When I try to login to guild wars the news doesn't load and after I enter my password it says connecting for ages then gives error 58:
Quote:
"Guild Wars was unable to connect to any login servers. This is very likely caused by an Internet routing issue."
It started happening about 5 hours ago, but as I had other stuff to do I decided to wait and see if the problem sorted itself out. Since I have had access since the last patch and I haven't changed anything on my end I'm ruling out problems with a firewall/anti-virus/etc. Since everything else I use online still works, I'm ruling out a problem with my ISP.

So that leaves either a problem with the login servers, or a problem between me and them.

My account is on the American servers and I am located in New Zealand (NZ gets the European boxes for guild wars and I know that the European servers are currently having some trouble). So does anyone know where the problem is ?

open your firewall up and find the program list or program settings whatever the place where you can change which programs can acess the internet and make sure guildwars has full internet acess and also disable windows firewall if you have not

I did have access yesterday, and I haven't changed anything. I did check, and its allowed full access.

I didn't think to check windows firewall, but turning it off was one of the first things I did with this computer. Its still off.

Mmm I'm in New Zealand, still works for me. Who is your ISP?

It seems starnge that it would just turn off without you doing anything. Maybe you should call your ISP up? Lol except Slingshot, they never answer ^^

Does anyone know the IP addresses of the login server(s), so that I can ping/traceroute them to see if I can actually see them.

If you want to run a trace you can simply start guildwars with the -diag switch.

Open start goto run type "C:\yourpathtoguildwars\gw.exe" -diag this should output a text file in the Gw folder.

You can also try deleting GW from your firewalls program access list. If i am not mistaken Sygate is one of those firewalls that likes to use hashes to verify the validity of a program. Guildwars seems to have been updated today it is quite possible that the firewall did not request authentication of the change in the programs checksum thus denying access to the new executable.

Hey, Im just tryin to pitch in. I have 2 pcs sharin internetconnex on a switch. Now when i switch the network cables of the pcs, both of them cant get onto anet anymore (same code as urs), so im guessing a slight change in ip or summin culd cause these gw errors. Has your ip or something related changed?

Reinstalling Gw helps. The .dat copying never helped. just try a fresh install.
Interested if it works

I still have the same problem with Sygate completly disabled, so I doubt that its causing the problem.

I tried uninstalling guild wars to reinstall it. The uninstall deleted the log file, the installer (nightfall cd) is not getting past the downloading step and uninstalling deleted the log file I made.

Apparantly there was a massive DOS (Denial of Service) attack against several of the net's root servers last night.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6338261.stm

This would probably explain the random problems.

I heard somethin like this on TV: ''Attack on 3 of 13 most importat DNS servers...''

Maybe its the reason...

The article says the attacks started tuesday morning and lasted several hours. I was online till about 11pm wednesday night and I didn't notice a problem till about 11am thursday. If we assume that the BBC is talking about the UK timezone, with my times being for New Zealand I don't see why thiis would of effected things when I first noticed trouble, let alone why I'm still having trouble now.

My bad.. I ready the article as saying "In the early hours of Thursday morning".. I must read what is there, not what I THINK it says.

Apologies.

You can submit the Diagnostic file to Anet in a support ticket for further assistance, but if you want to post it here go ahead and drop the whole file on here.

As for your firewall, some firewalls that are software driven also use background services that interact with your PAL even when the firewall is disabled, you still might try removing the program from the PAL for re-learn.

Sadly that stopped being an option when I uninstalled guild wars.

I tried this. No change and sygates traffic log says that every time guild wars or its installer wanted internet access it got it.

If I took a copy of someones guild wars folder , placed it on my harddrive, then tried to run it what would happen ?

And is anyone willing to make such a copy of their guild wars folder available for me to do so ?
I won't need your .dat file, as that should redownload.

I got error=058 for two days, three days ago, I couldn't tell what the problem was. It was exactly like you, my connection was perfectly fine, I could go on the Internet, download stuff ect.

I uninstalled GW and reinstalled it. And it worked.

So as I said before, I can't reinstall.
