Guild Wars. Maybe I played GW for too long, but I cannot stand the targeting and controls in WoW :P

GW is a lot more casual and gvg rocks, but WoW has a better world and the large pvp is fun.

i think gw, i found the fighting syastem in WoW to be way to confusing, plus i'm a casual player, so guilf wars is free and casual, so it gets my vote

I'm actually playing World of Warcraft right now. I love both games, but not in the same way, as they really are sort of like apples and oranges. To break it down into the simplest manner possible:

When I want to play PvP, I log into Guild Wars.
When I want to play PvE, I log into Warcraft.

Here is where it gets tricky though, and remember, this is all just my own opinion.

Guild Wars has a better PvP system all-around than World of Warcraft, however, at this point in time, World of Warcraft is actually better balanced Profession and Skill wise. If success in WoW PvP wasn't so heavily reliant on how much gold you have, and how perfect your gear is, it'd be a toss up between the two games for me. Guild Wars may be imba'd to hell sometimes, but the PvP is just more organized and skill-reliant.

When it comes to PvE, WoW is the clear victor. Guild Wars has breathtaking environments and absolutely excellent musical scores, but the instanced game play without any sort of respawning hurts (though I fully understand why it is this way, and wouldn't want this to change). You clear a zone, and that's it, you are done. This is of course compared to the open world of WoW, where respawns happen anywhere between a few seconds (yeah, I die a lot in some areas because of that insanity) to a few days. You can't finish up a zone and move on to the next one, because the zone, and combat therein, is never-ending. WoW may not look or sound as amazing, but the endless stream of foes makes up for that. The kill-stealing is pretty stupid, which is where Guild Wars has a clear upper hand, but the random buffs from passing players, and the ability to hook up randomly with some guy running the same way you are, maybe even doing the same quest you are doing, is awesome. Then of course there are the little things, which have all been mentioned across all these forums before, such as swimming, jumping (aside from the /jump emote ), the Auction House... Both games could have a lot these (jumping in GW might be a bad idea for PvP, so of course that would be out), but only one does.

So, as to which I like better, the answer is neither. If the question was "Which do you like better for X", where X was PvP or PvE, however, I would be able to give a straight Y or Z answer. Both games are amazing in their own ways, but they can't be played the same.

P.S. DreamRunner, don't diss roleplayers, I'll kick your face.

Kick my face, is that it? Thats pretty funny. The internet is a very serious business, I'm sure!
I dislike most roleplayers for many reasons which I've had over the years. But, people get trapped into the alternative univerise of WoW, roleplayers or not. Its just that roleplayers are the biggest target. Its a game, period. And I can also dislike, hate at them as much as I will. Certainly, not from stupid comments of the internet will change my mind and threats like "i'll kick your face" won't either.

The Goods of Guild Wars:
-Low lvl cap
-Instances
-Great graphics
-Great sounds
-The ability to use NPC's to help you
-Fun PvP
-Medium PvE
The Bad Stuff:
-Large amounts of lag
-Loading screens are common
-Limited maps in PvP
-Restrictions to elite ereas (Especially the Fissure of Woe and Underworld)

I haven't played WoW, but I know that it takes like 4-5 months to get to lvl 60... Which is bad.

Its like myspace, so a few million people use it, doesnt mean its the best?

GW's is a great game especially considering its free. I played another mmorpg before for £6/mo and now it looks quite frankly pathetic compared to GW, and quite frankly GW can only really get better (touch wood) bring on the 4th chapter I say

Please bear in mind alot of opinions will be heavily biased. People playing Guild Wars may be playing due to lack of monthly fees and the lack of grind required. Therefore such players would think that WoW is inferior due to monthlty fees and large time devotion required.

Same goes for asking this question on WoW forums. WoW may be able to devote massive amounts of time to playing it and afford the monthly fees therefore think that Guild Wars is too linear and has too lower lvl cap etc.

As someone said above its like comparing apples to oranges. Guild Wars allows me to PVP quickly through the use of PVP chars while in WoW I need to get to a high lvl. Well in WoW you can get to lvl 30 in 2 days so I guess lvling is not too bad...

For me WoW offers alot more which appeals to me.

The numbers also speak ALOT. You cannot expect an awful game to sell so well. If a film brings in hundreds of millions of dollars you can say quite safely it is a good film which many people like. Same goes to WoW, from the sales you can tell that it is a hugely successful mmorpg, obviously it cannot be rubbish for so many people to play it.

Simple as this
PvP = GW ... guys who like FPS, Squad Based shooters, RTS, Team RTS, Diablo

PvE = WoW ... like every other MMO it is another MMO with unique things as they all have... grind lvl grind lvl enjoy areas with friends team work to face hard odds

basically if you get satisfaction off of killing mosters go for WoW
if you like grinding your ass off for best weapons and profession go for WoW

If you to kill people use extreme tactics and skills that test any gamers abilitys to where you must get skills off in a quarter second GW is for you... it lacks in extended PvE but it more than makes up for it in a Thrilling enjoyable community building PvP.
