i had the exact same problem too.

i forget exactly how to fix it but it includes opening up norton and removing guild wars from the list of things to block.

Go to control pannel > add remove programs > find norton and uninstall. Fixed.

I can't 100% answer your question, but I think that norton has a safe list that stores sites that let's them bypass Norton all together.

Suggestion: Open norton and look for "safe" or "allowed" areas. This should resolve the issue I think. If you're having a lock up issue with Norton I highly suggest running an offsite virus/spyware scan. I personally use trendmicro. It seems to catch some things that Norton misses and it's free. then after you're clean try uninstalling and reinstalling norton.

These are just things to try of course. Good luck.

Disregard this, you're always gonna see rude replies like this one.

Thnx i did run a scan with Norton found a few things, but im still screwed.
Norton just kee freezing. I know that it has something to do with a stupid "Zwinky" thing that my little sister downloaded. I was running fine last night, then she used computre, and everything got jacked up (typical bs with her).

Theres an add i jsut saw on here for the stupid thing. DO NOT USE IT. It is what is causing all my troubles.

First, your sister should never be allowed near the comp again, at least until she learns some responsibility.
Second, did you try running it in safe mode?

I don't know about Norton, but when something screwy like that happens to me doing scans/removing things in safe mode usually works.

You could try restoring from a system restore point, then re-install norton. Either way, your Norton install sounds screwed.

Another thing you can try: remove GW from Norton's access control list. When GW tries to connect to the internet, you should be prompted again for permission to connect (assuming Norton is fine).

If Nortron allows GW but it still doesn't work, check if TCP ports 80 and 6112 are allowed. Also have you tried disabling the firewall while keeping the antivirus active. Not the best solution but it works, at least for me when i had internet security 2006.

Norton is evil and must be erradicated!

DOWN WITH NORTON!!!

Actually, in all seriousness, get it off your system, its a horrible resource hog and it thinks it knows how to run your system better than you do

But if someone is actually using norton, I have to wonder if it does or not. As norton has been like the worst anti virus/firewall bloat-ware for a while now. It amazes me that people still use it when there are free programs that do all it does 100s of times better.

This has recently been discussed in quite detail in the Computer press in the UK and it comes down to a simple couple of facts

1, Symantec pay companies to ship the software with new PC builds (and yes, most companies will knock the cost off if you say you don't want it)

2, because of this, it has become a well known name and is easy to sell

3, at least 60% of the computer using community isn't computer savvy and can easily be classed as sales suckers, harsh but true

Several reasons that I quit using Norton and went to using Zonelabs Zonealarm:
1 Norton is a known system hog, can slow your computer to a crawl at times.
2 The difficulty in allowing programs to have internet access, jumping through hoops to let my favorite programs to run is not my idea of fun at all.
3 Zonealarm has 2 versions, free for the cheepskates in all of us, and paid for which adds a few extras which are worth the proce.
4 Zonealarm only asks for permission to allow a program to run once, and then after the .exe file has been changed (I have had no problems running Guild Wars at all with Zonealarm).
5 Zonealarm runs in the background with a minimum of system resources unless it detects something wrong.

These are my reasons for booting Norton from my computer. One of the posters here has said to not run any other programs whike gaming. THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. It takes less than a minute for an outsider to take over an unprotected computer, so disabling a firewall for any reason other than for troubleshooting is a bad idea and not reccommended.
