Jeremy Soule...do you know him? He is the guy in charge of music for the last Guild Wars chapters. He's won many awards for his great work for Guild Wars, Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion etc.

I loved the music of the original Guild Wars game (Prophecies). Believe it or not, it is one of the reasons I carried on playing Guild Wars, because the music was simply stunning. Factions offered an Asian type of music and even though I am not a big fan of Asian music, it was incredibly good, but in my opinion not as good as the original.

But Nightfall's music was just a let-down. The gameplay was awesome compared to the older chapters in my opinion, but I think Jeremy Soule just lost it. I don't know, the music wasn't deep and I didn't get it.

What is your opinion?

I think the main problem with Nightfall music is the dynamic fight music. It becomes very repetitive and it doesn't let you fully experience the rest of the music. I've been very impressed with all of Soule's work, the man is very gifted, but I think it was just not handled optimally in NF. I wish the dynamic music could be disabled.

Though Factions had the fewest songs, I absolutely love the music in that campaign. Must be the Asian style.

Of NF's music, I only like the vabbi songs.

Prophecies was fine all around, but the battle pak is definitely noteworthy.

Not all of Nightfalls music was bad. Vabbi is one of my favourites! I like it because it is upbeat and cheerful.

The ones i really detest are the gloomy areas, such as post searing Ascalon, Ring of fire, Echovald, Desolation and Torment. It puts me to sleep.

I don't know what influences the music. I'd suspect Anet tells him what type to make for each area.

If you are reading this Anet, MY choice would be the upbeat and fast-paced music anyday! Keep it coming.

Yea most of the time i dont play with sound. I play in a window.. while doing other work...

anyways when i do play with sound its fun. I find the music of guildwars to be hardly noticable. Ambient noise, especially (as mentioned before) in gloomy areas

I actually got to see the man in person. Didn't talk to him but saw him. Where you ask? PLAY! Symphony. Was a great performance. They played his music from Morrowind which was also great.

Not a big fan personally. The music in these games just doesn't get to me. I find it more of an annoyance at times than anything else. It doesn't really get me going like I personally believe music in a game should.

Epic moments don't feel epic when the same piece of sound is looping in the background that was there when you were Level 1.

Wasn't some of the music left out for the Collector's Edition? At least I think that was one of the "features" of the C.E., but I didn't buy it. The tracks included are good, bit repetitive though.

He's done a lot of games (Neverwinter Nights, the Dungeon Siege series, Prey, Morrowind, Oblivion), and I think he's generally pretty good. Oblivion wasn't so great, bit more generic I think...

Can't commented about things being left out.

But yes Collector's Edition for Factions and Nightfall have a extra bonus soundtrack CD.

I got tired pretty fast of the 'standard' Prophecies music, so I decided to buy DS. Once listened I got hooked and bought more DS bonus music. (Including the Prophecies CE, just for the music...and the Divine Aura! )
Right now I've all the bonus music, and I still enjoy listening to it.

I don't know about your ears, But Nightfall's music is above the rest of the chapters as far as I'm concerned.

The music was of a different nature yes, but it had much depth and had a nice arabian/african flavor to it. But most of all, it fit the atmosphere and wasn't distracting like some other Guild Wars music.

I guess some people don't like it because its not all contemporary classic like the typical fantasy game?

Agreed. I've been impressed with all the music so far. It's nice to walk into a new chapter and be hit with completely different surroundings and great music to match.

It turns out I was a fan before I even knew his name, Total Annihilation being one of the first PC games I ever played. I can't have been twelve years old back then.

Supreme Commander can't come fast enough.

Yea who is jeremy soule? I keep Humming the music he make on Factions. Propeicies in Cystral desert is good music too, And Nightfall has the best music because when you fight, music with drums starts. But seriusly, the music from factions(Kaining center to Matuu keep) is stuck on my mind!!

JS is a very talented man indeed, but I just copied all the tracks to a CD and listen to them as I fall asleep (vabbi aids in insomnia).

But I prefer to set up soundtracks in iTunes. I have an UW farm playlist (filled with hardcore death metal hot off the grill from sweden), an FoW playlist (disturbed+rammstein is prominent in this one), a mission playlist (Dragonforce and Viking metal is all I have on this one), and a "standing around doing nothing of value" playlist (Pink Floyd :P).
