Assassin Questions
Cyon Vaan
I am considering making an Assassin character, but I don't know what to choose as my secondary profession. I have read all I can find on guildwiki, and have read multiple walkthroughs, and they all have something different to say. So, which secondary profession would you recommend? Thanks!

Stormlord Alex
The assassin is, by itself, a pretty self-sufficient class. I personally look at skills that require little to no investment to get a lot out of, rounding off my build while allowing me to concentrate on killing stuff.
To this end... My favourite 'sin 2ndaries are:
/W for [skill]Burst of Aggression[/skill]
/Mo for [skill]Mending Touch[/skill]
/N for [skill]Plague Touch[/skill] , as well as hexes to compliment the 'Black' line of 'sin skills.
::EDIT:: If this is for PvE mostly, then Mesmer is an incredibly good choice allowing you to survive in tougher areas... Try [skill]Mantra of Frost[/skill] against the afflicted!

I went A/Rt, but only for easy capping. Personally, I would go with another Physical class like Warrior, Ranger, Dervish, or Paragon if you take him to Elona. A/W or A/D are particularly deadly as you can use high damage weapons like scythes or hammers, and get a lot of crits off them too.
AZ DarkKnight
I went /R but that was more for the defensive side as 1) I like survivor Sins ,2) the easiest (IMO) ascension in Tyria and 3) was easiest for me to cap elites.
I think this thread is showing you that there is no one answer, it all depends on what you want to do with the char and what skills you feel happiest using.

Personally I only use Assassin skills for my builds, but in the beginning I used a Ranger.
Ranger- You have defensives skills like whirling defenses good for get in and get out (does not last long) or Apply poison for degeneration with your daggers. Also Trolls Urgent is good to use before you attack helps with spikes.
Monk- You can use Healing breeze good like I said above to help with spikes. And also add rebirth or Resurrection.
In the beginning of factions you have limited skills, so survivability is main concern. When you get to Level 20 and both attribute quests done. You can rely more on just the assassin skills for defense and healing.

I'd say don't stress over it too much since you can change your 2nd soon enough. If you were starting in Prophecies then the free skills through quest rewards is something to consider but you don't get much of that in Factions.

As has been said, by the time it's important, you're able to switch secondary profession anyway. FWIW - I like to have Ranger for complimentary skills and alternative ranged attack options. If I'm going solely with Sin skills, then I go Monk secondary, because Rebirth is so much better than a limited use res signet, when you're trying to complete a mission with a team of suicidal henchies.
I actually started with Ele, but consider that a mistake. It did give me ranged attack skills to switch over to *completely* (for missions I just couldn't manage at close quarters), but it didn't really seem to mesh with a Sin. That said, there is an interesting solo green hunting build on wiki, for A/E.

My 'sin uses A/R. When I am playing with guildies or friends who don't care what i take, it's is good for degen. if I am bored and feeling like a PUG, the Crit Barrager variant gets me into groups more often than not.

My assassin is also an A/Me. I mainly did this because Assassins and Mesmers both take Lyssa as their patron deity, plus there are a few skill combos between classes that can be handy. For example - using Distortion to fill the gap while I wait for Flashing Blades to finish recharging (it's been useful to me on a few occasions where escaping hasn't been a viable option). I don't use the Me hexes much. Maybe they'll be useful somewhere, but not going with my particular style of play right now.

Well, I got a sort of the same problem...
I want to make a sin/necro or a necro/sin
but wich one as my 1th and wich on as my 2th?
*sigh*

*sigh* That depends whether you want a selection of main Necro skills with Assassin support skills... or a selection of main Assassin skills with Necro support.
For the former, just about any class can benefit from an Assassin's shadow-stepping and speed boost skills. There are additionally a few Deadly Arts hexes that can go quite nicely alongside Curses. Assassin's Promise is good for recharging skills with long recharge (though a Soul Reaping necro won't really need the extra Energy generally).
For the latter, Parasitic Bond is great for black-line triggering and gives a heal at the end.... and Mark of Pain can make a simple spike into a dangerous AoE.
And most importantly of all, don't forget that secondary can be changed at Senji's corner... or rather other secondaries unlocked for easy switching. Primary class is thus all that really matters after that point.
To the original poster... A/Me is the way to go. Web of Disruption is a great unlinked hex for Blacklining...

Oke, I think I go for the Assassin/Necromancer then...
Thanx for ''support ''

If you are starting a pve sin.....the best thing to do is take a class that you are familiar with and is very safe.... the levels before lvl 20 are quite a drag on the sin ....its pretty hard.... the sin only really gets fun after levl 20 (ascended etc...)
looking back after a week of grinding up the levels... i would choose secondary ranger and henchway to levl20

Now, you guys are making me doubt again
I had a assassin before, so I know what it is,
but I never had a necro before....
So I'm doubting (doubting? I don't think it's doubting, but wethever... You know what I mean!)
about that...
Cause if I take a necro/ Assassin, I can't change the 1th profession...
Only my 2th, and I don't like it to start allover again in case I don't like it...
BUT I do like the Necro's armor and face MUCH more then the once of the Assassin...
so I have a little of a huge problem ( for me...)
I can't chose

Well, what skills do have with which professions, knowing what your good at can help us help you.
ensoriki
A/Mo
Is probably the easiest for beginners and something less complicated
You can get condition removal, small healing from things like live vigarously use regen... blah blah
....and going A/W just for an IAS is booooring -_- sure you can kill something in under 4/5 seconds...but you die 4/5 seconds after...maybe 2

I have to agree with ensoriki, for PvP and PvE
clawofcrimson
wild blow is also useful from /w
I started with a/mo and found that it was still difficult being at the low level I was and fighting melee....(of course I was always farther than my levl should have been but...) I got to lv 20 in just a few hours of play....using smiting skills from a distance and sending in the henchis....lol....

@sterrekat:
make both then! xDDD
Seriously though, you know how the assassin plays and I'm assuming you probably deleted it from the way it sounds. So try the necro. Get a feel for it. Then you can decide if you want to try an Assassin/Necro
I'm actually considering adding another secondary to my sin to /N to get parasitic bond _._
At first i had my sin as /R because I think that was one of the more popular ones at the time with the Crit Barrager builds. Then I changed to /Mo so I could have better res and possible HB. In the end I just used all sin skills anyway. Added /D for possible running build before Deadly Paradox got nerfed.
Soooo yeah. Just depends on how you wanna play

I deleted it because I had a sin/rit
and I didn't like the Ritualist
...
I was too lazy to wait till I was ascended...
So it's not that I don't like the sin
It's not for PVP, rather PVE
I'm not the one who farms all the time, so..
Just strumbling around and stuff.
Exploring area's and sometimes a mission if I've got nothing else to do
And ofcourse little quests
I'm not really an active player, I'm lazy
And I like it
I think I'll go for the Sin/Necro... ( convince me otherwise

To be honest, I'd say you made the right choice.
Necro skills are more useful to an Assassin than Assassin skills are to a Necro. Afterall, while I spend much of my Assassin's time as A/N, my primary Necro when I get her out into the world should be going mostly N/Me.
