So, I was logging on to GW last night. Then, I was surprised by window
that popped and said. Blah blah blah, you are permenantly banned.

What??!?!? What the hell is this??

Immediately I sent a request for a support. Pleading to unlock my acct.
since I have not used any kind of bots or 3rd party programs.

And, today they sent me a email like this-

Hello,

Your account has been unblocked and you should be able to log in. If you
display bot like activities in the future, the account will be permanently closed.

Take care,
The Guild Wars Support Team

Does this happen alot?

I mean, it was 3X green drop weekend, so I was at Senji's corner farming
that green staff with my 55 like a madman. Like most of you have. Also,
many other places based on tips at Guru farming forum.

So, if I go to certain spots for green items, I am at a risk of permanent ban,
because I act like bots out there. How am I suppose to act like when Im
farming with 55?

Spam chat saying, Im not a bot, please don't ban me?? right before my run?

I swear Im not a bot!

People! You guys better watch out. Don't act like those evil bots!
Or, Anet will come and seek you, and ban your acct permanently without
warning.

Pfffft.

Well it sometimes is mistaken. Probally all bots are monks (running in southern shiverpeaks and farmin UW and in your case ghails staff. Usually they have all tattoo armor. If your constantly going outside to where a often arming place is and your a monk with tatoo armor i would of thought you were a bot too.....Perhaps get annthor armor

Actually you have to work pretty hard to behave like a bot. I mean you must have been wall hugging or routing through the exact same path right down to distance from walls each time. It's simple, vary your route, pause occasionally. You know do human things. I'm frankly amazed they got you for botlike activity. I mean you literally must have been hard on the same route time in and time out without any real variance from that route each time. That's kind of impressive in and of itself.

Its happened to me outside of Droknars. Before they made some bans and uplifted them after the parameters where checked correctly. And yes, if your a mindless farmer its very possible to use the exact same path, the exact same skills at the exact same time for endless hours.

Im glad they are working hard to keep bots out of the game. But really, if your farming like a robot, then you are risking setting of parameters that will get you banned..

Just don't use 55 to farm!

Check the farming forum, there are hundreds of other ways to farm greens. 55 is like the most bot abused build out there.

Also, don't use Stoneflesh Eles to farm. Because it's also frequently abused by bots and anyone that uses it is closely watched.

If you're lazy like me and click on the road signs or NPCs and hit space to move around, you'll take the same path every time. I tend to stop and admire scenery a lot, though.

Like in RuneScape, if you are chopping trees for a long time without speaking, you will be reported and most likely banned. It is rather dumb.

Also depending on, if you had a transaction with the staff to one of those people who sell them for money; they consider that a violation. I heard people complain at that idea, because how they are supposed to know what that other person does with that item.

Bullshit. If they were closely watched any moron could tell the difference between a bot and a real player.

BS x2. People should be not discriminated for any method they choose to farming, insofar that they are doing it themselves.

And another cry of BS by Anet by demanding you not use 'bot-like activities', when you are not botting. Either you are botting or you aren't, and Anet should offer you an apology and all of us an explanation of what this means.

Would LOVE to see Gaile respond to one of these unrightful ban threads which happen WAY too often. Of course they are too cowardly to admit that they use their own bots to catch what they think are bots, rather than having human eyes and mind use common sense. That or they'll just cower behind the tired argument of 'better err on the side of unjustly banning too many than letting some botters go free'.

edit: the reason I'm riled up over this is that I've seen the EXACT same thing happen several times before:
1. Person legitly farms during a freaking farming event weekend
2. Person gets banned
3. Person appeals and gets their account back with the same condition: that you don't display bot-like behavior
freakin unbelievable how cheap they can be (not only with their bots, but us debugging their skills for them then calling them 'events')

You know? As a game company I'd expect some kind of bot detection mechanism from them (not that I know anything about programming). I mean, seriously, accidental banning shouldn't have ever happened, or at least not so often. I don't think the BEST they can do would be "See if a player farm a lot, if so, he is a bot. Ban him".

If anything, it sends out bad messages to all the players.

So you wanna pony up the green to have administrative staff watching the game around the clock, I don't think you realize what you are asking for. Automated systems provide a way to attempt to control an overburden of users who intentionally exploit systems.

As to your second note, Ill say it again like i said it before. It is a privilege not a right to not only be given updates but be given the opportunity to test changes prior to their final release. You can't honestly stand in front of everyone and say you think it is so much easier to allow millions of users to provide feedback on a potential change, analysis of the information that was mined during the event and then apply that to another beta of the changes before considering making the patch final. Most companies won't even bother with the fan base, not only would you be lucky to get a patch, you would be lucky if the patch even fixes any of the major problems that really affect game play.

Could you please forward me the response that you received? I want to follow up on it. You see, I know the team, and I have a familiarity with the terms and writing form that they would use, and that simply does not read like something that our team would send. So if you can forward that to [email protected], I will investigate this matter and find out what happened with the account and with the response that you received.

Thank you.

Maybe they should start banning those pple who are Afking in grotto, since technically they are doing the same thing for hours hours and hours on end doing "nothing" repeatedly using up precious bandwidth.

Damn they must be botting! Ban them all NOW! ANET!

When i see threads of false bannings like these it reminds me of cases of payment for damages, but instead of apologies Anet support return replys with warning for players not to display bot like activity in the future. Is it so difficult just to pm a player to check before addng an account to the ban list? or is it because the hired observer has a monthly quota of accounts to ban?

You cannot possibly assess this as a "false banning." In fact, you cannot know that this person even plays Guild Wars. With the information that I have sought, I can verify the claims and get to the crux of the matter, to learn if someone was banned, for what he was banned, what he received from Support, and the rest of the story.

Right now, you're assessing this as a "false banning" but you really have nothing on which to base that accusation other than an anonymous post on a forum. I suggest it would be more appropriate, and more fair, to not besmirch anyone, and not malign the company, until the details are known.

Come to think of it. Gaile is right.

But you have to understand, last time someone said "I know you're really botting, that's why you got banned" or "You're lying", he/she got banned on this forum instead.

But WTH, to the OP, give all the requested info to Gaile so we know what this is all about.

Quit crying about it. This is nothing new.
Act like a bot, run the risk of being 'accidentally' banned. You got your account re instated within one day.
Sounds like the system is working just fine.

This thread is going a bit downhill too quickly. It was a mistake, it was corrected. Gaile personally responded in the thread asking for info. Send it.
