Different Opinions FTW. Anyway. This is a /yawn weekend for me. I have no interest in spending 5+ hours in the elite missions and I couldn't care less about HA. |
Also to anyone who wants to bypass the alliance issue with the deep and urgoz. Get a character that you don't play much to the deep/urgoz. Then camp them there. You can then ferry over anyone who HAS been there before on the character they want ferried. To do this just go to your guild hall, make sure you are party leader, hit "g", press the leave guild hall button. Since that button sends you back to the last place you were, you go to the deep/urgoz. This is restricted as I said above, to characters that have been there before. But once you get that initial ferry from alliance that owns it you never need it again provided you have a friend to help ya out.
What's more is this weekend you can even bypasses the alliance, just get all your chars to Kaineng and talk to the npc's for both Urgoz and the Deep and you'll never need to rely on the alliance to get ya there.
Last of all, if anyone ever wants a ferry and is willing to pay the 100g for a "guest invite" I'll be happy to do it, if I'm on and not particularly busy (which I usually am not...busy that is). <--------IGN give me a whisper.

Meh...
Doesn't do much good to folks like me who essentially solo everything... largely because they don't have reliable friends.
No reliable friends means no trips to the Deep or Urgoz's Warren for me... which is a shame because I'd really like to be part of a party going down there. I'd even let someone else set out my build for me...
But is it gonna happen?
I doubt it.
The weekend does nothing for me, and I'll just be grinding Ferndale for faction (and Warden Horns) most likely.

Horseman Of War
the thing i am most excited about is the treasure drops. maybe I will try urgoz this time around... ive only done the deep (and really have no desire to cap another kanaxai axe...)
what I want this weekend are +5e zodiacs and nothing more.

Can you take hero's in the elite missions?
Phaern Majes
You can take the heroes into the Deep but they can't enter the portals at the beginning so its pointless to bring them. Not sure about how Urgoz works.

monks need to spam heal party in degen areas - co-ordination of aegis is needed - parts of the mission the monks can't run after the player to heal as a hero would- even though you can flag you would need to disable all but aegis, hp and extinguish at the bridge
one area you would have to take out their rez's to re-birth on the bridge to go on
eoe can wipe your party out if used in wrong places
bip to monks when called is a must
careful pulling is key to success in Urgoz - knowing where spawns are and clearing a room pulling one set of spawns at a time
If you haven't done all the rooms before you need someone with you that has simply to say stop here or stand there
there are a few places where one person must stay back and wait for the rest of the group to clear an area - then join them after that
the last room alone would wipe your party as it requires constant running around avoid exploding bushes.
If you are confident you and two other people can control heros to the extent required and one person knows where to go as I am sure some people may be able to do then by all means have fun with your heros. I would hate to get to the last room and wipe because my heros won't run around in cricles amungst all the exploding bushes.
Good Luck though

Team builds on wiki:
Build:Team - Urgoz Trappers
Build:Team - "Steel Wall" Deep Group
I hope we don't crash the poor wiki site this weekend.

I never see any use the "Steel Wall" build, though its close to what is used. Normally its 3 W/A's with icy weapon, recall, and shove (other skills usually defensive boosts and maybe sever artery), 3 E/Me's with meteor shower, arcane echo, and inspired enchantment (as it recharges instantly when you remove a "monster-only" enchantment), 1 necro running Spinal Shivers or Shivers of Dread, along with Blood Ritual and Spiteful Spirit, 1 BiP, 55 bip'ing works just make sure one monk has res chant, and lastly 4 monk healers, all needing heal party.
That is the "norm" for deep. I personally prefer to bring 3 monks and 1 rit. The rit has to be restoration and healing. Usually bringing heal party, recuperation, and various other heal spells. Recuperation takes a ton of pressure off the monks in the final room.

As for the OP:
8v8 will be a welcome return. I am interested to see what type of deviant builds end up in halls. I expect a lot of paragons and ritualists running spike builds. Ranger spike has been kicking some serious butt lately too.
Urgoz/Deep - It has been some time since I've seen anyone interested in these areas. I like the fact that ANet is doing something to make them available. The availability of them is even less than Fow/UW and if the weekend succeeds, perhaps we may see some kind of modification as to accessing these areas on a more regular basis? I hope so.
cellardweller
Yay! Nowcan move my mules to the deep/warren and my assassin and ritualist can see the light of day again!
Amity and Truth
Yay.
Good way to get my new nightfall characters in.

The problem with this is that PuGing in Urgoz's Warren or The Deep isn't going to result in success. That much has essentially been stated already. Over the weekend there will be all kinds of idiots down there, and what I'd need is someone experienced to help me through it.... The odds of that are painfully slim.
In any case, I don't appreciate that you feel inclined to try and send me to play another game. If I didn't want to play Guild Wars then I wouldn't. I just needed to make a point that not everyone has friends in the game... perhaps even to say that not everyone knows other people in person who play it (the rest of GameSoc play WoW and my flatmate Adam plays Everquest 2). Furthermore, those who are already doing it are often elitist and reluctant to let anyone inexperienced in such things into the fold... thus never giving the chance to learn.

I've monked "the deep" a few times and got the mallet twice.
Everyone is still saying take "heal party" (which is obviously the thing I've done in the past) But Surely isn't "Light of Deliverance" a better main choice now - I know it has the 80% condition and is a longer recharge but its 1/3 the energy.
Sure keep "Heal Party" as a standby incase LoD is recharging but shouldn't LoD be the mainstay now ?

Gaile, if you're still reading this:
Alex Weekes posted in a thread in the HA forum that the 8v8 will actually last an entire week, not just a weekend. Can the guildwars.com site reflect / clarify that please?
edit: added linky below:

I agree. Light of Deliverance is a cheap party heal, but has a threshold to start working. When I use it (mostly on end mission in Nightfall), I like to take both, and first hit Light of Deliverance to boost the party up, and then Heal Party to finish everyone off. I've recently taken to using Glyph of Lesser Energy to pay for that combo.
