Is there a way to turn a pet you have acquired for a hero (as a ranger primary or 2nd) in to a tamer so you can tame a diff one? I don't think there is...I think that option is only available for your chr.
Also, is there any way to name a heros pet?

Nope. As of yet, there hasn't been a way implemented to do either.
