I'd put a improved sale mod on it :0

Well, in my experience, merchant value prices are just totally random numbers pulled out of some pre-determined list that someone at ANet decided to make up one day when they were in the "lets make a list of pointless numbers" mood, and the actual item has a 0% impact on the merchant sale value for usable items. Apparently some people think there is some kind of pattern to armor values or at least there used to be, but I don't think so about that either.

I've seen similar prices once or twice. Maybe not 5xx but definitely 4xx. The price thing is seemingly random, yes, but the item's rarity (color) and number of mods / upgrades seem to influence it positively.
Malice Black
I've seen 1 or 2 with high merchant value like that. Nothing exciting.

I had a 560ish, but an improve sale mod only bumped it by about 20 gold. >.>
Vilaptca
In my experience it seems the higher the requirement, the higher the merchant value.

Item values are funny.
If you ID the Kournan and Vabbi white items, their price bumps to 100+ commonly. Non-max, high-req, no mods, no inherent stats.
White loot from RoT is usually in the 56-66 range.
Doesn't make much sense, but makes farming for gold somewhat easier.

My req 13 Shadow Scythe sold about 550 g. Thats the most value item I've sold to merchant.

i just got a 600+ one out of a treasure chest, its the highest one ive seen so far since i started playing

Heh, my theory about gold items having a 4x multiplier on price still holds. Adding a precious inscription throws it all out the window.
The max I've gotten was a 464. Most of my junk's in the 200-240 range.

The mods that jacks the price up is "Show me the Money".
I think you got really lucky on the random value of that gold item.

I have a Holy Vial worth 642g at the merchant. Highest I've ever seen.

I don't know why golds don't sell for more to merchants that UNDER 1k. That seems way too low, imo.

many of the rarest items in the game's existence are worth under 200gp to the merchant.

They really need to bump up the merch prices on greens to something like 500g at least.
