, I was able to take down the Shadow Aarmy in Stygian. It was because they down timed Soh that Sins did not need to cancel Soh, So I was like hell yes... A-net you just made my day. I basicly used d tombs build, but I replaced DE withe BoS. Unfortunately though, when I took the quest and those Hungers came, I didnt know that they had touch skills... so I ran to them and came out dead. I couldnt escape at the first sign of Touching, cus I ddint have DE. I'm sorry I do not have proof of this cus i forgot to take pixs, but believe me or not, Shadow Monks were easy prey thanks to BoS. I was hoping that Soh would still have that downtime so I could try it out again after I got home from school, but sigh no it doesnt. I am guessing though that perhaps the W/Rt build or the Rit build that Wittie used in Urgoz Warren can take Sygien down. Well So far thats what I was upto in the weekend.

AC10
I'm betting a monk or elementalist will be first, although warrior stands a chance.
Why_Me
The problem with warrior is that the damage is just so friggin high, 600ish on a caster. That being said, there are also hexes and conditions that kill.
Sins, shadow form may look good, but looking at the skills and quests, it just doesn't look like it will work. The margonite dervishes have that wind prayers AoE skill, 200 damage. The stygians have choking gas and touch skills. And the ravenheart gloom quest requires you to keep some NPCs alive, so you have 40 seconds to kill 10 enemies, not enough. That being said, there are two other ways of gaing permanent immunity to spells, obsidian flesh and spell breaker, both of which can be chained indefinitely through QZ (the enemies use). Working on something with my ele for torc'qua.

maybe 1/4th was too big a requirment ( god i hate spelling that word). Anyways, Witte your W/Rt build can farm almost anything, but i have to agree with Why Me in that the damage will overpower VwK. Anyway, I was looking at the Wiki and at some of the monsters, it seems like Torc'qua will be the first to be soloed, followed by Gloom.
Also, the likely skills to be use the first build are spell breaker, obsidian flaesh, or Vow of Silence.

Later tonight I'm gonna try out the build I posted (since I finally capped Obsidian Flesh on my ele), and I'll let you all know how it goes.
Bloodied Blade
Well...I don't see Vow being well-used in DoA...it won't stop any actual physical damage unless you run heavy enchants + maybe conviction for +armor.
RebelHero
There allready is a N/A or N/R build which can solo a large part of stygian veil.
Searche and ye shall finde.

My War Can Solo Everythin
A warrior cant solo DoA
Btw there is another melee class that can solo the entire DoA...
The Sin
There are only 2 thing that can kill a Sin during the famous Shadow Form:
1- AoE damage (but they still cant cast skill on u, so its not a problem, only wurms can damage you when they pop up, 30 damage rofl.)
2- Touch skills (i didnt c touchers in DoA)
U'll be able to solo DoA with the "Solo tombs Sin style" build, of course.

@RebelHero:
The point is to speculate about which profession will be the first to completely solo one part or more of the DoA. The N/A (love it, btw) can't solo the entire veil

Problem is for eles, there are healers that need to be killed which can be difficult with a random killing skill such as Sliver Armour. Also, once you kill the rangers, you wont have QZ any more...

My War Can Solo Everythin
Then you can easily farm the rest
The only things a Sin cant solo are the touchers.
So the veil maybe cant be done, but if u inflict posion+bleed+deep wound and run away
until they die, u still can do it.
Touch skills ignore armor and shadow form, so can be hard.

Rukh Well, you could be an E/R and either bring your own QZ or use Serpent's Quickness.

The margonite dervishes have this, and it deals about 200 damage. Margonites invest the entire city and part of the foundry.
[skill]Chilblains[/skill]
The titans later in the foundry have this. Guess what, it strips shadow form.
The ravenheart gloom however....

