Getting the most of GW?
falseblue
OK, I just got the game, yesterday, I'm lvl 5, and I would really like to know how to get the most out of my GW: Prophecies. I plan to play the entire PvE, and would really like to get into PvP, but have no clue
So, help a noob, and tell him. Please.

Welcome to GW!!!
How to get the most out of the game?
1. Don't sell any DYES until after you've been through the acadamy.
2. Don't go to the acadamy until you've reached level 7 or 8. (it gets a bit harder afterwards)
3. Try different professions on for size. You've got 4 character slots to play with, but most people who PvP keep one slot set aside for making PvP characters.
4. Check out these threads for info on builds, events, and all the stuff that goes on with GW.
5. Check out guildwiki for lots and lots of information on the game.
6. Don't be anti-social, join a guild and have fun. (Having a "cool cape" is no guarentee of a "cool guild")

How do you tell what a "good/cool" guild is?

Prophecies is the largest and most lengthy of the three PvE campaigns; there's plenty to keep you occupied. If you haven't already, check out guildwiki. It's a veritable trove of information, especially good for new players.
One positive thing for you is that the storyline in GW is fairly linear. You'll notice that in your quest log, some quests are notated as being "primary." These are the ones that help progress you through the game; everything else is just extra. Don't ignore the regular quests, though...they're a great means of unlocking new skills and gaining xp.
After you enter the academy you'll have access to a variety of PvP formats. Most people start out in the random arenas; they're less serious and/or organized than the other types.
Oh, one more thing...when looking for a decent guild, don't join any that you see spamming a recruitment message in town. It's okay to fly solo for a while until you encounter other people whose playstyles and attitudes complement your own.
Best of luck in your pursuits.

If your from Europe and especially UK, I'll give you some examples, have a look at my guild here or if your from the US of A then check out my good buddy Caerics guild (the head of our alliance) here, for some examples of guilds and websites/forums, have a look around, there are plenty of guilds recruiting here and on other forums
We both take on new players and both guilds are Hybrids, meaning we do both PvP and PvE... If not, have a look around, party with people and see what you like, experiment and ask questions, and don't be put down by some of the idiots that play, trust me, you'll get plenty of "n00b!" when you ask some questions, as some think that everyone's been playing for a couple of years like a few of us have
Anyway, if you need a hand, send me a message and I'll give you a hand, I have a character in Presear thats there to stay and 7 characters the other side that help new players

hey Lonesamurai you cant recruit outside of the recruiting thread. might want to edit that before an admin gets to you.

Also the next set of armor is not free, so you'll want to wait untill you have around 2k before you move on.
A few other things, if you can save spider webs untill you sear (the academy mission), you can get an expert salvage kit, the webs salvage into silk, which has better value than glitter.
You can save your self some money by salvaging clothing drops into leather and cloth, swords and axes into iron; 25 should be enough to get started.

I'd have put an Ozzie guild in too for a comparison, but I can't remember the name of the last one I dealt with

Also when choosing a guild, find out where their focus is. PvP, PvE, Alliance battles (a factions thing), or a bit of everything. You don't want to join a guild that doesn't do what you're interested in.

holababe
CORPG
The difference is basically that there is more orientation on competing with people, rather than RPG-style adventuring
