This is in my opinion the best Restoration Build and Support Build for the Rit. I use it in pvp all the time and i'm racking up Glad points from it. I'm pretty sure it would work in PvP too.

Weapon of Warding
Mend Body and Soul
Spirit Life
(optional)

Superior Spawning Magic
Superior Vigor
(optional)

Insignias:
Energy Insignia's is most effecient.
Weapons:
You can use any but I usually use a +20 energy weapon.
Tatics:
When you start you match or are about to engage in battle use Boon of Creation for add health and energy managment. The when your group starts fighting use Weapon of Warding and then use Recouperation, Life, and Preservation. You use Weapon of Warding if you are targeted with a bow interupt. Then stay in your spirits area. If your party starts moving away set up spirits somewhere else. Now, stay near spirits and use Spirit Life whenever your allies are losing health. This is your main heal because it heals for 188 health. Your Mend Body and Soul when your allies are suffering from a condition and/or aslo have a substantial amount of life gone. Just keep spamming those two spells BUT never use Spirit Life if you are low on health and are not near any spirits because YOU WILL DIE BECAUSE YOU SACRIFICE HEALTH. If you are low on energy just use Preservation and Life and when you have enough energy you Recouperation.
The Best (in my opinion) Restoration Build

Boon + Recuperation isnt very good energy management >.> Preservation is, but there are better elites in restoration... seriously.
And you really dont need the spawning power superior rune, a minor is good enough if you insist on Boon of Creation.
For energy management, bring an ash spell... GwT or Protective was Kaolei both rock, and then soothing memories, those are pretty standard.
Weapon of Warding rocks, and bringing Wielder's Boon would make it even better.
Best restoration build? I really like Spirit Light Weapon... and Weapon of Remedy + Vengeful is proven to be devastating. But its your opinion.

For PvP? May I suggest:
Rt/Mo
Vengeful Weapon
Reversal of Damage
Weapon of Remedy {e}
Mend Body and Soul
Recovery
(optional; I normally use Remove Hex)
Generous was Tsungrai
Resurrection Signet
12+1+3 Restoration
12 Smiting
Alternative would be to substitute Vengeful was Khanhei for Weapon of Remedy.
Don't spam like a crazy fool or you'll be completely out of energy. Make sure that you're using the Weapon Spells primarily on casters in the back line who are being targetted by the melee on the other team.
Why do I like this particular build? Well, a few reasons. One, in terms of healing it's much less suceptible for inturruptions (the bane of any healer), it's faster, and it adds DPS to the team's output. There have been MANY times where I'll kill a Warrior or Assassin simply by chilling out and healing myself (however, I try to kite as much as possible, because it's more energy-efficient).
Those long, expensive spirits are useless when they're inturrupted. Any Ranger or Mesmer worth their salt will first target the Ritualist to see what they're up to. Also, I would seriously include a cover Enchantment, because if Boon of Creation is stripped, you're up the creek without a paddle. Straight healing with fast spells (especially weapon spells) is safer, and you'll be more likely to get your heals off.
Recovery and Mend Body and Soul are there together for a couple reasons. Every now and then you'll come across those crummy Degen peoples that exist basically to ruin your day. If you manage to get Recovery up, you can both make those conditions end faster, and take them off with MBaS. It's also a pretty powerful heal on its own right, so if someone's really getting beat on (or cast on, because the weapon spells are useless without Big Dumb Meleers), you can supplement the weapon spells with some direct healing. I don't like Spirit Light just 'cause it doesn't fit with my build. Recovery isn't up 24/7 with me, it's situational but very, very useful.
I used to run Preservation, but I find it's pretty limited in use. For one, the "In The Area" is actually a pretty narrow range (about half your Aggro Circle). I also think that for an elite, 122 health every 4 seconds ain't all it's cracked up to be. Granted, it's a free heal to the back row, but as was said before, there are many other Elites in the Restoration tree that are, in my opinion, better. The limited range means that those pesky melee folks on your team will probably not be in range for the heal 90% of the time.
Another good thing about the build I mentioned is that you only really need one Superior Rune (Restoration) if that; it's not going to suck you of life. People always call Ritualists and Monks primary; you're going to need all the health you can get. Boon's heal isn't good enough for spawning spirits....you're a sitting duck for everyone, and some-odd 50 health isn't going to make up for what they can do to you.
To each his own, though. If you're comfortable and efficient playing that way, by all means, go for it These are merely my own thoughts, haha!

Preservation pretty much sucks when its not supporting the party as part of a larger set of spirits. And in Pve , Cycling Life Via Reclaim is still king in my opinion

I came up with an awesome Restoration build the other day...lots of party-heals...
[skill]Spirit Channeling[/skill][skill]Protective was Kaolai[/skill][skill]Spirit Light[/skill][skill]Soothing Memories[/skill][skill]Mend Body and Soul[/skill][skill]Life[/skill][skill]Feast of Souls[/skill][skill]Flesh of my Flesh[/skill]
If you cast Protective was Kaolai and Life as soon as you start the battle you can then just stand by the spirit and heal using Spirit Light (for big heals), Soothing Memories (use as a cheap heal since you're holding an item), Mend Body and Soul (to remove conditions). If the party gets in dia trouble you can destroy Life with Feast of Souls, or drop Protective was Kaolai.
I LOVE this change to Protective was Kaolai. It's an awesome party heal but don't be put off by it's recharge...It's there so you can precast it and drop it when required... Spirit Channeling is in there as e-management...Perhaps you could use another elite. I played with this on Shing Jea Island (Zunraa's Quest - helped out a Guildie), in the Maguuma Jungle, and in Ice Caves of Sorrow. I will try it in some more high end areas later on to see how it fares but I'm loving it at the moment. If you leave Life for 15-20 seconds and then destroy with Feast of Souls it heals the whole party for a massive amount
Energy is no issue...you have instant energy regen when you need it and, thus far, I've only needed to use it rarely. I has considered using Reclaim Essence to destroy Life instead of Feast of Souls to provide an energy return but...meh...working fine so far.
@OP. I used to run with Preservation but I've gone off it. Most of the time it heals someone who doesn't need healing it seems and people run out of it's range too often... Also, if you're taking Life, you aught to take a skill to destroy the spirit so you can have a controlled party heal...not just when the spirit dies..

Pick Me
Man, I must be running some old school stuff then.
I'm doing very well with both energy management and massive heals:
Life
Mend Body & Soul
Resilent Weapon
Soothing Memories
Wielder's boon
Spirit To Flesh
Restoration
Attuned Was Songkai (e)
2 Spirits, 2 conditions removed with MB&S, WB for nice heals with RW, STF on Restoration for party heal, then Life will end in 30 for another party heal. AWS with SM and other spells of nice energy management and energy regain.
I know its old school, but it still works wonderfully.
