Some way for your teammates to see your ping (Latency)
master_of_puppets
A ping feature has been implemented somewhat recently but to the best of my knowledge there is no way you can see someone else's ping, yeah they can tell u but still. Recently I have been getting way more lag than usual and its very irritating. I think some kind of thing should be implemented so you can alert your teammates u are lagging without having to type/ say anything.
Maybe:
-you can ctrl+click the little circle and it would say "My current Ping is X"
-if you are getting lots of lag, so if ur circle is red a red circle pops up beside your name in the party list
-they can make a new window u can open and in it u can see everyones ping on ur team
something like that
NOTE: not in towns/outposts, only in explorable and combat areas

Excellent idea. I play my monk 95% of the time and nothing is more frustrating than being stuck in a lag-spike while your team gets mowed down. This is the kind of stuff they should be implementing instead of giving us mini-pets in outposts.

Edited the title slightly to try and preemptively stop the rush of people who can't read original posts before making one of their own and would inevitably fill this thread with "WTF THEY CAN ALREDY SEE WEN U PING LOL NUB" trash.
I love this idea. It'd be amazingly useful for just about everybody, with no real downsides except the whole spamming thing that might happen (though unlikely).

/signed, excellent idea!! Same reason as said before, nothing wrong that having your ded team raging you while your swearing at your modem.
Viruzzz
it benefits the team greatly.
the only downside i can think of it people who are either stuck on lowspeed internet or just have horrible ping times for some other reason will be discriminated against when selecting party members

Sending even more info from the server to your comp, back to the server, then to your teammates would only add more latency. Kinda defeats the purpose of it.
Faer
In theory though, it wouldn't take up any more bandwidth than a manually written message of the same length, so I don't see how that'd really be a problem.

I'm ctrl+clicking on the red circle all the time :P

If you're seriously lagging, the lag where not only your response is delayed, but you are unable to perform any action for 5-30 seconds, then pinging your lag would be delayed 5-30 seconds as well.
By the time anyone knew, it'd be too late.

As long as it only shows in combat areas, it's fine for me.
mqstout
Absolutely not. It will then only become another feature used to discriminate during party-making.

How do I make my post at least 12 characters long I wonder?
I'm off to go ponder that particular problem...

But I would say no because there are people that have 56k because cable or dsl is not available to them so that's all they got. So this would instantly eliminate those players and not only that as Antheus said, if you're lagging, people will find out through your lack of movement and talking... Or they can just consider you afk and then leave you. Same results.
But this'll still cut out people that have orange pings (medium lag) and people will say forming a Non-Lagging group. Now, I generally have green or orange, but I have orange a lot because I don't have all of the internet to myself. I share with my family.
But all and all, this is going to really separate people with good/okay/bad pings. It's like in the Half-Life games, if you have a ping over 120, you're kicked! Whoopee! I personally hate that.

well if it is not seen in towns and outposts not a problem. I HAVE 56K AND I SIGNED, really not a big deal.

bleh either way, if they want to kick you then fine... probably noobs anyway. i have to deal with worst stuff... "GLF RANK 4 NUKER" "im rank 3 but i am quite skilled, i do gvg more" "NO R3, R4 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB" .... so yes this is the least of my worries

I'm with you on the mini pet thing, which I think might even be the result of a bit more lag than mentioned. That's a major issue with alot of the suggestions people post.
/sign with conditions.
The ctrl+ping click comes up in red or something, because even with armor and weapon sets, hit points and all that, if it's normal, people will fake it.
Not that I had any right doing so, but I was being ran somewhere and for kicks has my guy set up for 55(at lvl 17) an no one believed my 1 hit point, and it infuriated me.....
Also, It would have to be set up in a way so that it's only a notification that the player uses to notify his team.
I don't want to not be able to pug a mission because my ping is 150-300, which is good enough .....
What I'm getting at but lacking the words for is that I don't want to see leet discrimination based on ping rates. I've been booted from FPS rooms for pinging more than two digits, and would hate to see that become prevalent here.
Maybe you could set it up so that it's an automatic thing, and when your ping skyrockets it notifies the team. You set a limit in options and if it climbs above that, a notification is sent.
Player X's ping limit is 150, and his ping is currently 4,897.
This is by no means a final suggestion, just trying to refine the idea a bit, without adding discrimination.
tenshi_strife
that seems resonable to me... and worth while

/not signed - too many people would be left out, even if they had a brief lagspike due to a bad hop. This is just asking for more people to fight in game instead of play together as a team.
However! If there was an option that was enabled by default that said, "Do not show my ping to other players." then perhaps this could be added.

please note that unlike in FPS rooms, in GW you cant kick people out of missions and combat areas

I didn't read the newest posts , but i read the start before , i remember someone saying that if you have to do something to let your party members know that your lagging, then that message will be lagged.
Suggestion : Just make it simple, put a small dot next to everyones name maybe in party window or whatever ( optional) so it just shows red green or orange.

Agyar
How long would it be before PvP groups starting kicking or demanding vacation of players with 'sub-par' pings. I can imagine the requirements for joining a HA team quickly changing from 'LF rank 5+++ BoA sin' to 'LF rank 5+++ <200ms boA sin' or some such.
Australians (amongst others) already get the short end of the stick with higher-than-average pings, I'd hate to see something like this misused as a method of determining suitability for groups.
Of course this is quite a grim take but the first thing that came to mind. Perhaps, if the necessity here is just to indicate when a team member is experiencing a lag spike, to show some kind of indicator beside their name when their ping exceeds something substantial (1000ms perhaps?).
