Ok, now, onto the discussion. I think testing 8v8 is Anet's way of listening to the community. I think the Canthan New Years event is another example. I think an Auction House is on the way as well. I think ANET is stuck on hot pavement in the middle of the hottest summer with bare feet, and they are trying to dance around and keep from burning alive while cooling things down step by step (that was fun analogy) Ok, but really folks... We need to stop bitching about EVERYTHING. Post constructive feedback, ideas, new concepts. They don't need to be in the form of "ZOMG ANET YOU SUCK, BRING 8v8 BACK NOOBZ! OMG, YOU SUCK!" The only time that is required is when the monster AI chases you in the Realm of Torment from across a mini map distance (and guess what, ANET fixed that...thank God...) So, stop bitching, start giving them positive feedback and CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

To Keski and Rahja the Thief, I salute you. You guys completely summed up exactly what instantly comes into my head as soon as I read a post bashing Anet. I really don't see how people can complain as much as they do when Anet puts all this work into making the game more enjoyable. Well, I see how they do it, I just don't see how they reason with themselves that it's the right thing to do.

Did anyone else read that press release from the wintersday event? The one that said that over 20 million hours of gameplay was recorded during that event? Every time I checked the districts, there were at least 60 of each, and that was just Europe. Imagine how much of a strain that would have put on their servers. They would have had to have people keeping an eye on it in case they crashed. OVER CHRISTMAS THEY DID THIS FOR YOU GUYS AND ALL YOU DO IS COMPLAIN!! I wish I could say that my caps lock just got stuck, and all this complaining hasn't forced me to all caps yet, but it didn't get stuck.

Anyway, basically all I wanted to say is this: Anet, keep doing exactly what you're doing. The people enjoy it. It's good to have a quality escape from reality like this game, so my hat goes off to you. Or it would if I could find it.

PS Rahja: That analogy made me cringe. It was good, don't get me wrong. It's just, in Australia, that's basically what we live with for most of the year. Painful memories of trying to get down to the beach and having no feet by the time we get to the water came flashing into my head.

OK, here is something I can never understand about people like Zinger...

You stopped playing GW for whatever reason and you have moved on to another game, WoW. So, why aren't you posting on a WoW forum? Why are you posting on a forum for a game that you no longer play? And more importantly why do you insist on telling people who obviously still enjoy playing GW that it is doomed to fail?

And yes I do know you are entitled to your opinion and it's a free board and blah, blah, blah...And wait that's another thing I want to know, why does everyone who comes on to bash a game that they no longer play say that they are entitled to their opinion, etc.?

Oh and to be at least somewhat on topic...I love the way Anet gives us these fun little weekends and events. And I'm still rather blown away that Anet gave us the mini pets for our 1 year b-day. Anet always seems to be looking for new stuff to give us apart from the stuff that we ask for.

The Community asked for a better way to find groups, and after a year and half we finally get it and it actually looks pretty well thought out but guess what...NOBODY FREAKIN USES IT!!!!!!!! So I ask you, why would Anet want to give us an auction house just so that nobody can use it. Personally I don't need an auction house, I don't want an auction house and I hope Anet never gives us an auction house. Meh...

Demand. Personally, I never had a problem finding groups. And one of the main driving forces behind the party formation requests was people who didn't want to sort through trade spam in their district to find a group. What was the first thing I saw when I used the party search for the first time? WTS: Some random thing. A well thought out auction systems can be very effective. I point to http://www.guildwarsguru.com/auction/ as evidence of that. Personally, I think it would be nice to have something similar without having to take screenshots of my items and log onto some third party site to put them up. And I'd greatly prefer a month of no events with a well thought out auction systems to week after week of double greens, double faction, double dye.

Well, I love Guild Wars and I play it almost everyday. I've never played WoW or any other MMO game so I don't have anything to compare it to. I judge GW entirely on it's own merits rather than saying, "gee, this other game has X and I now I want X in GW".

I'm not naming names (you know who you are), but I'm sick and tired of seeing all the negativity on these forums. There are some posters that I won't even bother to read anymore. I know as soon as I see the poster's name that the post will be nothing more than a gripe session, and I'd rather not waste my time reading it. There's nothing wrong with posts that can politely point out areas in GW that are lacking without descending to the level of "I hate this game, WoW is soooo much better". That's what Gaile Gray and other A-Net employees are looking for in these forums. They want our suggestions, but I'm also guessing that they don't bother with with "GW SUCKS!!!" posts either.

One topic I would like answered is the whole "auction house" topic. I thought that I read somewhere a while back that GW would never develop it because it would be a copyright violation with WoW. Is this correct, or did I just imagine this?

Agreed, a depressingly big part of GW community is "rotten apples" both in-game and on fansite forums, maybe it's the lack of monthly fee or maybe it's something else. All I know is that A) in-game everyone should try to find a good guild & alliance to unleash GWs actual potential, and B) outside the game (on discussion forums) there will be whining no matter what ANet does or doesn't do.

