It's about time.

EDIT: I didn't mean to sound cynical or thankless. If anything, it gives me reason to replay the missions.

Wow that is actually really impressive. That's a rather lot more recoding and adding in of new animation sequences than most people think. Kudos to the devs.

Come on, don't be so negative. A-net didn't have to do this. This is pretty much a free suprise gift. When you bought Prophecies and Factions you weren't promised lip synching, so A-net never owed that to you. Just enjoy your good fortune and go check out those old missions again

It isnt as hard as you think. If Anet uses at all standard modeling programs (im speaking from experience with 3dsmax and Maya, but thats what I would expect anet to use), then all it requires is setting keys for the diffrent shapes the mouth makes forming each letter, then essentially retypeing the script into whatever program they use. ie: 1 day for 1 dev, or so.

I strongly doubt that. The system looks so incredibly basic that I wouldn't be surprised if it was a flick of a switch (although they would need to add jaws for certain characters, such as the Lich and Shiro)

From what I can tell, the jaw depth is proportional to the intensity of sound. There's no rhyme or reason to the movement of the jaws. If you watch the Shiro vs. Vizu cutscene from Tahnnakki Temple, you'll see that both of their mouths are just moving randomly.

It's just a jaw going up and down, not side to side and diagnol to diagnol, as games such as Oblivion use.

Yeah I just wish Anet had put resources from this into something a little more meaningful.

The devs have an order of operations based on things they planned all along and things asked for from the community, they also have a limited amount of resources, so once a decision is made to go forth on something like adding in the mouth movement to old chapters, they sort of have to...

To me I see that Anet is really looking to spruce up the older chapters lately. Look at the past month or 2 of posts and you will find this a direct answer to peoples complaints..

You can also look at this as a good sign that now we know where SOME of the dev time has been going, now we can expect new projects from those avenues of resource to be started as well.

This is a very good sign of very good things and totally free. A gift that carries some good assumptions behind it as i see it..

It's the same method as the mouth animations in the first Half-Life. The volume of the speech files determined how far the mouths opened. Simple, easy to model, yet fairly effective.

I like this little surprise update, adds continuity into the cinematics. Just tune out the people that complain, as if their mouths are the ones that don't move now. =D

The game is so perfect and doesnt have any bugs, so I am so glad that they spent valuable developer time working on a trival issue.
