Haven't played this build in a while, but it's my favorite Beast Master build.
BM: 16 (12+3+1)
Marks 9 (8+1)
Expertise: Everything else
Hunter's Shot
Disrupting Lunge
Predator's Pounce
Ferocious Strike
Brutal Lunge
Melandru's Assault
Predatory Bond
Res Signet.
Erm actually I think you haven't played this build at all, since as Batou noticed, it's a BM build, with pet attacks, but... no pet
Erm if this thread is about your favourite pet: probably the Jahai Rat my new ranger tamed - I'm just disappointed they become bigger when they level up

I have a black moa named Zak. I could never quite find the right name, so I ended up with "Zak," even though I wasn't happy about it. I changed his name the other day, but had to change it back because I can't see him by any other name now.
I went through a lot of trouble to get him...but am thinking about getting a Phoenix at some point.
Hubby has a crab named Krusty XD.

Sorry about my lack of charm animal...i only used the build for a month or so when beastmasters were big after factions came out. I used those skills though...i swear.
As for my other pets, I have:
Red Crab on warrior (Thisis Notadum Name), named "Notadum Pet"
Elder Crane on monk (Bacon Soda) named "Baking soda."
Warthog on Necro (Msixteen Atwo) named "Em Sixty" (which is also known as "the pig)
Pheonix on Mesmer(Comical Marauder) named "Comical Pet" (since it looks so dumb with all it's pretty colors).
And, that's just about it. Keep comin with stories if u want! Don't forget your builds also!

I got my old Dire wolf Blitzkrieg. (Wolves(or any pet for that matter) > Spiders)
I've always enjoyed beastmastery build myself.
26 Jan 2007 at 18:08 - 20
well this was a long time ago before factions came out, i was up in the shiverpeaks trying to cap fercious strike ( or attack cant remember >=|) and the boss goes and charms an elder wolf, so i was thinking as long as i got charm animal on the bar might as wel get it, so after the fight ensued we kill him and i start using charm animal, id say i was lucky because a soon as i charmed him the henchies almost killed him =) and i got my cap -gives self +2 cookies- and ive been using him ever since, IGN= Gunthor The Impaler, Pets name= Elder Wolf ( lol i dont like naming him, elder wolf sounds more royal xD)

Many folks feel that due to the relatively high number of buffs vs peircing damage (shields up, bonelace armor...) spiders and dune lizards are slightly less than optimal. I think it's a relatively minor issue, and becoming less of an issue. I'd say only worry about it for high end pvp, and then you'll often be running a pvp character anyways. Stick with what you like (especially in this kinda thread) and don't worry about dogmatic opinions.

i know the perfect pet for your lurker, the black widow spider, just go into UW to get one
27 Jan 2007 at 03:44 - 24
I first made my Ranger as a charecter that would stay in Pre and get rich off of Charr farming and such. My favorite pet has always been the Warthog. So, I charmed a Warthog, and after i got a high level, i began Charr farming. The funniest thing i have ever seen in GW happened almost every time i went Charr farming. I would attack a Charr healer, and my little, tiny, low-level Warthog, would attack. Because the Charr healers dont like healing enemy's when they use Heal Area, They run away from melee attackers. So when my little warthog attacked, you would see this big, huge, Lion-oid Charr, running away from a little 1 foot-tall Warthog! It cracked me up every time i saw it. But theni went to post cuz i got bored. And now, i have beat the game, and i still have my life-long companion, Speedy the Warthog!