Well, I tried running this build in Ravenheart Gloom:
[skill]Obsidian Flesh[/skill][skill]Stoneflesh Aura[/skill][skill]Armor of Earth[/skill][skill]Sliver Armor[/skill][skill]Quickening Zephyr[/skill][skill]Glyph of Concentration[/skill][skill]Serpent's Quickness[/skill][skill]Troll Unguent[/skill]
It works pretty well for about 5 seconds. However, it has some energy management issues and not enough healing to counter all the degen. Any ideas?

Xiaxhou of Trinity
@ Senrath: Stone Striker+Storm Chaser will keep your energy full if you juggle with Serpent's+Obsid Flesh. You could try and witch out glyph of concentration with glyph of resto, 100+ heal every 8 sec, though timing against interrupts will be hard......

The ravenheart gloom however.... Margonite's spell fails with shadow form on, and SF cant be stripped.
All spells, hex, attacks fails when shadow form is on, but touch skills.
Monster-only skills included (like finger of chaos).

You might want to check Guild Wiki before you answer anything..
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Shadow_Form
Chillblains indirectly targets Shadow Form and removes it.

Chilibians can strip Shadow Form.
edit: And since someone already beat me to that... I'm not sure if the Tombs build can out dmg the monks since the weekend is over and blades of steel is back to normal.

Incorrect. Notice that Chilblains does not need to target in order to strip an enchantment. Also notice that Shadow Form says that you can not be targeted. Since you're not being targeted, Chilblains still has it's full effect. GG SF.

what about this for a basic monk farming engine, minus the damage:
Prot Spirit
Mystic Regeneration
Spell Breaker
XXXXXX
XXXXXX
XXXXXX
Balthazars Spirit
Essence Bond
Blessed Aura
the only problem i have so far is damage. All my usual favorites (IW, SoJ, VwK because of how i can 55 with just that and prot spirit, which is fun xD) because the elite slot is taken. A Mo/X build would look like this:
Prot Spirit
SoA
Spell Breaker
XXXXXX
XXXXXX
[regen skill if open]
Balthazars Spirit
Essence Bond
Blessed Aura
So the only problem i run into is damage, and i hesitate to use AV/SV like that one guy did, because a lot of the people who tested it said it didnt work.
Another idea I had was for a ranger partner to bring Quicksand, which is -1 energy for every spell or attack, so it works like a lesser AV/SV, which have AoE effects, and still use famine.
What I think would be really sweet though would be for someone to solo all those Stygian Hungers, because they r so easily accessible. Could u snare, then nuke them down quick enough maybe?

LOl,no a/me tombs build wont work, the enviromental affect in gloom stuffs it up, but i do use a build to kill around 10-20monster in gloom.
darkrawlinson
naw stygian is soloable with the tombs build. The Shadow Army part atleast. BUt the touchers are d big problem. Seeing as how it goes thru sf and dey can spam an 80+damge touch.. well I kept dieng lol
zeramoth
i already can, i might post a guide later if u are nice
flipfly2004
stygian can be soloed by a ranger or a necro... takes a god damn while though... got bored so i quit
as for 4 Ravenheart Gloom i used to solo the wide area with my ele but i didnt like the drop rate... farming somewhere else for cash is faster than getting those gemstones
id rather do smiteruns rather than soloing those areas because its faster
its even faster to get $$$ if u farm somewhere else but im not farming for $$$ but for the challenge ^^
there's a 2-man guide for The Foundry of Failed Creations and the city somewhere in these threads if ur interested

DoA will never be soloable. Anyone can use Shadow Form to degen off some random enemies. Its so slow its not worth it. Killing off Torment mobs including a Blessed Light healer will take ages. Stygian Hungers wouldn't even be possible. City you'd be out of energy instantly. Gloom you'd never get a chain of attacks. Foundry... just no.
Personally before someone has a miracle claim that they've 'soloed' Stygian Veil i want it to involve doing at least part of the first quest. Killing those Shadows can be done by any Shadow Former.
Semi-solo is good enough for me. The drops are the same, the exp is the same.
