Warning about a new Scam
Alex Weekes
Hi everyone,
We've been made aware of a new email scam targeting PlayNC account holders. The email claims to be from NCsoft and requests that account holders validate their account by visiting a website claiming to be an NCsoft site. This website is not an NCsoft website.
Do not follow the link in the email. We will never ask for user details in this manner. The only site you should ever use to log in to your PlayNC account is http://www.plaync.com .

Thanks for the info i've copy/pasted it onto my guild forum. Sounds similar to the old ebay scam. btw good to hear you clamping down on ebay sellers to combat bot users, i've just started my own little campaign against them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzYMJS4TgLo would be nice to have some anti-cheat software introduced to stop them though :P

I get phishing e-mails almost everyday, but not from a fake NCSoft yet. Thanks for the heads up.

NB: this does not change your Guild Wars login. Please keep in mind that after linking to PlayNC, the email address you log in with through the game client is only a username and not used for any other purpose. Your email as listed in PlayNC is used for all communication as necessary instead.

Edit: Ahh nevermind. The site is legit. I just was on PlayNc and they had the above site posted for those that had a problem. It is a survey on how well PlayNc handled the problem. Also they do not ask for your password or other account information.

This is a scam know as "fishing"... lots of is type of scam pops up. Often from banks, PayPal and eBay are the common ones.
I would suggest everyone simply avoid following any e-mails unless it something you have requested.
Also when you load any link in a e-mail, always check the web address to see if its odd looking or not.

The domain is a give away.

People should generally never follow links in email which then require them to authenticate an account. Most legitimate senders of email which request similar actions will direct you to visit the official website manually and log in, and provide other means of proving the validity of the email (for example, Paypal will address the email to your name, whereas phishing email often open with 'Dear customer' or a similar generic line).
Unfortunately, no matter the amount of literature available providing precautions and details of how to avoid these phishing scams, they continue to thrive because a large amount of people simply do not follow or are not aware of this type of information. It's the same thing with spam really, everyone complains about it but spam would not exist if it did not create business revenue (i.e. there are enough people responding to spam that it makes it worthwhile for the senders).

I actually find it quite funny when people click these things... the "I love you" email comes to mind... what a world crisis that was

I got the "I love you" email yesterday and another similar the day before.

Sad story when this happens. Just stay sharp. Nobody likes unnecessary e-drama.
