Yes I'd pay $30 to change character appearance and name

I know it's been done to death with the 'why can't we do (the above)' but I don't know if anyone's logged how keen some people are to spend money to make this happen, and enough money that it would discourage the people looking to do it for nefarious reasons.

Why would I pay so much? The name of my character was a joke, and he was the first I created, I want to improve both as I play him all the time, and am exploring the complete game with him all the time, he's really my only character I care about the reputation of, and so incredibly valuable to me. I spend hundreds and hundreds of hours and still have so much more to do with him, over future updates etc. I'd like just once to change him for the future.

Anyway, delete thread as you see fit, hopefully someone at ANET will consider how lucrative this could be, and how important it is I get that it shouldn't be exploited, hence my willingness to pay some decent cash to do it.

I wouldn't pay extra money for the ability to change a character name, but I do agree that it should be made possible, but only in ways to prevent spammers/bots/jerks, etc. from abusing it. Maybe you get the chance to change your character's name once every 6 months or something? That would entail requiring a character stick around for a while, which means it would most likely be a character that a person feels passionate about (ie. less of a chance this would be used on a "throwaway" character from an abuser).

Changing hairstyle and hair color, etc, would be cool, and I wish there was a way to change that on characters in town. For example, I'd like to take my Tyrian characters over to Elona and get an Elonian hairstyle, and vice versa. That would be neat.

Along those lines, ANet could make some money with this.

Changes could include, face, body size, hair and name.

If they stick with their $9.99 pricing, they'd make a mint.

that's RIDICULOUS! spending money on char's appearence.. it should be FREE at some stylist npc or something. i mean if anet would charge money for this i'd rather pay 30$ on ebay, buy gold and just make a new char whith name/appearance i wanted.

Welcome back to Guild Wars Guru Safari.

Today we've found a rare and frightening creature; the Human.
The Human has the capability to think, unlike many other creatures found roaming these wild lands.
This Human has decided to effectivley use his resources, unlike other which can be classified in the "lower mental power" class. These lower classes like to trick people in to believing they are human, but it is rather obvious once you have seen their ways, that they are not, infact, Human.

Who knows what we'll find next week on-

I personally would not pay to change my characters appearance. Hell, I probably would not change it if it were a free option. I like continuity. I like to see my ele's same smiling face when I play her, or my necro's cold, dark stare. I feel "connected" to them in some way. If I went about changing their faces, names, and size all the time I would loose that sense of connection.

Changing the characters name....well personally would not do it, but if you made a name that is embarassing or a misspelling or something, maybe you could pay to change that.

you shouldnt be able to change your characters name because its like your own name--you were born with it and you have to keep it.

they should definatley add an NPC stylist to change your characters hair if you want for something like 5-10k

Ummm... Huh? Perhaps this is the case where you live, but where I live it is a relatively simple matter, albeit a slightly expensive one, to change one's name.

As to the topic at hand... US$30? Nah. US$5 or so, perhaps, but thirty bucks seems a bit out there.

Nice, i would really really pay $30 just to change my ele's appearances!! I hate all elonian eles, so uncreative, so ugly, so so so you know, tyrian eles are the best! I would really pay $30 US dollars just change it. But i dont think this will happen. =( Because i once heard that once you confirm something, it cannot be changed.

I wouldn't pay $30 to change my looks, let alone my toon. More thought should've gone into looks in the creation stage, instead of rushing through it. I love the way all mine look and wouldn't change a thing.

Excellent idea for the online store to perhaps keep some residual income for ANet. I doubt I would do it on looks but wouldn't mind changing my warriors name. As far as the cost, well that would depend on how much actual manpower would be needed to code the changes imo.
Why not is my question? If it can produce a profitable income stream then I don't see how it can hurt.
To those who don't want the feature...why dog it because someone else does? Because you don't like swimming your town should not have a swimming pool? Because you don't like using the bus system your city should not have public transportation? Because you like CD's only Vinyl shops shouldn't exist? Of course not, to each his/her own. Some want these things, some don't.
If I had one request it would be to unlock teh high end armors for PvP characters(ie my 15k war, monk, and fow necro) when I buy them for my PvEs. That is something I would be willing to pay for just to add it in. Even if I still had to get them, not buy them with gold or faction.

