Protection software is allowing all connections, all firewalls are allowing, and the game runs fine...
But I cant get past the log in screen...
The Info hub on the right side of the screen never shows- and after licking the log-in screen I get an error 58...
This started after the update to prepare for the festival...
I've tried everything short of reinstalling the client
Error 58's after 2/14/07 update

Hmm, it logged me on straight away.

Just a heads up- I did an -image and now it lets me in...
I have no idea...

What did you do? I tried something new, and now I'm getting the error 58.

I think any time after a largish update and/or when an event is being held, there will generally be log in issues. I have had a few 58's lately, but never more than twice in a row. I reset my router occasionally to be on the safe side.

I'm more or less computer illiterate- I can get everything to work, but dont' know much about the technical aspects. How do I reset my router?

Looks like I jumped the gun there a bit...
Its still happening- though its off and on...
Err'58...
Could this have been caused by one of the recent updates?

Also, there is usually a software control that can do this as well if you are so inclined.
As for "-image" ...here's the lowdown:
Create a shortcut on your desktop for Guild Wars.
Right click on it and select Properties...
Edit the Target line to exactly read:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image
Now, when ever you want to ensure that you have a completely updated copy of Guild Wars, use this shortcut. Don't use it for regular play sessions because it won't start the game.
Run it before bedtime or work, it may take awhile, but your game will be updated and no longer need to constantly stream updates while you play.
Additionally, it will reduce load screen wait times when zoning.

-You may want to defrag it..
-You may want to "refreshen it" <see below>
This will also "trim" down bloated DAT's
To get a clean Gw.dat do this:
(Make sure you have enough disk space)
1.) Run gw.exe -image to get all files. (If your installation of Guild wars is already up to date, skip this step)
2.) Then copy these folders and files (as indicated) from the GuildWars CD into a NEW folder ("GWINSTALL") on your hard drive:
Setup.exe
\Data
\Data\cdrom.ini
\Data\config.ini
\Data\Gw
\Data\Gw\GwSetup.exe
3.) After the files and folders are copied modify \Data\cdrom.ini to this:
[CDROM]
Program=Guild Wars
Chapter=
Disc=1
4.) Move your Gw.dat file to the "GWINSTALL" \Data\Gw folder
5.) Uninstall Guild Wars from Windows Control Panel
6.) Reinstall Guild Wars from the copied files on your hard drive by running setup.exe

Yeah, I defragged a couple of months ago, I I check it each download to make sure its still in order
The Dat file is fine...
I think it just has something to do with my ISP and the fact that theres an event going on...
I dont seem to be having too much trouble with it today, but we'll see..
It's only 5am

Yeah I get this every now and again, even before the update.
I just reset the router, but after it resets give it a minute or so dont try to get into gw straight away or you will get error 58 again, works for me.
