So, I'm curious as to what the main site is hinting at with this announcement:

Help collaborate in creating a feast to please the Celestial Pig, and undertake new quests, too. Win sparklers, and poppers, and rockets, oh my! Kamadan and Lion's Arch will be decorated for the festival, but Shing Jea Monastery is the place to be on Sunday, February 18th, where special events take place every three hours starting at 12:01 a.m. PST (8:01 GMT), with the final event beginning at 12:01 PST (8:01 GMT) on Monday, February 19. The event will run through Noon PST (20:00 GMT) that same day. Enjoy!

Specifically the bolded part. Notice it mentions the "special events take place every three hours", i.e. the arrival of the celestial pig, and the "final event" as two separate things. Supposedly, this "final event" started 30 minutes ago and will run till noon PST today. Any ideas what it is? Is there anything different that anyone can notice?

That means the final special event I think.

Also they mean the event as a whole (beetle racing, collectors etc.) will run through noon PST today.

dunno.. what is with anet's wording sometimes.. it seems to confuse people.. lol.. heaps of people at this moment are debating one another in shing jea about the final event vs blah blah.. :\

lol yeah. rumors are speading about a HUGE finale event that's going to take place. matter of fact, some people are saying there's going to be a finale on monday 12:00 pm PST. weird how rumors "mutate." lol

Well, it was worded rather awkwardly and I missed the opportunity to get a mask because I thought I could get it today.

This final event wording sorta catches your attention. Guess I should check wiki and scour it every time I log in rather than read the main website. Sure, in retrospect, reading over the text I now see what they meant, but I actually have a job and I do work a lot of weekends, so I don't always have the time to read everything in detail cause I just wanna play. I just feel kinda like in the situation where you get screwed over for missing the fine print at the bottom of a contract.

Admittedly, it certainly isn't the end of the world to have missed it, but there goes my small joy from having all mask from all events....guess next time the events won't be able to capture my imagination as much as it did before.

Gailespeak FTC* yet again. Hurah! This time she really went out of her way to make it sound like there was some special closing event. I still can't say there isn't, but four hours in, it doesn't look like anything is happening; besides an update that hasn't been explained.

This is an accurate assessment of what A-NET was trying to say. (just combine the blurb on the web site to the blurb on your log-in screen)

Somebody makes this same exact thread for every event. There has never been any special super finale since the game went retail.

Yes, because every time it can be interpreted as though the last event is going to be different than the rest. "with the final event beginning at 12:01 PST (8:01 GMT) on Monday, February 19. The event will run through Noon PST (20:00 GMT) that same day." That makes it sound as though there is a 12 hour event on the last day of the festival, since "The event" would most logically be referring to the event she just talked about, not the Celebration as a whole. Is it really so hard to say "The Celestial Pig's Last visit will be at 12:01 AM PST on Monday the 19th" and "The New Year's Event will end at Noon PST on Monday the 19th?"

I agree. Just a different variety of mini beetle. That way, the top 100 ones are still rare but everyone who played gets a piece of the fun

i remember this happened with the dragon fesitval. It seemed that the finale was on the 5th but thats when it had ended. i noticed the day before they added a clarification stating that the finale was on the 4th

They should better introduce a collector for the Lunar Tokens. I won over 1000 of them at rollerbeetles, then turned first 200 into fortunes and got myself a pig. But theres nothing to do with the remaining ones, as I dont want more pigs or any fireworks to take my priceless storage space. I want something worth keeping or just consuming, even those blue sugar drinks would do. Standing in LA and redeeming those tokens through paper/rock/scissors for long long hours is not an option.

Some previous events had some kind of a collector added after the finale, like last wintersday, so why not do this again?

No, it's not confusing. It's human nature. Any time you say something to more than one person, it's sure to be interpreted differently by each person. Imagine how difficult it is to put something on a website and not have it misunderstood.

People parse everything Gaile says as if she were testifying at a murder trial. Last I checked I didn't pay for the special event when I bought my collector's edition of each game. ANet is not contractually obligated to offer these things, so I have a tendency to look at this as if my glass were half full rather than half empty.

So until I start paying a fee that even approaches what people pay for WoW, I will certainly not stare at that gift horse's mouth.

Thanks Anet for doing something unexpected and entertaining.

And so you're in luck :P There's a collector now in Shing Jea that takes 5 Lunar Tokens and gives a Red Gift Bag for it!

I had my first vision of Gaile today :P it looked like a mob of ppl standing around her and asking her questions. Gaile then spoke and confirmed that ANet was clear that the 12am PDT time was the conclusion; I posted a screeny of the conversation on the Official Festival Guide Sticky in this forum.
