you can reach ToA as soon as you reach LA. you have no primary missions that send you there though. just one of those place you are supposed to come across while questing and wandering around, just like the war camp and SF, or the citadel.

while it does contain a bit of content, none of it is mandatory to complete the game (same as SF and the citadel). its extra features that arent actually part of the storyline. its kinda like bonus material that you have to find on your own (similar to bonus dungeons or levels in your typical FF-esque games). unless you know where to look or stumble across it, you wont find it. this gives incentive to continue to explore and play the game even after you have completed the main storyline.

Kinda embarrased to admit it, but wth. I had 2 characters thru Prophecies before I 'discovered' ToA. So no, it is not a big part of the game. In fact there is no story related missions, or quests . Te only thing there is the entrance to the UW, or the FoW, and being as niether area is available to un ascended 'toons. Why should they mention it, wheres your sense of adventure.

Do the quests in the game and you will be amazed at what you find.

I think it's ridiculous that I have to play the game in order to experience the content!

Err, it's highly, unlogical!

Seriously, way too many people rush through the game, be thankful there is some content that isn't directly linked to the linear story. It's nice not to have to be spoonfed everything, especially for the explorers out there.

Well, Brother Bishan in LA gives a a clue to its existence in his monologue. Then The Lost Princess quest sends you there.

But it is up to you to figure out what is going on there.

Damn, you beat me to it, however, Fisherman's haven I never found until 9 months after release... and i bought Bone Minions from Camp Rankor, not happy to have found a mission with it there... GRRR!

Same with Maguuma Stade, i didn't find that until a month or so after that when a friend ran me round the jungle and got himself lost too

Well if you are checking on wiki then there are maps there.
Check and see what towns you donot have then go there.
I donot see what the big deal is.

Just another whining post, god ....

I didn't explore the game or pay attention to clues but I think its unfair that I missed something.

Yeah buddy, go tell it to the wind.

ToA only has the one quest that takes you there, but only from a place where you aren't led to through any quest or mission (Fisherman's Haven)

Citadel is access through a quest (DDF), Marhan's Grotto and Maguuma Stade are also not led to through any quests or missions.

Although I just remembered that most that do the Galrath mission stop off at ToA as they can then bolster up to 8 players in the team instead of 6 as its the ONLY outpost before Droks that allows 8 players... So my advice? Do the galrath mission and form a PuG (did i just say join a PuG???)

as others here have said both the lost princess and villany of galrath lead you towards the temple of ages...
you get villany of galrath in lions arch, not a problem while you get the lost princess in fisherman's haven which is an outpost you dont usually come by unless you know about it from wiki or friends...
oh and you guys forgot another useless outpost in the middle of nowhere, the ice tooth cave near the iron horse mine in northern shiverpeaks

Ya, i never found toa for a while until i stated hearing about the fow and the uw, and seeing so many people with intresting looking armur. then i finnaly looked around here, and found the whereabouts of this mysterious place. its nice in factions, because you have to stop at zin ku during the storyline. I also found grenths footprint when trying to make my way to granite cidadel on the ddf quest. Finnaly when i statred doing droks runs with my war, i kept hearing about warcamp when in rancor, and i finnaly got there. Maguuma stade and ice tooth were found by me during my random exploring runs. really, for a new player you probably wont hear about these places for a while. They should put a quest or something that leads to these places, accesable from a prominent town like la or hod. really, i never found out about fishermans haven for a while either.
