Is Razah worth it?
creelie
Normally I loves me some Guild Wars, but the monsters in Domain of Anguish could harsh Bob Marley's buzz. The PvE mobs aren't much fun either.
I have no interest in any item I would hesitate to customize, nor in selling gemstones for massive profit. Those of you who have the ritualist in your hero stable and got him by questing, is he all by himself USEFUL enough to justify what you went through to get him?

My husband and I have been doing DoA and just recently got him Razah. We got the titan gem doing the foundry and he bought the remaining stones needed. I would say he is definitely a choice and not a must have. Personally I am not all inclined to get him but might for 1 charactor.
Definitely don't think he is worth it tho for all 12 of my charactors!
Guess it boils down to how badly do you want a rit hero? For me DoA isn't about Razah but the accomplishment of completing all the missions successfully.

OK so me beeing the above mentioned hubby........
Razah was for me something I wanted on this one character just to have it. I made him Rit LOrd with a twist due to energy and hero's just not beeing all that smart. He works but to say I can't do without no he takes a spot normally used either for my hero MM or prot monk and probably not be used a lot.....

I wouldnt worry about Razah till the gems are super cheap. In my opinion 120k for a hero is stupid and not worth it. Only time I could see some use out of him is for pvp and then all you need is 6000 points to unlock him which is easy to get and cheaper. Id rather waste my sets of gems on a coffers lol.
Also for the pve part of the game you only need 3-4 of the heroes to make it thru the game yourself other then when they mandatory a mission which even if they at low level you can still beat them. Those heroes are Koss, whispers and norgu. Only reason I said 3-4 is because you can get olias that way dont have to keep switching whispers from ss to mm. With those characters you can make it thru the game including gates of madness by yourself.

Thank you for your thoughts, everyone!
Meo Yeong, that's an interesting point - do you think there's a good chance that gems will get cheaper over time? An awful lot seem to be going towards coffers and armbraces, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Everything tends to get cheaper, although might not happen quickly with gems and ambrace especially. Once more and more people get through DOA in the next couple months, I see pretty reasonable prices.

DoA = waste of time
Seriously if I am going to waste time I will do something useful like do Random Arenas and get my Balthazar Faction over 1 million (at 880k at the moment). Razah is not worth the what 2 1/2 hours to get. Seriously if you want to use your time go ahead but man your wasting good time to go into Random Arenas and see some stupid **** people are saying.

Well this is just an opinion but gem prices have been going down slowly. We looking at 70k titan, 8k stygians, 12k margonits and 16k torment. They where all higher then that no longer then a week ago.
However, DOA seems to be slowing down since people are getting frustrated with not getting groups and such. Also they fixed a bug so getting those 4 final gems for ebony citadel is not as easy as before so peopel are spending more time trying to get thru ebony citadel instead of the other missins and farming. This slightly reduces teh pool of gems comin in from that.
So overall all I really can say is time will tell. Note though that in gw most items go down eventually after they wear off being the latest and greatest.

I personally find Razah useful in PVE, where you have the time to fully utilise the spirits and skills. Not in every PVE build but enough to make him useful.
Plus as mentioned he is the natural conclusion of the elonian map, so eventually you will get him.
I dont personally see why he has been made so tough to get, however yes I would get him and as with all items in GW the gem prices if you plan to buy them will fall.

People keep mentioning that its tough to get Razah, it expensive - so what? If everything was easy there would be nothing to aspire to and everyone would have the best equipment and tons of cash.
I'm glad it's hard, it's all a learning/ability curve and there has to be a high end.

I'm glad it's hard, it's all a learning/ability curve and there has to be a high end. I'm glad it's hard too and agree but why put a silly rt at the end ? it's pointless.
why not just have a super boss or something similar and a team of 12 trying to defeat him or her?
you get all other hero's easily & then a sill rt boss at the end..... silly...v silly...

