KING STONEY'S JOUST

King Stoney's guild coffers have become full with the abundance of gold only due to the diligent work of his Lords, and has ordered his guild treasurer, (Lord Killroid) to host a Joust in his honor. During this joist, a winner will be decided. That winner and those who place high among men will be awarded a mighty sum of gold including bounties of rare weapons as well. The Tournament will begin on the morning of the 25th of Febuary. Check the rules and rewards for exact times.

Because vDv Guild is so wealthy in tradition and honor, it will allow this year a open entry, no fee charged, to any knight who wishes to represent its respective guild in battle. For more information on this contest as well as the rules and awards, click here. Also feel free to log on to our ventrilo server and speak to any of our barons or Lords and they will answer any questions you have about the contest of Knights.

The rules as stated are very simple. You may use any character with any skill set. You can be a mesmer or an ele so long as you weild a melee weapon. NO OFF HANDS> other than a shield. No weapons swapping mid match. Thats what makes it interesting. We will have refs in each match. They will be hosted via our guild hall. The tournament is capped at 150 people. It would be a good idea to register with the site as well so that you may recieve emails on the Joust schedule and times.
The exact time that this will begin on the 25th will be determined by total number of entrants. We will post the exact start time and scheduled matches in a tournament grid a week before the Joust begins..

Just a few questions since it wasn't clearly stated in the rules:

Can you bring a caster using only spells and enchantments but carrying a sword and sheild and makes attacks in melee? (With something like Illusionary Weaponry)

Also what constitute a melee joust? Could I make one melee attack and apply the the rest of the damage via spells? If not, would casting spells in melee range count?

As you can see, my primary characters, (E, Me, R), that I play are not melee, just seeing if there's a way around it. :P

Yes, Yes and yes.. You can have ranged spells..... you can be a full spell caster, but you cannot weild any weapon other than a hammer, sword, axe, shield, daggers or scythe. You have to have one of those equipped. You cannot come in to battle with anything other. Illusionary weapon is going to be common place and very popular in this type contest. You will be surprised however at what type builds actually do the best in a 1v1 situation like that.

One more question:

Does your primary prof HAS to be melee? I mean if you'd be able to take mesmer as primary you can hardly call this a melee competition anymore.

Any profession, as long as you have a melee weapon.

Well, you will see very quickly that mesmers wont last long in the joust. They will do well dont get me wrong. There will be lots of people using big degen and illusionary wpn.. But they will eventually run up against some everlast warriors or judgment mesmers.. It wont be a mesmer fest like he is thinking.. Youll see some odd builds do very well. But i do hope that all those who really wish to see the best solo builds in action, come and participate. Remember, we are capped at 150 people, so please do make an effort to go ahead and register. Gl guys......

no if you think about it, a sin with dual shadow forms can just run up and gank the hell out of a mesmer and necro.

Simply "outlasting" your foe will cause you to lose. You will need to smite him down, "kill him" before the ten minutes is up, or else you will be headed to a sudden death round. You will only have five minutes in the second round to kill your foe. Ten minute tactics and five minute tactics differ greatly.. The ten minute build would need to contain a bit more self heal and escape, whilst the five minute build would most certainly require A LOT of firepower. Thats what seperates this Joust from a newbish paper rock scissors 1v1.. You actually employ strategy of a solo build, rather than survivability being foremost.... Gl gentlemen

Actually, I was thinking that a necro might win this. N/E with Blinding Flash to take care of melees, Plague Touch and stuff to rid himself of conditions, Chillblains to get rid of the undoubted Shadow Form/Spellbreaker useage... and of course, Signet Of Agony combined with a ton of mezzy hexes and spiking skills. Or a solo bomber. That'd be amusing.

Technically, an assassin should win this hands down. A/E with Temple Strike, knockdowns, expose defenses, and a shadow step to allow him to fly towards his foe before he can get a blinding flash or something off. Or maybe an E/D invinci ele with Stoneflesh Aura and wards.

it says that theres a time limit to the matches so you cant hold them off forever, and if u tie the next match your both losers lol..harsh..and vod is 20 mins

Contests like this never favor those with a valid build. Although it's creative, it's often pure luck as a specific build owns 90% of the other builds, then gets tossed out by another one. Pure luck.

I just registered with this site 2 days ago to spread news of the Joust. I have also posted the same message across multiple fansites to include the entire guild wars community. Hopefully, there will be some special guest that attend the event as well. Screen shots will be taken, so make sure you are wearing your finest armor!.. You might end up on www.guildwars.com

As for this competition being pure luck, i would agree that there is some bit of luck to winning anytime you are pitted against random players with different professions and skills. I cannot argue that point. But i will tell you with certainty that no one build will dominate 90% of the field. Because there are energy restrictions, (minus a ele with high energy storage) due to the forced wielding of melee' only weapons, spell casting will be affected slightly. There is also a time limit and a "forced kill" which persuades each players build to be highly offensive. Instead of survivability it would be wise to look at how fast you can dish out damage before the other guy.

There were 30 registered this morning, and i see about ten more that arent posted yet. We have recieved about ten entrants a day. It should hit the 150 mark fairly easy after the second round of advertising hits.

Along with the cash rewards and weapon that are being given out, we will send a very nice editorial with screenies included to the elite fansites and Anet. If they would be so kind as to post the results of my Joust, they would have the appreciation of this King.
