Hi all, recently got into Guild Wars (Nightfall only atm) after years of playing Everquest and have reached a point where I am stuck, I have been clearing some undead and have reached this rock thing called Apocrypha but my party is always getting wiped, I primarily play solo (with heroes I hasten to add) and nothing I do seems to affect him, is it a case of needing to level up (R/Mo lvl 10 atm) or are my tactics just rubbish
Really enjoying this game but running out of quest to do atm and I really enjoy them.
TIA for any advice
Apologies, just realised I posted in wrong forum , will repost in correct one

well, since this is a nightfallhelp request you shouldn't post it here! you should post it in Elonian explorers league, not tyrian explorers league, wich is related to prophecies only.
Anyway, I always thought the apocrypha preety easy. I've done her when i was lvl 8 with help from a lvl 11 friend.
Now I'm lvl 20 and if by chance your gaming calendar mtches mine I can pss you the mission in no time. Or you can ask other lvl 20 players that appear in game to help you.

Well, You say you have Nightfall only.
Chances are your Heros don't have many skills unlocked at this point, and thus you are limited in what tactics you can really do with them.
IIRC you have Dunkoro, Koss, and Melonni at that point in the game. Try going at the mission with the Henchmen instead, if you cannot/do not want to find a group. They will likely be a bit more competant than your heros at that point till you get some skills unlocked for all the classes. I can't remember Dunkoro's starting skill set, but I remember thinking it was crapola.
Cant recall who all is available, but Sogolon (motivation henchman) and Khim (healer henchman) should keep you healed nicely. Just bring Koss or Melonni with them and just slowly chip away at him

He'll have to have Melonni, she's required for the mission.

The Apocrypha should be pretty easy - most likely there is a build issue. Not flaming or anything. I started with Prophecies, it allows a much shallower learning curve than Nightfall. I do not know how well I would have done starting in one of the other games. Especially now that some of the balance
has to come from those of us with tons of skills unlocked and thousands of hours in game.
Anyway, post your build. Tell us you primary class and secondary class, your attribute point spread, and your skills. If this is anywhere decent your tactics shouldn't matter that much yet - a little while longer before the whole skill thing really kicks in (and it definitely does). Right now everything should just die.
For example:
I'm a Dervish/Warrior
I have 15 in scythe mastery, 11 earth prayers, and 11 mysticism. Normally for telling others their build you would include how these numbers happen (such as the 15 is from a superior scythe and a head piece and would be written as 15 (11-3-1) however, we do not really need to know it as we are not trying to duplicate your build).
My skills are: Reapers Sweep[e], Victorious Sweep, Wild Blow, Heart of Fury, Armor of Sanctity, Mystic Regeneration, Conviction, Sunspear Rebirth Signet.
Most likely you will not have an elite (what the [e] means).
After that, we may need to see what heroes you are using and their build - for example Armor of Sanctity is pretty much worthless in my build above. It reduces damage from foes that are suffering from conditions and I apply no conditions (well, except for a few seconds when Heart of Fury ends) - however this is a build for a team with a Searing Flames ele and a "They're on fire" paragon - lots of burning and mobs with conditions so it makes sense. But, at this point, you should be able to go through the Apocrypha if you have a decent build.
And, lastly, this is the internet be prepared for some flaming. I use Reaper's Sweep as my elite, many here tell me I am an idiot for using it. However, for my play style it does consistently more damage over time than their advice. There will be reasonable people respond and some good advice come out of it.
In my experience GW took a little different way of thinking about builds and such. Once you get on the right track all will be well. More than likely I would guess you are spreading out too thin - at the least it was what I tried to do at first. Too many options and it is not obvious why it will not work at first.

The only problem I had with the large blue rock is when his in dervish mode. He deals double damage and hits all adjacent foes with his sythe. This can be quite devastating for low level characters. Easiest way to counter is to get vs phyical insignias or spread out your heroes so he'll only hit on at a time. That way your monk has time to concentrate on one person at a time.
There's nothing extremely special about the mesmer or paragon form so I think you can go from there if so requires.

3 damage dealers and a monk...
kill the scythes around the boss... and concentrate on the boss... when you engage him he will Carve or something and won't do a thing... you should be able to take a third off of him by then...
his clumsiness must throw a big punch... but your monk is good... kill him around two thirds... and when he carves again... kill him... simple as that...

When I used my paragon it was quite easy. If you can keep him burning you should do pretty well.

I actually understand what he's going through with this. I have the other 2 chapters and unlocked skills and all but I was playing with my friend at the time. Both of us were D/Mos and Melonni was required and it was almost impossible for us to complete, we tried Kihm and then Dunkoro but to no avail. Mission was cake until the Apocrypha. In the end we had to call in a lvl 20 friend to help us get it. I really dislike required heroes for quests/missions because of this reason. If we didn't have to take Melonni we could have put together a better, more able group.

You are talking about the mission from johkanur diggings right?

I thought that it was pretty easy my second time through.
The first time through I was killed kind of fast because I had everyone right in front of him attacking, but when I spread my party out, it seemed to make a difference. If you still need help with it, give me a PM.

lol when I fought him I just kept spamming Flare + Meteor and it eventually died =P
I had Koss/Melonni/Dunkoro with me...I had koss/melonni hack away while my E/Me spammed away and Dunkoro had our backs
Try spamming your powershot or something lol

If you are a ranger you should find it pretty easy, Either trap and lure or interupt him. Give your monk hero some decent healing spells and get Koss to tank. Give Melonni avatar of dwayna and some decent damage doing skills and you should be fine.