Going back on track...
Razah is worth what having a ritualist is worth. If you've never used a ritualist and could not care less about them, then he's not worth a whole lot. If you have played rits and know how a well placed Shelter can make that fight against The Drought a piece of cake or how a well placed Displacement can render the most terrifying of warrior bosses inept... Then you know what he's worth.
As an example, Razah is the MOST useful hero (if we're comparing heroes) against Mallyx himself. Mallyx has no answer to spirits. So, Razah can lay down Shelter + Union + Displacement and your party can actually stand there and fight the guy without having to do the rebirth trick or run around like headless chicken. Of course, a human Rit Lord would be 50 times better, but among heroes, yeah, he would be the most useful in that fight.
On the flip side, you can just go through all of PvE with 2 SF ele heroes and the rest really does not matter until you get to the Realm of Torment.
To summarize, he DOES give you a dimension that no other hero can give you, but if you're just looking for a bunch of joes to get you to your cap spots and stuff, then he won't be worth 100k+. You can always wait till Titan Gems are 5k and then get him.

I'm a Ritualist. I've spent many a platinum purchasing every Ritualist skill and the Capture Signets to capture all the Elites. I absolutely love the Ritualist class, and many a time have found myself wondering "Man, if only I had another Ritualist for (insert any four skills here)! 8 slots is not enough!"
That being said, I most certainly will eventually be attempting to unlock Razah soon. I'm putting other things higher on the priority list until things start calming down in the DoA, but rest assured I will be making every effort to get those gems and pick him up.

I find him worth it since I have all Ritualist skills unlocked. However if you do not have a Ritualist with many skills unlocked don't waste your time.
I have him unlocked for three characters all from doing and completing the DoA quests with one character. This has taken 2 months of hard work to accomplish.
I find PvE Razah as an accomplishment and will not complain if ANET makes an alternative HERO Rit for others to get.

Even if they hand one out someday?

With the impending nerf to Searing flames, and the impending buff to the channeling line... it might be worth having him.

Is he worth it? Ask yourself this...
Did you play a ritualist? Did you like it? Have you picked ritualit henchies when playing the games?

He was certainly worth 6k faction.
Navaros
I say no, he's not worth it because you can only take 3 Heros. which could already at present result in party slots stocked with similar or better assets than the slot Razah would take up. If the devs let you use 7 Heroes, then Razah would be worth getting.
Maria The Princess
Razah is defenetly not worth it if you dont have GW:Factions

Personally, I think its more of just a bragging rights thing, Or just to have him and say that you have him. I mean I love love love my ritualist and I love playing on her, But I don't think its necessary to have one in your group.
You can make any character a Rt secondary and load them up with spirits, Granted you won't have spawning power so it won't be as effective. But I don't think he's an absolute need. With the cost it takes and the time it takes to get him, I think its just more of a "Hey I have Razah" thing. I doubt I would even use him all that often if I did have him.
I have to agree though with Navaros, If you could have 7 hero's then he would most definatly be worth it. But I always have my 3 main hero's with me at all times, so I'd have to drop one of them to make room.

Is he worth it? For the moment, not really. I admit I only got him for the sake of completeness, but with the limit to three hero slots, I'm finding it hard for him to replace anyone in my current Hero lineup. Perhaps after the final skill changes come around, I'll reconsider. But right now, his steep price(PvE-wise) would only be justified if his profession was variable.

I'm a Rit lover and if I get Razah, it will be in a month or two when gems are cheap or DoA groups are more efficient than they are now. Even then, it will only be on one character or two.
With the impending buffs to channeling and weapon spells I could see some use for a rit hero.
I'm annoyed at Anet for making Razah just 6k Balth faction for pvp, but a pain the keester for pve.
Maybe when I'm bored with the next chapter, I'll try to get Razah on all my chars.
The Effort =/= The Reward in this case. Unless there's not much left for you to do.

