In the past there have been a lot of threads that ask for Anet to raise the level cap past 20, and most of them end in either a flame war, or one sided opinions in which the reply poster only points out the negative sides to raising the level cap or the thread creator is to vague . These threads are usually deleted and brought up once again at later dates, being as simple as “raise the level cap”
Being such a common issue brought up on guild wars I thought it would be a good idea collecting people’s opinions about this.
Hopefully people can point out positive points, and negative points to raising the level cap for both PVP and PVE or just PVE.
I think it would make the most sense if the cap was just raised for PVE only which I will talk about later after I get feedback.
I will be adding to these as more opinions and ideas become available.
Reasons against raising the level cap.
Many players are strongly against higher level caps, as it would Bring unfairness and also go against Guild Wars whole skill over time approach.
It would take time and effort for Anet to incorporate a higher level cap into the game.
Encourages Elitists, Who would think they were more skillful then other players and reject them from playing in there groups.
The entire GW environment is based on lvl 20 cap.
Changing this would make a huge imbalance in the game.
In response to reasons against
These are all good points but I think that guild wars already breaks its whole skill over time theory with the light bringer title, which awards players with killing certain enemies over and over and awarding them with a title that does 5 percent more damage which stacks for each new rank achieved.
This seems less fun and more “grindtastic” then leveling up your character which would happen naturally as you progress through the game.
At least when you level up you actually have to think about putting points into an attribute therefore there is actually some skill involved.
Yes its true that if the cap was raised there would be an inbalance in the guild war world, but this is something they would obviously have to work on in future chapters, it might even be a excuse to add content to past chapters to make them more challenging.
Reasons for raising the level cap.
More character development, which would also add more depth to the development of new builds by helping to add more possibilities because of the larger amount of attribute points to allocate.
More people would Buy guild wars, due to the fact they did not play the game in the first place due to level restrictions.
In response to reasons for level cap happening.

I hope to add more soon, when the information becomes available and I have more time.

I really couldn't care what the level cap was/is as long as it's attainable without having lots of boring grind. That said, I don't think it should be changed now, without a lot of careful thought.
Also, haven't ANet said they won't be changing it?

That's why most people, including me, are against it.

Most people on guild war guru are against it but if you go to alot of other forums you will find that the level cap actually wards off alot of players,
Im still 2 ways about it, I honestly think that if they raised the cap maybe in future chapters more people would buy it.