I completely agree on both counts. Maybe not make it every six months, but some shorter length of time or maybe there could be a $5 or $10 charge to change a character's name.

But I totally think--as I've seen a lot of other people post here too--that an appearance-changing NPC would be great. Like a stylist or something--pay gold and get a hairstyle of the country and customize makeup too.

I think a name change is out of the question. Though I could see a hair stylist and other appearance changes. I also doubt that proportions on your character would be up for change. Honestly a hairstylist would be enough to keep me happy, even if I had to pay 5-10k per alteration.

I would never pay $30 for ascetics. I might pay for aesthetics though. I agree with some prior posters that 10 bucks is the right price point. I think that would still be too high if it was a one-shot deal, but at the same time I wouldn't want certain people able to change their names every 2 hours. Maybe it could be a kit, 10 bucks for 5 uses of an "Identity Changer" kit.

If you like to play GW you should WANT TO HELP ANET ADD REVENUE, because that's the only reason this game exists. Especially something like this or the extra character slot that is completely unnecessary and opting to not take part does not handicap your characters (as does not having one of the chapters).

Oh Noes! The 'burbs!

I would love to change my ele's appearance. I'd like to change her hair color, but it's mostly the face I don't like anymore, and that's Anet's fault. They changed it. It was fine before.

Maybe to fix this with every new chapter you link, you should get a chance to use the styles...and when making a chara I think you should be able to use ANY of the style/faces available for the games you have linked.

Rofl. The only one concerned about the looks (face/hair) is usually the owner.
Except that pirate warrior and some odd looking toons I really dont look at anything.

Anyway, the body is the same for all toons, and the face is so hard to observe, no1 really looks at ur toons face

I think Anet should add custom bodies: like big boobs, small boobs, etc

Yeah, I agree about that. I hardly ever look at another character closely, except if I want to see thier armor.

Hairstylists etc are fine, but name changing, if it's implimented, should be restricted or have an extremely high cost. Names are the only thing that identify you in GW, so it should be very hard to change.

i wouldn't pay real $$$ to change my name/appearance, but i'd be happy to spend in-game gold on it. the dumbstuck, botox-esque look of perpetual surprise on my ele's face is starting to bug me and my warrior looks stoned.

an NPC would be nice, or just add an NPC to the next dragon festival/wintersday/halloween/whatever event so its a "special thing" you can't do all the time. maybe add a quest that gives a reward (ala amulet of the mists) that allows you to do it only once per character.

The thing is that this would actually not require all that much time to code as the name change system is already there: when an "inappropriate name" is reported, Anet has a system that allows the person to change their character's name to something non offensive.

I think that the only reason that Anet is not implementing it is that it would create a lot of controversy. If they charge real money for it, people will complain that it is unfair and that they should be allowed to change their name because they bought the game already. However, if the cost is in in-game gold, if it is too expensive then ordinary players will complain that they are unable to afford it. If it is too cheap, then scammers will be able to abuse the system by simply switching names to avoid getting caught.

In my opinion, the only option would be to have a time limit on the name changing (for example, only once every 2 weeks/1 month/whatever), put a moderate price on changing it (around 5k-10k so that almost anyone could afford it) and ensure that if a name is changed, it is still linked to the character that had it before for at least 24 hours so that scammers could not abuse this privilege.

As for hairdressers... I do not see any problem for having this for a small sum in-game. After all, it would be a great gold sink, would not offer any advantage to players and would just make people happy overall.

I had the same problem as you, I had a monk that i love but wanted to get the survivor title on him. So i deleted him, my main character, with FoW armor even. In a matter of weeks i had the same character back with the same armor and the Survivor title. thats the beauty of GW, nothing takes more than a few weeks to recreate unless you have several more advanced titles on a single character. I suggest you take this route and save your $$