Well, he is this 'tought' because he was ment to be a variable primary proffesion hero - ANet dropped that idea for some reason (and why? :/ this idea was great >.>)
As I see it, hero Rt hench is not good Spirit Spammer (I think Ranger with Oath Shot does that 10x better), he might get more useful if channeling gets buffed - and only, if you have Factions. Restoration? I'd rather get hench monk with me.
So imho no, he's not worth it.

DoA groups will never be more efficient... pugs are awful down there. Only teams hand picked from a friendslist can go the distance.
I decided to get him (better than wasting it on 5 Elixers... aka a Coffer). I still haven't used him yet though, given him an Explosive Growth MM build for the moment, was hoping to try him out with Splinter Weapon.

I use N/Rt heroes for spirits, mostly. This is when I'm playing a ritualist as well! There's about 6 spirits that draw upon their life that make Spawning useful, but for most it's better to have Soul Reaping. The two necro heroes can be used for spirits and minions (1 for each) and they give eachother energy - making multiple 25e spirits a doddle to summon. Me, I'll stick to resto/chanelling. Having said that, Razah whould probably make a good resto/chaneller too if a necro summoned the spirits for him... more space on his bar for spells that utilise spirits that way!
Karlos
For the record, it IS possible to just farm the Gems, you don't need to pay 100k for Razah. You can just do a number of runs in each area till you get a gem drop or complete the area. It's good PvE fun to begin with.
Kid Divinity
Like any other profession, his usefullness depends on how good you are at building the bar.
Personally, I love having him along. I run him with my Rit. 2 Rits dropping spirits (offense and defense) + an MM > most things in PvE. Those prot spirits help the minions too.

I think that Razah is worth it. I've always found Ritualists to be a lot of fun to work with, as well as being very good supporting characters that complement the party's monks (and spikers, to an extent) very well. I've also found them to be invaluable on the occasions when I've had to defend a specific location.
The question is, do the unique talents of a Ritualist suit your style of gameplay? Could you integrate Razah into your strategies? Or would you never use him?

Karlos (2 posts below yours) and company are working on getting their time down for the entire DoA run from 6+ hrs to about 4 hrs IIRC. And if I went I'd go with a group like his or some of the other ones who've posted about their successes down there.
@ Kid Divinity: Offensive spirits are awesome in pve but the time needed for setting them up is annoying. They're really only worth it when you're dealing with extremely tough mobs. Otherwise an SF ele, a barrager, and an MM will get the job done in less time.
Razah would be a good fit with another rit b/c you need time to set up your own spirits anyway.

A rit hero would certainly be nice to have, but I just can't see how paying over a million gold to get him for your pve toons is worth it.

Is Razah worth it? Not in the least. I have done DOA several times and gotten him and he stays at the back of the line all the time. I never use him, the time I wasted in DOA to get him could have been used better elsewhere.

OK... But this still does not come close to answering the question of if Razah is worth it. Let's say Razah was the only Necro hereo in the game. Still... is it worth 100k+ or hour upon hour of cookie cutter build running in Anguish to get him? The answer has a little to do with their value to their party, but more to do with the effort needed to attain this value. Ritualists? I dunno.. after the spirit nerfs... I haven't gotten Razah if that is an indication of whether it's worth it to me or not.
Cherno
It does answer the question. If you value having a ritualist in the party, then you will do what it takes to get him. It is near impossible to assign value to time in a question like this. I personally never used rit henchies when going through factions even though I have a male and female rit that I have finished all the games with. I enjoy playing them, but don't necessarily feel the NEED to go and get him. He is no more worthy than any other hench.
For me he is worth getting because I am a completionist on at least one of my characters. I am just not rushing out to get him yet. He would do awesome with my channeling build though and would make a nice supplement to hero eles.

I've completed all 3 campaigns with 8 different characters and I can't remember a single scenario where a Rit would've made my gaming experience any easier, faster or better.
