Just curious is anyone here knows where the startup file for windows is in the registry. It lists all the exe's that are supposed to be run when windows boots up. I need to go through and clear out some trash programs gettin in the way of my performance. Shutting them off is manually upon every reboot is annoying.
Thx!

CCleaner will not help with unwanted but valid startups.
Try the wonderful little tool called "Autoruns" from SysInternals. There isn't a single "startup file" for windows -- the start up applications are scattered all over the registry. This tool shows every start up application, wherever they are.
The tool can be found from sysinternals.com (don't be surprised by the redirect to microsoft.com -- the company has been bought by MS.)

Oh yes, I remember now that you mentioned it. My bad.
Does it list as many locations as does AutoRuns? You can even disable BHOs and drivers with that gem.

Never the less, unless it's malware, they're all still there. "Trash programs", as the OP put it, are application and peripheral component "managers" and other such junk, and they're all easily found and disabled in msconfig. There is no reason to make things harder than they need to be.
