Found Mount Everest of Guild Wars^^

Ardruinna that map is awsome... but about that dark holw you guys we're talking about, its BS. I have protector of Elona (Cantha and Tyria too) and there is no dark "dot/hole" on my map.

Not sure why you assume it is photoshopped. I have the black dot on the map of my Ranger and it has been confirmed by Gaile to have been a small mistake. I also completed Nightfall on the second week of its release though and the black dot appeared.................

I beat NF with my warrior on the weekend of NF release, no black dot for me.
WarKaster
they fixed the black dot issue with on of the updates....so if you didn't beat nightfall within the first couple of weeks you don't get a black dot.

Hey i dont wanna destroy the fun but i dont think u can see mountans in the game from far away. I think its just something they tok in.

jryan
ok i checked this mountain out from the first city area and the fact that its big isnt so interesting. what i find interesting is its base... If u follow its base around the horizon its as if you are a tiny island on a land-locked sea. Also graphics wise the landmass has to be like relatively close because the veiwable landmass to the left has too much clarity to be far away. I agree that the mountain is some distance but not the landmass shore. Since the devs wouldnt put a real land mass on the map with out showing it on the big map its safe to say its just out side the elona map to keep with the tradition of not showing one chapters map on another chapters map. Maybe it is the next chapter
If u look harder u will notice other mountain peeks as well not just the big one. My impression of the larger mountain is that u can see the ridge line in front and a ridge line up high on the back which makes me feel like its a depression of some sort wether volcanic or not. the reason u probably dont see snow is a combination of shadow/(snow doent tend to cling to sheer mountain faces) or the volcano theory
The mountain is so detailed u can even see its snow line lol.
I heard that if u stair long enough u can just make out a dwarf with bonoculars

Just as a note the "eye of the north dot com" domain was registered using a service called "Dotster". And if you look at the registrar that guildwars.com uses they are quite different. Why would they use a different registrar.
Not to mention it would have been "guildwarseyeofthenorth.com" as thats the same format as the other chapters and I see no reason why they would change it.
I am however curious on what the big mountain is. Even if it is a skybox it seems a bit to prevalent, in all texture settings, to be just that. (If you turn down your textures does it disappear?)

*Insert pic from this thread beacause its 11:00pm and im tired* If it was a mountain there would be snow on the side i circled, dont you think? I'll get rid of this post if you don't want me doing this. |

Hmm interesting thread here. Heres a few things I've looked at after reading:
The mountain is distinctly West, and slightly north of Elona, and from several maps it is very possible that a frozen area could stretch around in the drawn map posted earlier, and connect with the Shiverpeaks to the east. This would easily tie in with the Norn characters from GWEN. Keep in mind there were various quotes to what "lie across the sea to the west" and this could very well be it. Also remember that GWEN isn't JUST about the north, but about the catacombs that stretch all over the world of tyria, and not just the continent of tyria(same name). And with the picture above, it could simply be because the sun is to the south. The darker side would be harder to see the snow, but it is still there, you can see the texture vaguely. Just like the moon!
BTW, the black dot thing IS real, just beat Nightfall and zoom out on the full map while in elona. Its there. It looks like one of the designers put black, soft pixel brush spot on the map and forgot to clean it up. Probably just a design mistake, but that would've been easily fixed in an update. I seriously doubt it means anything though.

Chronos the Defiler
may be speculation to me...but even if all in all its just a Skybox...i highly doubt it was a merely computer generated Skyboz...the designer KNEW they put it there, and must have made it to begin with. So why would they do that just to bring up controversy?
I am gonna run around some of the continents to see if there would be any tie-ins.

I think i may have found somthing. I did some in and out of game reserch and this was the best thing I can find. This is a quote form Prince Menthu the Wise,
"My library is a wonder of the world, young one. Ancient scrolls, text from Tyria, ancient Orr, Istan and Kourna, and all the strange places throughout the world can be found within its walls. I even have stone tablets that were found on an island far off the coast... an island that mysteriously disappeared thereafter. Ha! I see I have your attention. Yes, my library is magnificent. I encourage you to come and see for yourself."
perhaps this is what we see?

Hmm... I wonder if it is considered SPOILER to talk about something that is in one of the video interviews.

