Rits suck. Borked class in my opinion : they gimp your own team AND the opposing team's damage so much in gvg that they make games last way too long and promote defensive crappy builds that are the reason people quit tombs years ago.
THAT is why factions sucks.
Also, assassins (for a long time) required every single build to have twisting fangs, which limited them to few (albeit enjoyable) combos.

Alriiight my anti factions list:
-area locking. I got factions before prophecies, so i was used to it
-wajjun bazzar maze. wasnt that bad, but kinda annoying
-not many people in high level areas like... unwaking waters?
10,000 faction wasnt that bad for me, because it introduced me to pvp (yea intresting, huh. Forced me to try something new (AB, AVA whatever you call it))
Cinematics? The little boy in minister cho's estate, and Danika. MUST KILL,,, ANNOYING VOICES
But factions is still my favorite. 5/7 characters came from cantha. Because its fast. and they look all asian. that too.

The only thing I don't like is the voice acting, the cut scenes, and the faction grinding for controlling a place....and the quests go to A, return to B, go to A, return to B.

Coming from a Anti-running pve player :
1. The Assassin hate was bad.
2. Timed missions were a pain, my reason for not trying to get protector
title
3. The 10k faction req. was a big hurdle for those wanting to complete
both sides of the game with all there toons (7 of them).
4. The Dredge, I thought the Dredge were out of place in the Echovald
forest, they went from SF to the forest ?????
But I would like to say, that after completeing Factions a couple of times,
some of the missions I hated turned into ones I loved, like VS, just a blast
to play with an MM.
Also the triple drop weekend was great, I used it to cap every single elite
skill in Faction on my Assassin, at lvl-4 skill hunter now, yesssss........and
managed to get a few greens along way to....

The city is my only complaint. Yes, Ascalon is awful and unenjoyable. But, where you're done, you're done. The only reason to go back was for a single titan quest WAY later. Kaineng City was just wrong. A mission or two? Fine. But, the fedex-ing wouldve been much more tolerable in any of the other areas. They really shouldve added more to Echovald and the Jade sea. Those were beautiful zones and we didnt need to spend nearly enough time there.
Aside from that. I loved everything... Even Vizunah. Take a decked out team, on your side, with Dual MMs and a rit or two and the other side barely matters. Same goes for Unwaking Waters. MM + Dedicated, Dragon-Interrupting ranger = Punch and Pie. Vive La Resistance!

I like Factions because it is different. I am beginning to appreciate the faster pace of the campaign and prefer my starter characters to start in Cantha.
After my chars leave the starter isle, I run them to Nightfall to grab the Heroes and then pick up the story in Kaineng City. Factions + Heroes = fun.

I never understood it myself. Factions was always my favorite....

Why do I hate factions? 2 reasons:
1. Locked gates
2. Kaineng City
Of course, the two reasons compound each other. I hate the setting of Kaineng City... the goddamn severs, the stupid exploding afflicted, more goddamn severs, etc, etc. I have absolutely no interest in playing through it and it simply disgusts me. Now, that wouldn't be a problem if I could just get a run from the marketplace to Cavalon/House Zu Heltzer, or even Maatu Keep. But I can't. I need to do 20 quests and 5 missions I don't give a shit about because some no-name guard won't let me through a gate.
I play the characters that have already gone through the drudgery of the city in the parts of the game that I like, but there's no way I will ever take another one through Kaineng, or get vanquisher/guardian of Cantha simply because I don't want to go back there.

i like factions. i start most of my characters in factions. i love the armr, and Rtiualists rock my sockcs in factions. but the change from shing jeas lvl 10-14's to kainengs lvl 20-24's without warning annoys me -.-

Cantha has been, and always will be, my favorite of the three continents just because nearly everyone else hates Factions and it pisses them off.

Looking back on it, Prophecies is still my favorite because of the variety. Factions is a distant second. I hated the faction grind part. Nightfall started off as possibly becoming my favorite chapter, but once you hit the desert, it became my least favorite one very fast. But I do enjoy all 3 of them. Prophecies has the best replayability. Factions is the best place to start a toon. Nightfall gave us some nice PvE skills.

Once you enter get out of the city into Pongmei valley, its all good. ^^
But ya...the voice acting sucked

Personally I just never liked the style of Factions. Also, introducing a profession like the Assassin into a chapter where you hit tons of exploding monsters that come in ridiculously big mobs was something bad waiting to happen. If assassins had been introduced in a chapter where skills like Moebius Strike were capped earlier and enemies were smart creatures that came in smaller groups, then I think the profession would be looked upon much differently. Afflicted Soul Explosion was adjusted so that it wasn't such a ridiculous pain to assassins, but not until Nightfall had been out for a long time and Factions became much less occupied.
The chapter did have some good qualities to it that I do love such as Alliance Battles/Ft Aspenwood, as well as lots of various skills and armors, but I just can't put it in as high regards as Prophecies or even Nightfall...

The start of Factions is fine, I love Shing Jea. Then you get shipped to this slum where all of a sudden you're getting spiked for 300 dmg each by the Afflicted, swarmed by ninja Am Fah, and worst of all, surrounded by the most god awful scenery ever. Not to mention it's confusing as hell.
As soon as you get out of the city though, Factions is not so bad. Not as good as Prophecies and Nightfall, but not terrible. I quit playing Factions a long time ago because of the horrible nerfs Anet made to the faction farming runs on the Luxon side. Also, the classes introduced in Factions are sub-par. Secondary professions at best.

