RH is paying you for Elite Skill Locations

We have created a concept to get the GW public to help us create our own Elite Skills location database. We know there are others out there but we want our own and we plan to pay out over 200k in prizes to get it.

We are offering this contest as a fun way to make some in game gold!
So, start collecting screen shot locations for all the elite skills in Guild Wars.


Some of the RULES: Do not submit any images just copied from another website. You may use them for a reference of course but we want an original image.


We require you include:

Your IGN (In Game Name)
A map of the skill location
Skill Profession
Skill Name
Boss Name
Any special condition to capping the skill.
Example: Must be in mission

Image size no smaller than 450 X 350 and no larger than 550 x 450.
Image must be save as a .jpg in the format below in lower case (class-skill-boss_name)

Example: dervish-avatar_of_dwayna-acolyte_of_dwayna.jpg

What is the point of this exactly? Guildwiki already has all of the skill locations, so this seems kind of retarded to me

I will not question your reason for doing it as some like doing things for development sake, but really all this information is already easily accessible. Guildwiki is great, but Aylee Sadai's Mapping Out program is even better.

In order to win do I have to have submitted the most skill locations? The first to submit a skill location? Per class, all classes? Your post is missing pertinent details.

Geez, this forum has more gripers than any other forum I've seen.

What's the big deal? So the guy wants to make a database? And he's willing to pay for help making it. Nobody is forcing you to participate or use his database.

I agree that I probably won't use it, but will still rely on Wiki and the Elite listing at Xenon, but who knows. Perhaps his new database will be so great that it will win me over.

Let him build it if he wants to. It's not hurting you and you have no reason to flame him other than pure meanness. If you feel it's pointless then just ignore the post and go back to Wiki.

It's not a "I feel it's pointless". It is pointless. There are already at least 4 excellent sources that I use for GW information online, and all of them have all skill locations, boss information, maps, etc. It's more a matter of trying to save the guy time before he starts a project that is 1) huge, and 2) unnecessary.

No, it's not pointless. The point is he/they want to do it. Does he need any other reason? No, so as TheRaven said if you dont see the point ignore it.

take it as a game and a chance to earn some gold just for the fun of doing it, hey you could even do this as an extra activity for your guild, as long as I know they have not stated even if this database will be public or did they?

Legitimate maybe... logical... no. Why pay people to do things that you can just scrounge from another site? Its not like your gonna get sued by Guildwiki for using there material... Unless you start passing it off as your own and charging people to see it anyway.

My reasoning...

1 - I/we can afford to do this... 200k on my own an additional backing from other guild members if needed.

2 - Our site is newly redesigned and we are trying to put out a few good resources and generate some traffic. Yes, you are right, Wiki has it all. I LOVE Wiki and all there efforts. It is the first place I look for most anything. Until, I find something that may be in a format a little more to my liking.

If you know what you want this site above was the fastest answer. Unfortunately it hasn't been kept up to date as fast as it could be.
They also ask for location donations from the public but it is without any incentive which I will talk about later.

So why stop at Wiki. Now, not to down play the site at all but how many times have you tried accessing something on the site and it takes forever to load? Or doesn't load at all? It's obvious there are bandwidth issues or something that I am sure is due to the massive volume of traffic. I accept and respect that the traffic is huge. Just this morning I was attempting to access the Elite Skills map locations on Guru. I got server database error messages, the site was down at the time.

Going with most of your thinking... Wiki's got it, go to Wiki... Where you gonna go when Wiki is down? Hopefully, just maybe, someone will put our list in their favorites and you have a cool backup resource or maybe even a primary resource for elite skills locations if you find that you like our format (but wait until it is complete to make any assumptions on that at this time).

3- Is incentive. I want your help for the most part and I am willing to pay for it. We want to basically donate this gold to the GW community and this is the guideline we are setting to do it. It is to do it for fun. Maybe make a name for our little guild and get some people going through our site as well. Some people may even be interested in join our guild if there looking for a PVE Guild who uses Ventrilo. Many guild advertise, Hall, Cape, Website... blah blah blah. We are all the same. With that, I/we are trying to make our site stand out a little in a few areas.

If you play with any type of photoshop program (even MS Paint) and have the area open on your map, you can spend 30 min - 1 hour and pump out 15 - 20 locations (20 pays 10k)

I guess until some people see how easy it actually is I will just keep doing it on my own. Ill get the list one way or another. BTW once people do (if they do) show interest and I stop getting the locations on my own. I actually WANT to pay you for your assistance in building this portion of our site.

One last thing...
This list does not give you a map to the actual skill locations in many instances. If it does, I am doing some thing wrong. It tells you all about it an where to get it, who's got it but in many cases it doesn't "show" you exactly where to look for it.

It does. Click on the boss name it shows where the boss is.

Hmmm... I can afford to do something like this as well... actually I can afford 2 million if I really wanted to (eBay, not saying that I am, just could). BUt that doesnt make me need to do it.

Anyway, as you are referring to a (former) great site Xennon, I have to say there is probably a reason why that site has died out. Namely Guildwiki. It updates way faster then any website maintained by some group/person.
But you do know where the skilllocations are, through guildwiki. And there are actually maps available on this website as well. If you do not want to directly copy information. I am sure you can use the information from the databases to fabricate your own maps.

A simple problem solving works on guildwiki; if a boss has an elite, but you dont know where the elite is, look for where the boss is... Its the same thing, so it does have every elite's location, because its just a click away, on each boss, depending where you want to cap it.

Cain, stop crying ebay ffs. Pipedream, if you want it ASAP you can copy GuildWiki data and put it in your own format or w/e as long as you attribute and link to GuildWiki as the original source (http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/GuildWiki:About).

Best advice ever.

Sites live or die based on how up-to-date their information is.

If anything, you'd be better off mirroring wiki - wiki still has EVERYTHING, not just a subset. Want to know related skills, builds that use it, changes, everything is cross-linked with complete history. This is where it's at.

Mirror wiki. That will be your best contribution. Other than that, it's your money, and other people's time, and everyone is free to do what they want.

But GW isn't the place to be anymore, and investing into such vast repositories at this point is redundant.