Still stuck with a stalker, named Claw. Haven't got to Kryta yet, and the only bear I saw made meat pie out of me, my party and everything else around. It was before the Searing, though, and it was during my second hour of play
Damage-wise, which are the best pets? I'm a Ranger/Elementalist.
Chris
This is a n00b question, but I'm one. How do I dismiss a pet?
30 Jan 2007 at 12:24 - 26
The species makes no difference, but the evolution, or development does. There are three kinds, from most to least damage and from least to most health: aggresive/dire, elder and playfull/hearty. How you deploy your pet determines it's evolution.
You can sell your pet to a tamer, there is one right outside Ascalon.
30 Jan 2007 at 18:58 - 27
I find I rarely play a pet these days; more and more I find I want to play with a precision that I haven't found with a pet build.
Nevertheless, when I do play one, half the fun is the imaginative/sentimental component. My stalker is the same one I've played with since Prophecies, well over a year ago, and is named after the sleeping Maine Coon it somewhat resembles that is often taking up an unfair share of my desk.
31 Jan 2007 at 00:31 - 28
The type of pet does matter damage-wise. Bears do less damage due to their 2 second attack skill (Brutal Mauling) that does absolutely nothing besides break charm animal. Otherwise, no pet is different from the rest. *Cough* Lynxes rule *cough*...excuse me.
For lurker we thought long and hard, and none of us wanted a black widow because they're over-rated in our opinion. We like lighter, more colorful animals. Black doesn't suit us.
Also, question for all of us....Whatcha think'd be cooler for an assassin with brown Ancient armor(Chest/Legs)/Vabbian(Gloves/Boots)? Jahai Rat or Crocodile? Right now I'm stickin to the rat, but wanna hear what you guys and gals here think.
31 Jan 2007 at 08:11 - 29
My ranger has a white tiger for his enraged lunge build. Jin has a hyena and Margrid has a lion. Looks kinda cool when everyone brings their pets.
31 Jan 2007 at 08:17 - 30
The rat. Crocodiles just don't fit the image of an assasin.
Thanks for the asnwers, I'll stick with the stalker until I find a better feline (cats rock!)

One thing to remember about pets is that your activation of a pet attack and the pets execution of that attack are different, sometimes the difference is a couple seconds.
So, if you start a second pet attack skill before the first has been executed by your pet the second pet attack is the one that you pet will execute and the first will be ignored even though you"paid" for the skill with energy.
I'm not sure I explained that very well. Another way to say it would be that pet attacks don't que like other attack skills.
I mention this because the only way to tell if your pet executed the attack skill is to look for the attack animation or the yellow damage numbers. So for me, the bigger pets better because they are easier to see when I'm at long/flatbow range.
I had a spider for a long time, but finally the smallish size made me switch. Now, in spite of the slightly lower dps, its a hearty bear because they are so freaking big compared to other pets.
02 Feb 2007 at 01:33 - 32
my favorite pet is THE RAT!
the rat doesn't seem all that kool at first but when you level him, he grows and becomes bigger than some characters. So basically, you have this massive rat walking around eating the enemies for you, its awsome. An added bonus is that it poison things too!
<---- "Da Phat Rat" is the name (i am coining this now, no one else is allowed to use this sweet name)
02 Feb 2007 at 01:40 - 33
had a dire widow... got bored of it...
made an elder red crab ftw. Named "Chum" (puns ftw)
do they do slashing or peircing >_>
02 Feb 2007 at 01:58 - 34
Rats don't poison things.... (The rumor was disease... the rumor for spiders was poison <_<).
But I love Striders from Pre. NOT MOA BIRDZ! >
07 Feb 2007 at 22:43 - 35
One drawback of the Strider from presear is that you cannot get that one free skill from master Ranger Nente after you sear (Endangered Species quest). Forgot what it was, but I'm sure I used it at some point and time (think it was Feral Lunge).
On another note, Rat it is I'm going for then...time to start the awful
pet-leveling system, death leveling just isn't my style.
No stories yet? Only funny names! C'mon, I know the ranger community is one of the most creative and ingenuitive players in Guild Wars!
13 Feb 2007 at 21:21 - 36
<--black moa for me, to lazy to lvl my pets
13 Feb 2007 at 22:06 - 37
My first Ranger, Alex the Eloquent, has a hearty Phoenix named 'Dead Parrot' in reference to a Monty Python sketch.
My 2nd has a dire Lynx called 'Ghostly Zero'.
And one of my other chars (my ele I think...) has an elder Crab called 'Cupil' after that cute floaty pet/weapon thing in Skies of Arcadia.
14 Feb 2007 at 19:49 - 38
silly questions, how can non-Rangers (Ranger as primary) have a pet?
14 Feb 2007 at 19:56 - 39
Through their Ranger secondary
< Dire Black Widow named Tricksy
14 Feb 2007 at 20:06 - 40
Dire Black Widow - Got it on a whim, never actually use it.
Named: Black Dire
Yes, highly unoriginal.
