It's about time.
EDIT: I didn't mean to sound cynical or thankless. If anything, it gives me reason to replay the missions.

Wow that is actually really impressive. That's a rather lot more recoding and adding in of new animation sequences than most people think. Kudos to the devs.
Void Assassin
I flipped out to the extreme for a full 3 min after i saw that.
That is totally awsome.

Im guesing its in preperation for the future hard mode stuff

awww I kind of liked the old "power rangers" acting :P

Yeah, I was also surprised. I didn't take this thread seriously until I checked the update myself.

From what I can tell, the jaw depth is proportional to the intensity of sound. There's no rhyme or reason to the movement of the jaws. If you watch the Shiro vs. Vizu cutscene from Tahnnakki Temple, you'll see that both of their mouths are just moving randomly.
It's just a jaw going up and down, not side to side and diagnol to diagnol, as games such as Oblivion use.

Yeah I just wish Anet had put resources from this into something a little more meaningful.
brokenmonkey
Iced come on.... so negative.

To me I see that Anet is really looking to spruce up the older chapters lately. Look at the past month or 2 of posts and you will find this a direct answer to peoples complaints..
You can also look at this as a good sign that now we know where SOME of the dev time has been going, now we can expect new projects from those avenues of resource to be started as well.
This is a very good sign of very good things and totally free. A gift that carries some good assumptions behind it as i see it..

It's the same method as the mouth animations in the first Half-Life. The volume of the speech files determined how far the mouths opened. Simple, easy to model, yet fairly effective.
I like this little surprise update, adds continuity into the cinematics. Just tune out the people that complain, as if their mouths are the ones that don't move now. =D

It is the little stuff that counts, this was a nice update.

Hooray for lip-synch! This is a very nice treat Anet's giving us.

The game is so perfect and doesnt have any bugs, so I am so glad that they spent valuable developer time working on a trival issue.
thedork01
Awesome! I thought it would just be like that forever. Thanks Anet!

When I Saw the update, I yelled to my brother from 2 floors down: "Sam, GET YOUR A** DOWN HERE!!!". This update was something i have been expecting for a LONG time (Since NF Release). Anet could not do anything else (except maybe a new elite area down ascalon, or openning the Catacombs) to make me go back and play every mission again. Thank God !!!
Feminist Terrorist
That's cool. I'll have to check it out. I guess I can only hope that they got around to fixing the rest of the character faces that were changed the first time they messed with lip synching.

A pleasant surprise, and kudos to ANet. I'm still going to skip the cutscenes with Danika, though...

I got the sweet pleasure of killing Shiro again with the guys at [Akki]. I must say I was impressed with the synching, but we found a small glitch with the envoy fading. >_>;
Overall though great job Anet, I get to see my Ele look more dramatic!

A nice surprise. I have to assume this was something they've been working on as a side-project, that just got done, and not a heavy use of manpower. There are still a lot of things that need fixed and adjusted, but it's also nice to see little things like this (and I have no idea how hard or easy it was to do, so it might not be "little")

Yay, totally unexpected!
Lets just hope that they now add important stuff to old chapters (inscriptions, insignias)

I could not believe that ANet did that. A positive surprise!
But to make me cheer, it needs some more than lip movements: Insignia and Inscriptions for Prophecies and Factions.

Wow, didn't expect that! Thanks ANet!

As already stated in other forum, clearly this is more important than the AT's. Sigh...

Inscibable weapons are also loot in HoH chests, so it can be considered part of core features.

Gotta say this was a surprise and it may be worth completing some of the Factions and Prophecies missions again just to see it in action.
A nice touch that goes a long way
Good job devs!

Meh.... I never gave a toss before and I don't give a toss now.
I play an Assassin with a face-mask, so why would I care about lip-synching...
If they could get a better voice-actor for Shiro and replace his speech files.... now THAT would impress me. I find myself laughing whenever I come across a Shiro cutscene at just how obscenely stupid he sounds...
Plus I wish the main character didn't sound so...... american. Factions characters should sound Asian... irrespective of what campaign the cutscene itself is in. Likewise Prophecies characters could sound more Western, and Elonian characters more African. It would just make sense that way.
Admittedly I'm amused that its the same guy as did the narration for Baldur's Gate.

I actually went back and did some Ascalon and Kryta quests to see this. Pity you can barely see Hablions face. Arenanet could have gotten away with leaving his mouth movement off.
Tact
Totally unexpected, but a very cool update. Cheers Anet!
Graywing
really love this update, I've always found the prophecies / factions cut scenes horrible and laughable at the same time after nightfall came out (the mime NPC's never really bordered me before. But once you get better, you get used to mouths actually moving).
So great work!
So great work!

Too bad it didnt add Spearmarshall with the lip sync, that wouldve been nice..
