Trade, Search , AFK solution, easy

1.The party search is a great innovation, I would like to be able to have more room to type what I'm selling though. There's plenty of spare room in that window.

2. Whisper, the way it is,sucks. If you're in LA d1, trying to sell your wares, and realize you have to go to the bathroom, any PM's you recieve might get scrolled out of the chat buffer. 2 ways to improve on this would be to make each users Whisper section of chat seperate from the rest, or to make each whisperer have a seperate pop up window/icon while in town.

3. Have a Buy and Sell section in the Party Search, instead of just trade.

4. Increase the ease of getting "excessive message." This will gently ease people into the Party search, and reduce the public/trade channels rate of scrolling.

Any of these items would help create a better system. They're all relatively easy, expecially compared to other possible solutions(AFK stores such as knight online) or trading districts/zones, or NPC auctioneers.

1.There needs to be more space in search menu, it's pretty obvious
2.Giving everyone their own pop up window, you'd have so many going on, when you're trying to sell
3.If you have more room in search menu, it's easy to see whether people are buying or selling
4.I already have enough problems with excessive messaging when talking to my friends, no need to make the rest of us suffer just because you don't want people to sell you something

If you get excessive messages, from chatting you're hyper aggressive with what you're saying, or spamming lol, wtf, ftw, and omg way too freaking much.

I can BS/joke around in chat with the best of them and I've never had excessive messaging unless something is spammed.

What about this:

When you are AFK, you usually put the "Away" status on... What about a Pop-up that says like "*Name* tried to message you when you were away: *message from the player*"

If you try to chat someone with the "Away" status, a pop-up will come up and say like this:

*Player Name* has the status Away. You could leave a message which he could read when he returns to the computer

*Line to write in a message*



That would solve the noob problem, but you would have to be more active in putting the statuses on and off, which not everyone does.

Problem with any sort of messaging system is that it would eat up server space. As it stand the server only has to track any message for time X, after that it's dumped. Then there is the 'how long does a message survive' issue. And 'I got a message when I was AFK but I accidentially killed it and I want it back' I think the messaging system would be a huge thing that has no real simple solution....

I too agree the ability to up arrow and hit enter immediately at least 3 or 4 times in a row is ridiculous. They need to make it so if 50% or whatever of what you just put in the chat window is the same as the last XX messages, it will deny the message. Also only allow XX messages sent in XX amount of time. This will prevent people from typing 10 lines of 1 -3 word messages, where they could have typed 1 or 2 messages and said the same thing.......just some ideas....

If the chat works like most others, GW relays it all out to each user, but doesn't keep it loaded in server memory. A pop up would be no different, like ICQ or similar messenger.
The pop up would be more work, if anet's up to it cool, if not, oh well.

I'd atleast like to see the whisper not dissappear with the rest of the text, if it is all client side(it should be), this should be less work than the party search innovation was.

The most logical things to do would be:
1. PARTY SEARCH
-Increase line space in the box.
-Make a tooltip for Party Search that recognizes when you say LFG or GLF every so often. Many people just ignore the Party Search because it doesn't have enough spotlight or grandeur.
2. AUCTION/TRADE/PARTY SEARCH IMPROVEMENTS
-Party Search window allows you to drag an item into a special box and the exact stats of the item appear.
-Auction districts in town
-Same stat posting as before, bids are listed from Highest to Lowest in Top to Bottom order.
-Unlike trading, the amount of money can be transferred from your storage account to allow for higher bids than 100k.
-The person bidding can choose to have the money go into his/her bank account
-If the bid host is d/c or leaves the game, the bid is cancelled.
-The bid host can cancel the bidding session.

These updates would completely remove clutter in town, guarenteed.

Forgot to add:
-PM's would be below the chat box in the default UI config. The chat box could be made slightly smaller and moved up a little bit.
-In the new PM box, friends changing online status and logging in/out would be announced.
-A status bar in the Guild Window could do the same thing.

#1. You obviously don't type as fast as I do, I along with many of my friends are fast typers.

#3. Adding a checkbox like emotes, all, and team would work nicely for whispers.

anet could reduce spam in towns by about 300% with a simple ingame auctionhouse...

Its a nice idea, but just because if they coded some sort of ingame auction...even if they did it by simply sticking in a link to guru auctions and have guru changed so you could log in through GW with your existing GW account...it would be 100x better.

The Friends list and Chat window each have their own server, seperate from the servers used to play the actual game. So making both windows better would not affect the game server in any way, but if done sloppy could lag your system.

They should definately do something about the spamming in chat. I refuse to use Local or Trade channel because of it. Turning it on for more than 5 minutes at a time makes me realize how childish and stupid half the guild wars community is.

Like the above poster said...just make an auction house on a seperate island that anyone can travel to at any time. While they are at it...INCREASE STORAGE by x5.

While I fully concurr with the second part of the quote, the likely hood of creating an auction house is pretty much Nil.

It might be a better solution, but it would require massive amounts of work on the part of anet, something I've heard they're not going to do for existing chapters.

I don't think it would would work smoothly anyways, due to collector items and such, some things sell better in certain locations. If you want to buy feathered avicara scalps, it's simple easy and unrude to ask in droks if someone has a couple extra, and you usually get an answer promptly and kindly, and don't get raped on prices.
Compare that to having to zone out to a different island and sort though all the junk of every chapter, could take hours.
And the whole leaving the game, but not exiting, to guru, well, that brings up entirely too many complications, when all you need to do now is alt+tab, or god forbid, close GW for ten mintues.

Sure, we can all say we want a seperate map with vendor booths for each player, and we may as well ask for in game supportev voice chat, and webcam support while we're at it.

Adding a checkbox for whispers would not solve the fact that they still dissappear when they hit the top of the scroll, normal chat, and trade chat are always there pushing it up, wether you have them checked or not.

I'm not too concerned about the ability to socialize in the local chat channel, it's more of a concern that spamming begets spamming, and speed of scrolling increases.

My topic was suggested fixes, and why they would work.
Everyone else flames, flame bates, or just hijacks the thread for their own ideas, which likeley didn't even occur untill they read the thread, and aren't at all thought out or original, or even with the title, easy or solutions.

Well....since we are talking about improving the search window...how about this.

First of all, make the window collect data from all districts of all towns. If this is just not possible, then have seperate servers maybe, but have them selectable in a drop down box within the window. The other alternative of course is to leave it as a district only thing, but that sucks. The window would have to be larger of course, but make seperate boxes in the trade tab to type in the item name, quantity, and a space for a reasonable description of the item. A search box would also be nice within the trade tab to look for keywords within the item name or description.

Next to that info, allow the player to create a starting price, and set the time of the auction, or do a "Buy it now" feature like ebay. The player would then lose the item he is selling, and get it back if the item does not sell, or if he leaves a town. Other people browsing the trade tab would be able to change the starting amount ONE TIME ONLY and have that amount of gold removed from them. The bidding player would cancel his bid and get his gold back if he leaves town. By the end of the auction, the player who bid the most wins, and gets that item. Everyone that lost would have their gold returned.

The idea is alot like a WoW rip-off, but from a developers standpoint I believe it would be much easier to create. I seriously doubt they would bother doing it anyways though. :/

From a develpoers standpoint, they would have to start from scratch and it sounds like it would require much more work and testing, instead of changing some variables like most of my suggestions would require.
