Gday all

I have been playing Guild wars for 6 months and i really think this is one of the best games ever!!! But that is until yesterday that i warped in to Granite Citadel and saw some thing which i thought Anet frowned upon, yes all the fellow guild war gamers know what i am talking about, THE BOTS there are hundreds of them, no wonder u can never get a monk for a mission they are all there. SO now is my question to Anet WHY THE HELL AREN'T U GUYS DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THEM. Cause i cant believe that u dint know about it!!! I have spoken to numerous ppl concerning this matter and they all agree with me that its illegal and i know that Anet doesn't condone such actions. So if someone an give me a answer why nothing is being done about this the i would appreciate it allot.

Thanks

They are doing something about it.
Just because they don't tell you, doesn't mean it's not happening

Hi,

first off all, you didn't mention at all, that you took screenshots of those bot activities and then did report it to Anet, did you ?
If you did, very well done!

If not, you need to do that, each and every time you see suspicious activity in terms of Bots. www.guildwars.com support pick your area, ask a question.

Last I was in the Citadel and noticed bots, I delayed my party, took screenshots and reported that to Anet. Got my mail, mail received, got my second mail, activity will be investigated and I will not be informed of any outcome.
Fair enough, but I did what I could do to stop it.

Fact is, bots will come and go due to ban. They will find new spots, we report they get banned.
It will never stop. Unfortunately.

As long as people are willing to pay reallife money for game money, bots will exist and they will always find a way to corrupt game economy, greed is the magic word here.

What I'm trying to say is, it's ok to complain about bots, but the complaint is useless unless you as gamer do your part to prevent bots, such as report them instantly.

Once reported, it will take time for Anet to investigate the matter and that investigation will take time, as it's not enough just to ban playernames based on screenshots. They (should) ensure, that the one getting the money from the bots actually gets banned too.
I've noticed it once before, they banned a huge amount of bots in one stroke, after apparently a thourough (?) investigation, IIRC, about 40.000 accounts. (Didn't check, but you can read about it on guildwars.com, check the archives).

Just checked Citadel on american servers, not one bot. Did anet finally do something?

I know on euro servers there was a lot though.

Oh god, another person who thinks Monks are bots.....
Farmers yes likely, but by now they've been nerfed and ajusted soo badly that very few farmers even use monks.
There are easier and more useful builds for farming that aren'tmonks ;D

Because a line of indentical Mo/Ws with names like Xyszz Zx following the exact same path, stuttering on the same rock every time, perpetually doing this 24/7 aren't bots?

I think Santaclaus66 hit the nail on the head. Follow that advice and you'll do fine.

And also there is no way Anet can police the millions of accounts and activity over the many servers even half the time we as players have to do our part to help the community out.

The reason for a bunch of monks at Granite is because the zone for Mineral Springs is where you cap Shield Of Judgement.

I may seem very innocent here, especially as i've been playing GW for nearly two years, but can anyone explain some BOT questions for me?

Firstly, how can you tell a bot from a player (except for the obvious when they are announcing GW gold or something)?

Secondly, how do BOTS actually work, doesnt a player still have to control the character in the game zone? I've never really understood bots, what they are and how they work.

I've prolly seen loads of bots, but never realised or was just too busy passing through town and onto next quest.

Thanks,

Ferret

It is not always easy to tell a bot from a real player, or a real player from a bot, but there are signs that give strong hints.

A bot is basically a character that is being controlled by the computer either through following a preset series of scripted actions, or more rarely by using a form of artificial intelligence (or a combination of both). There is no player involvement at all.

If you get a chance map to Granite Citadel and look at the Mo/W characters there. They look like ants, all following the same path over and over again and performing the same actions at the same time. They will run in a straight line from the spawn point to the signpost, pause about 10 seconds, take three steps right, pause, turn to face exit, pause, walk through exit.. etc.

I too have never really understood bots either. I think I understand the movement aspect, but the fighting part I don't get. How does the script recognize if there is enemy to fight or whether it's getting attacked? Is it just that certain areas always have specific enemy spawn points and the bot just moves to that location and then executes a predetermined skill sequence? Just curious since someone brought this thread up.

You can tell if a bot from a player from their movement. Some of them have weird names like Skuld said. They all run in the exact same path (on the Euro servers in granite they run in a circle before leaving) and sometimes do emotes as if trying to act liek a player.

Hell there were even a few in Altrum Ruins that said the same thing on local to each other before doing /taunt and /excited (anyone remember the "hello" and "I love you" bots?)

Hmmm….

I just had a couple of random ideas about how to make botting just that little bit more difficult.

As the initial spawn point in most towns is one of several locations, most bots use the town signpost for initial orientation. So why not:

1) Move the location of the sign posts. If it is on the right had ride of the entrance, move it to the left, or vice versa. This won't have any effect whatsoever on human players, but the chaos it would cause to bots for a while would be hysterical to watch! Imagine the monk traffic jam at Granite Citadel when the all turn right at the sign post, take three steps and then all walk straight into a wall LOL Or how about having the signpost location be a random spawn somewhere near the entrance?

2) Make town signposts a non-targetable object so that they can’t click and auto-run to it.

Bah – I guess they would just change the orientation object to something else such as storage, or a static NPC.

Hmmm again…

How much would players complain if all NPCs and objects in towns were non-targetable though, so that you had to manually control your character to go and talk to anyone or to go to storage etc? You don't even need to be able to target henchmen now as you can add them with the Party Search panel. If bots had no way of automatically orientating themselves in a town in order to find the exit, then this could have a big effect. Even if this was tried only at the most popular botting locations, it might be worthwhile?

I certainly rarely use auto-run in towns myself, as I like to guide my character myself and run around other players rather than through them.

This is what intrigued me. How does this work? Will bots stupidly give stuff to you if you open trade with them? I would think they would just ignore the trade request.

Yes Virginia, there are bots. Report them to Guild Wars Support, not this forum. Closed.