The guy who's talking mentions Orr rising out of the sea and becoming a floating land, due to... I don't remember why, but it's a big, floating place. And my connection here isn't good enough to load the videos again within an hour to find out what the reason for its floating state was.
Could it be Orr?

So just to recap, we know that it can be seen from Fanur facing northeast, and from jahai bluffs in the same direction. where are the other known locations?
also, can we verify if that truly in the mountaion in nightfallen jahhi? i sapose you could see it like a big purple (nightfallen) mountian, but it also looks like clouds

For Sprite, he was referring to the Tarnished Coast. Well should have been. Gaile had to post corrections. (Orr isn't in GW:EN)

The istani loading screen also shows the mountains on the background. This has probaly been mentioned before.

while exploring in Eye of the north i found this by the boss avarr the fallen in jaga moraine (first pic)and by looking at the eye of the north map i have concluded it is most likely in the area i have boxed in the 2nd pic
Blue man
that seems like the right mountain in your pic, but it cant be the same mountain viewed from the other areas, it is much too small, it seems to appear smaller from where you are then from elona =)
Kotetsu Rain
Anyone else think that we might be able to travel to this mountain in GW2? I remember people saying that it might be used to imprison a creature of some sort OR it's just a hangout for something else. For one of those sleeping ancient dragons this looks like a perfect place to me.

I keep seeing mention to a "black dot" that shows once you beat the campaign....I beat it and I don't have a black dot show up at all...
Anyways...I think the mountain was just anet being lazy and using it as a skin for a cloud, like how they use the same skin/map for many things in EN, why wouldnt they in NF a bit?

It's just a generic skybox that the map designers use in all of their maps related to the same area. There aren't any important, looming features in the background, aside from 2D objects that can be hovered over the horizonline of the skybox, if needed. This same skybox is reused several times on a variety of maps in Factions. In some cases the mountain is never visible because of the arrangement of the map environment. Only in a few cases is the player avatar ever in a position to see the skybox's details at that angle. I imagine whoever made the skybox's texture simply transposed the image of a mountain into the texture because it's an, overall, featureless texture. It's just a generic "there's stuff in the distance" item. There are numerous other examples - that aren't quite as interesting - in other GW skybox textures.
No Utopia where the gods gather. It's just a texture.

Woohoo, thread necromancy.
On a sidenote, yeah, it's just random skybox features.
It's quite possible ANet ripped it from a mountain in real life.
Remember the sky from DOOM?

Mod Edit: I removed the second finding after splitting and merging the thread into two pre-existing topics.
Recently i found two things that connect to things found by many players a long time ago.
First off as many remember in the Nightfall campaign after exiting from Kodonur Cross roads into Jahai Bluffs and walking about 5 feet and looking up one could see what appears to be a megalithic mountain.
Most people i know though of it as some EOTN tease but after playing EOTN for some time i realized i couldn't see it. Well Recently i was doing some Vqing in Jaga Moraine and found it.
While im sure im not the first to find it i don't remember seeing a thread about it so i decided to put it here as a nice note.

i would have agreed with you on that but the thing it its ONLY in 3 locations the two i posted and one found When looking out over the water in Fahranur, The First City. also when comparing it to a map of EOTN
We can see that if we are to look in a almost western direction as i am facing in my first posts picture we can see a area of what appear to be high mountain like area im just saying that it might be the like super high peak in the shiverpeaks.

The background mountain can be seen in Fahranur. It was discussed before - and was used as an attempt to determine how far Elona was from the Shiverpeaks (as that is the only mountain range known to be in that general direction).
here is the thread, the images seemed to have been removed.
Please use search and if you have small topics, put them in the random topic and introductions sticky - which is where I'm moving this thread right now until I can accurately split this thread into two - and put them in their accurate threads (as both topics have pre-existing threads).
Edit: Thread split and merged.

My Apology but i was about to add a very long post containing the basic summed up versions of my own recent find and the finds of Gw Guru about the hall of judgment -mursaat connection. I was on a picture hunt in GW which is why i hadn't added to it as soon as i wanted to.
The Only Warrior
in reference from the view from jahai, this is most defiantly a basic sky texture. proof is in Sunward Marches as well as the Sulfurous Wastes (the points closest to this "mountain"), on a side note, the view in this direction (from sulfurous wastes outside gate of desolation) has mountains shaped of boobs, enjoy looking for that one.
