Ok, would you mind taking a screenshot of it when it crashes? Hit Printscreen on your keyboard, open MS Paint, and hit CTRL + V. Save it as a JPEG image, and host it on www.imageshack.us. Click the resize option and select 640x480. Either that or tell me exactly what occurs and exactly what "part" it crashes at.

Okay, I cant really take a screenshot of it because that wont say anything and its not that it crashes it just disapears, but okay it comes up accesses areanet then goes to the downloading part gets through that fine, the desktop icon appears so i click on that and then right after it says decompressing it just completely dissapearrs i've tried repeating this many times with no luck, help would be greatly appreciated

Download the client off the site, hopefully that works. Its the same as installing it from your CD. Just when you get to the main screen input your cd key and what not and you should be golden.

Ok, so you installed guildwars but that when you physically try to run the program it disappears? No error message or warning dialog?

It sounds like you have the -image tag on the end.

Firewalls would result in an Error dialog being presented stating that a connection could not be established. The fact that it downloaded updates and began the decompression process would indicate that it has sufficient network access rights. The question would be is Guildwars the only application that is affected. It sounds like a windows/software problem. Maybe a lack of privileges, though very often in instances like these it turns out to be system software component corruption on a large scale.
You should certainly submit a support ticket.
It would also be good to know what kind of hardware your system has.

it is a sure bet that you must meet the minimum requirements for the application to even start, though there are exceptions.

CPU Speed - 1.6 GHZ (Rated at 3.2)
Video Card - ATI Radeon Express 1100 (64 mb)
Sound Card - Realtek HD Audio Output
RAM - 512 mb
As you can see its definately not my specs that are affecting it because i recently just installed it on my parent computer which isnt quite as good as mine and the game installed fine and plays great with absolutely no lag

my firewall at work gives me no message, it will get to about 80% and then just exit. no mesage or error or anything.
gone
i'm thinking something along the lines of firewall, or possibly HD space. (hope it's that simple)

Stupid question, are youi wsing a laptop, and second stupid question are you using a wired or wireless connection? Using a laptop may be the problem but I don't realy do not think so due to the fact that you get so far and it just closes. Using a wireless connection over a wired one is more likely the cause due to instability in the actual connection. If it blinks it may interupt the dl client and stop it. If you are using a wireless connection try to connect to the router with an ethernet wire and see if it still stalls.

See here is my point, unless your IT department is filled with a complete bunch of retards its doubtful that you are an administrative user at work. In order for Guildwars to run it needs to be able to read and write to the files it is accessing as well as various folders stored within your user profile during startup and play.
To my knowledge Decompression is a Local Operation on a Local file, it has nothing to do with the download of content unless you are missing content in the case of GuildWars. If it fails while it is decompressing then in my opinion the problem lies in a local system failure unless your profiles and software installations sit on a remote file server that handles your domain. Which this is obviously not the case with a single home Pc here.
While it does not rule out the possibility of a network failure, it is much more likely in my opinion that the application is failing to either find a file it requires or is unable to read and write to a location it needs to.
There are viruses and maleware that can have fun with your profile configurations. I just trouble shot a machine not 5 hours ago that had gotten a hold of something that changed the users profile from a readable, writable location to a read only location. It in effect it made every installation seem as though it just magically disappeared or it just plain never would start.
Just as a side note as for laptop over desktop, and wireless over wired though good trouble shooting ideas, My laptop sitting on the side of me with Guildwars Maxed and a ping of 80 would disagree, 1 error 7 in almost 2 years with no other error code ever. Wireless connections are not as unstable as people like to believe even though they are condition dependent.

It could be that you're using a FAT file system, making gw crash whenever the gw.dat file goes over 4gb.

Yes I am using a laptop, and no i am not using a wireless network like i do but for downloading i hooked up the ethernet cord...this is really starting to get frustrating could someone please give me a legit diagnosis or a walkthrough on how to fix this

Ok here are several things to check out. First it sounds like a firewall on your laptop may be blocking the client for some reason. What firewall do you use? Here is why I ask, if you have a third party firewall and it is active, and you are also running the built in windows firewall it can cause some very strange problems (like what is happening to you now). If you are running a third party firewall disable the windows firewall. Now I do need some info on what firewall you are running before I can help out further. Another thing, does your router have a built in firewall (I do not think that if it does it is the problem due to the fact that it is letting the main computer run Guild Wars). If it does then you can try to turn off the firewall on your laptop to see if it is causing conflicts (I truly do not recommend this except during diagnosis of problems, gotta check everything).

K, Never mind i solved the problem turns out i had some Trojan/Spyware action which disabled alot of things, but i got it all fixed...mods can close this topic if they wish