Because of B) I rarely visit forums anymore, and A) is the main reason I still play. It's not all about the content, it's also a lot about what kind of people you surround yourself with.

Anet needs to change HA to what it used to be and stop messing about with it, 80% of my friends list wants to sell their accounts.

I could have quoted any number of posts here, but yours was the closest, Raven. This thread(and others) make me think of my job- My team of coworkers average 13-15 years in our company, so have a lot of experience, and have a lot of "back in the day" moments. We are rather vocal in our suggestions for improvements at times. Our boss manages well- He says " I listen to you all, filter through what is important and relevant, and take that forward".

So, one person with a personal gripe will probably not see any action on that, but when 15 of us have the same idea/complaint, he knows it's valid and tries to take action. Same theory with forums, I believe.

Of course, he also takes some flak for "listening" to his team and speaking up in meetings. He is told that we are too vocal and complain too much! But he knows that we are honestly care about the company and hate to see lower quality work and procedures. If we hated our job, we would look elsewhere. Again, same theory with games and forums.

Although I wince sometimes reading the flames and condescending comments, I think people post here because they do like GW and really want it to be better. It's the "what would be better" part we don't always agree on.

Back to the OP- I think Anet is responding to the (mostly) positive reception to their original weekend events, and giving us more. Maybe it's old hat to those of us who have been playing 21 months, but there are new players every day, and this could be their first holiday. I bet they love it. I still do.

You cant make excuses anymore about Guildwars being free and blah blah blah, because there are so many new free MMOs on the market that have sprung up over the past year as free-to-play with a cash shop its down right rediculous. I must have at least 10 new MMOs I've downloaded in the past 2 months, and I dont have time to play them all.

My newest one I'm enjoying very much is 9Dragons (Aclaim is bending over backwards to make the community happy).

Anet needs to keep up with the new competition of MMOs springing up left and right. Its getting harder and harder for them to compete, and they wont be able to compete unless they improve the content and replayability of their product.

2moons is the next MMO in the works to be released as entirely free-to-play this year. No cash shop! Only unobtrusive advertisements that pop up if your loading a map, but otherwise do not distract from game play.

Advertisement endorsed games will be the future of gaming in the next few years. Guildwars cant compete with that if they continue to make people pay up front.

Sure, it worked 2 years ago, but 2 years ago is forever in the gaming industry. They need to change with the times.

Not that i have anything against underarmor...their socks save my toes from freezing in -11 degree weather.

I dont consider those other free-to-play MMOs very good. From my experiences they give you as little as possible and try to make you pay for the good stuff. They are usually grind heavy and quite boring. >.>

In game ads...no. This isnt a sports game. Thats the only legitimate excuse for advertising that will accept (since it actually helps with the immersion).

I think the next step of GW will be different. 1-3 is done. Lets see what 4 brings.

Okay I just did a rough count of the games I have purchased, about 65, out of them, Guildwars, IS THE ONLY GAME THAT I GET ANY SPECIAL ATTENTION FROM THE DEVELOPERS. The only one. I am not counting monthly fee games, as I have a couple of them, they are a different story, and yet Guildwars still puts them to shame IMO.
Do I have to list all the games that do nothing. Just have a look at your pile of games from devs who are no longer around, or no longer care, and quit being so godawful greedy. Your lucky to get a patch to fix release bugs with some developers.
Why is it that the GW player base feels they are owed something because they purchased a game ? Because from day one ANet have been giving freely what no other game does, and now the player base is acting, for the most part anyway, like spoiled brats. They have come to expect a level of service no company could meet, a lot of you need to take a step back and really think about the situation.
I cannot complain about this game anymore, sure there are things that I wish they would/could change, but I'm tired of being mixed in with the lot of whiners that populate most forum boards, complaining about a company that treats them quite well, and does so willingly and continually.

Why do people expect perfection from ANet? Because you paid 50 dollars three times, that is no exccuse, and NEVER will be.

**hand in the air** I don't want to play PVP...I will run through prophecies with every possible character before idedicate myself to pvp...this game is not just about PVP, nor is it about PVE.

This is the first online game I chose to play becasue I did not want to deal with monthly fees, etc. I never got an internet connection for any of my consoles because I did not want some 12 year old kid pwning me from across the country...the computer is hard enough.

I want to log on at night and relax for a few hours...I don't PUG cuz I don't need the interaction. I work and coach and see hundreds of people every day...

yes...ditto...online games have been slow to infiltrate the adult ranks. I am 33 and I have gotten three friends/coworkers to play.

Adults are extremely brand loyal and will not play as often so 8 months between chapters is not that big a deal...I sill don't ahve my first tormented gemstone or Urgotz bow yet.

Oh noes! Anet doesn't care!!!!! Man, apparently you guys don't get their business model. They have your money, they are winning awards on popular websites, they are popular and well known. Chapter 4 will bring new players. They only improve the current game because they want to keep some of the current players. If half of the current population leaves, they will be replaced or comeback when chapter4 releases, thus giving ANET $50 USD and perfecting their business model.
