Game Masters and Better Spam Filters
Achunai
When i move around in the amazing cities of GW i cant help but being bothered with all the spamming. Thats why i think it would be geat to have some GM's to look after the cities for people who spam and use abusive language or something like that, it would make it more pleasant to play the game.
We players cant do anything about that, i know that both other players and myself have been insulted by other players after telling them nicely to stop spamming, this also goes for players that is selling their weapons and materials and other stuffs in the wrong chat.
Another way is ofcourse to improve the spam filter.

The Anet business model means they don't have GMs. You don't pay a monthly fee, so no one's going to pay them. Just turn off the 'All' window if it bothers you too much.

Who says they have to pay. I bet there are many people out there who would gladly help if needed. And im not doing this only for me, but for everyone that thinks the same.

Even volunteer GM's imply that ANet will have to be responsible for who they choose. For example, if a GM gets a bit too power hungry and starts acting like a dictator, ANet will have to intervene. This kind of extra head ache is not something ANet wants. They already have an overly demanding community to babysit.
The best thing to do is turn off local chat. It works wonders. I've been having the best time playing GW with it off for the past half-year.

Well Chewbacca, you have a point there, thats true. And yes ofc you can turn the local chat off, but still there can be some good discussions going on that you can participate in. And i lwant to be social sometimes with other ppl without having the spams interfering.
But still improving the spam filter could be a good idea.

I don't know what the best approach for dealing with the irritating trade spam (in the local channel), but I hope Anet can find something.
Unfortunately, I have to disable the local channel in some of the busier districts. I wish I didn't have to do it, because I enjoy interaction with others online.
It seems if you want to participate in the local chat in, say, Lion's Arch...you may as well kiss your ass goodbye, because it's probably not going to happen.

something simple like you cant post the same line within 10 seconds or something like that would help slightly.
I know like any filter the really annoying people will go around it, but it would hopefully quash the people who just spam the same 4 lines back to back just to get attention
I know its not fullproof but its something, cause I dont really want to turn the chat off, but in the busy towns you have to, and you might miss out on finding the trade deal or party you were after (seeing as very few people actually use the seek party it seems >_>)

If nobody can spam, then nobody NEEDS to spam.
I say disable spamming of the same line, or any slight variation of the same line for an entire minute. The only people who will be frustrated by this are the spammers, and they deserve no love. Then people can casually read the occasional advertisement in between lines of conversation.
Sounds like a winner to me

However, if the paste function itself was disabled for 10 or 15 seconds after the first paste, that might help reduce spam.
Edit: Another thought, what if pasting was disabled in the local channel? (or, is there a legitimate need for copy/paste there?)

It's in these threads somewhere, but Anet should implement a spam filter that can be changed client side. (that's you) The player chooses what words are filtered and what ones stay. Spammers can't get around a filter if they don't know when they are being filtered. People could choose to filter WTS, w TS, \/\/ T $, and the like from the local channel. If you give people the power, then Anet won't have to develop another spam filter again. It's more costly now, but saves cost in the future.

With the availability of the Regex class, it would also reduce the amount of coding and energy that ANet may need to supply.
/signed for a regex or client-based text filter.

You have some really good suggestion there, i will put the on my first post if its okeey with you, and ofc you will have your name after the suggestion
bilateralrope
People spam because they feel its the easiest, if not the only (every time I've compared a guru auction with the price check for it, the guru auction is always less), way to sell their stuff for the price they want. Implementing filters is just treating the symptoms, when the real problem is the lack of a trade system. If there was no reason to spam, then expect the majority of the spam to stop quickly, most of the rest will stop once people tell them to use the trade system, and the ignore list should be able to handle those that still spam.
/unsigned as ANET should be working on a trade system, which should make this suggestion irrelevant. I will sign this only if someone shows ANET saying that they don't plan to give us a trade system, or if a trade system doesn't reduce the spam enough for me.