Bride of the Atom
So many things about Factions were frustrating to me. "Hey, I need to do a quest that takes me directly in front of this mission portal! Oh, gee! The gate is blocked! I guess I'll need to run 800 miles in the exact same direction all over again to unlock it at the *precise moment*, even though I've already been here three times!"
The bestiary also drove me crazy. There wasn't any variation in things at all. I realize that all three campaigns had things that reappeared, but Factions was ridiculous-- swarms and swarms of afflicted and naga and Am Fah and such over and over and over. These swarms were never, at any point in time, fun or engaging to do battle with. It just sucked.
I made it to Cavalon and only have about 900 faction left to grind for until the next mission, but I've pretty much lost whatever motivation I had to finish the campaign (which was primarily for 15k Canthan armor). I don't like most of the male elementalist armor in the game, but I think both normal and 15k Canthan look awesome. I guess this is a Factions bonus?
Oh, yes! So much of it was an awful, awful, horrible maze of ugly crap. Especially the "run-down slums" area outside of Kaineng Center. And if you do all of the quests, you are there forever. (I've only played one Factions character to any length. Can you tell?)

I love Factions, the main reason why I done this continent completly in HM first ^^ Guardian and Canthan Vanquisher now.
About doing all the quests taking you a lifetime... Think again, Prophecies quests take a lifetime, not those of Factions Most are damn easy and fun too ^^
But then again I like Asian settings, etc.
Now the locked gates, the best thing of Factions IMO. So you can't run, BOEHOE, no more Faction Droks-alike runs *whine whine* Maybe now if you start a new profession you'll PLAY it instead of rushing it to the end of the game and be a complete idiot without an inventive build or with only 8 skills unlocked...
I can see why you find it boring starting it all over again, but only if you do them 3 times a day... I mean, I've seen a lot of people who have a char lv 15, don't like it or are bored and make a new char, etc. Come on, how can you know you really like/hate a class without having it played through-out a campaign.
I for one don't listen to gossip like mesmers and assasins suck. I made me a mesmer and pwned through Tyria and Cantha with no prob. Working on my assasin atm so I'll see what that brings.

I really like the setting of the game and the looks, but some of the missions get a bit tedious as well as battling the afflicted at every step. Still, I love the place and keep going back there to enjoy the sounds and looks. It just feels good to go to the harbour area of Wajjuun Bazar and just zoom in to first person mode and look around at the high buildings.

I really like factions, it has a nice pace to get youre skills if you want them and the jade sea is very well made IMO.
To bad about the kaineng slums they really should have made them prettier, and for the locked gates it only forces you to play a few missions, what's the big deal?

Are into Guilds and PVP? You got to love it.
Leveling your character fast to level 20? Awesome.
Looking for lots of content and a grand PVE campaign? Hmm, not really.
Wanting to explore the great outbacks with simple path finding? Hugh! Horrible!

Factions so far is my favorite, overall, there are things i like better about prophicies and nightfall
Overall quicker to level and get on with the game, I simply find the leveling in Prophicies far too slow, I got half way through the game and was not at levl 20! Leveling in Nightfall is a tad slower too, and slightly more cmplicated by the necessity of Sunspear ranks and unlocking misions
the senerely is beautiful, and i loved the novelty of the city, going up and down levels running about all over the place and memorizing routes to get places (though i know many hate this lol) Nightfall for me isnt quite up to it, its either far too drab and arid for my taste or far too garish, though i love the DoA areas, Some areas of prohicies are gorgeous, especially pre searing, and Kryta with the shiverpeaks too, but i loved all of Factions
I liked the storyline, short sweet, simple, and tragic. Prophicies in comparison was too long and went all over the place, half the time i was wondering what was going on, and where we were headed. Nighfall for me was a great story, and wrapped up the factions one very nicely.
I hated timed missions, that made it far more stressful and still does, going for masters is simply a pain, i loved the ability to go afk in a prophicies mission for a few hours and get back to it, Nightfall has a nice combination but i dont like the need for certain heroes, or being unable to do some mission unless you unlock the heor at the end of the game, or get someone else with that hero.
However I love heroes, made the games far easier to play and to me just made factions even better to play, at least you have no requirements to use a certain one on it.
Introduction of titles was great too it gives me an aim to do once i finish a chapter. I loved the Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry, though they are very spartan now, and the intro of Alliance Battles, also Challenge missions can be fun, though i do prefer the Nightfall ones
By far the best thing for me though, being a cartographer, was the ease there was in exploring the maps, yes you had to unlock areas, but there seemed far more fluidity in going round the edges, and a lot less hidden areas that you needed explots to get too, and with explorable mission areas far easier to do on your own without slowwing down a mission

Factions is my personal favourite of the three chapters. Even though the storyline was short, it was surprisingly well thought out from start to finish (unlike Prophecies which is more about plotholes than actual plot, or Nightfall which starts off way too slow and only starts to come into itself about halfway through). I don't mind a game being shorter if it has a really engaging plot to follow.
Personette
I like factions just fine - in my opinion, the one advantage it has over the other two chapters is the characters have better face and hair options.
Hyper Cutter
Nightfall's better overall, but Factions characters look the best.
I hated Prophecies, personally. Getting your last 30 att points, for example, is a tremendous pain in the ass compared to a Canthan or Elonian. Then there's the pop-up mobs (KEKEKE SCARAB RUSH in the desert, for example), and so on...

On the whole, I am glad each campaign has a different flow and flavor.
There's something different that I like about each one:
Prophecies: Flexible progression paths, slower pacing scaled with the Missions and quests, an epic journey as part of the story
Factions: Fast pacing and leveling, early and fun attribute quests, easy to make gold, variety of very different backgrounds < the slums didn't last nearly as long if I just stayed with the Mission Path...and the slums were very effective as far as immersive settings go>
Nightfall: Heroes, "affordable" MAX value armor early on, split storyline based on your choice, Lightbringer skill level and its actual usefulness
