Alright I did check and I couldn't find anything with this suggestion, but if I did skip over something I'm sorry.

Well almost every other mmorpg has large scale battles, whether it be wows 40 raids, or dark age of camelot realm vs. realm. Or even everquest's huge dungeon raids. I know guild wars isn't your typical mmorpg but still I do feel it would add another element to guild wars since 12 vs. 12 isn't what I would call a war.

Just my thoughts

Nice in theory, but not as easy to implement as you might think, (without rewriting the entire game that is). Not to mention, skills are balanced between professions based on currently available party sizes. A rebalancing of skills would effectively kill small group battles. I vote no.

I also vote no, with the current skill balance larger parties would get too powerful, coordinating a 12 people group is already something that isn't easy if your don't have some sort of voice chat so i don't even want to think about 40 people PUGs.

I believed that Factions had already toy with the idea of large number of players in the mission, in form of luxon & kurzick teaming up. With the total of 16 players, 8 on each side.

As for 40 in 1 team the balance will be a big problem, in term of both monster mobs,the size of the area, skills etc

it would be cool, but I cant see when and where we would need or use more then 8 players in PvE.

Unless they added stupidly hard missions which require 16 players, I cant see any other way. But those missions suck because you rely too strongly on the other side being good, or even existing.

Nice idea, but this is not WoW. ANet seems to have enough problems with lag during the 12v12 battles. If they were to implement 40v40 there would be massive lag. Their servers don't appear to be able to handle such a huge battle. Also 40v40 is NOT a war. A war is technically a collection of battles over an extended period of time. Anyways I say no. If you want 40v40 battles head over to WoW.

really guildwars is really about balance and strategy, you have to think and use a correct build to succed, in 40 v 40 matchs.... kinda throws that out the window..... can you say 40 meator showers anyone..... seriously 16 v 16 is already hard to use stratgy with so really we do not need to go bigger.

well i do know most builds are for smaller groups but I just fail to see how you could never coordinate that when other games can.

and don't tell me to go to wow just because i think that having the possiblity of larger groups would be a nice addition

Games would never happen. You know how long you have to wait for a 12 on 12 man AB battle to start (stupid timer restart)? Imagine if you needed 4 times as many people to do it.

This would mainly be for organized guilds not just random people. I mean I know people who play guild wars don't like to be thought of as normal mmorpg people but this is such a big deal in most games. Like: everquest, everquest 2, dungeons and dragons online, lineage, lineage 2, and a lot more.

How about basing it on the fact that WoW and GW have almost nothing in common when it comes to PvP. WoW has completely ridiculous skills that would be nothing more than completely unbalanced in GW. Why? Because GW doesn't have cooldowns lasting several hours/days (or at least i've been told WoW does).
This game is about balance... just look at Diablo 2, another blizzard game. The balance on it was beyond awful, if it even existed. Having 40 players would just be a race to see who could deal enough damage faster. You'd have to completely rebalance skills. You'd have things like Aegis chains to make it last forever. Heal Party been spammed non-stop. Healing Hands/Seed practically everywhere. 100% permanent Shadow Form builds, they have counters but not if theres *that* many of them. Not to mention things like a constant Incoming. Course they could split it up like they did with AB... but then we'd be playing a more unbalanced AB. Doesn't sound like fun to me.

Its just NOT possible to balance skills for PvE, 6man HA, 8man GvG AND 24-40fragfests.

Not every game needs to be exactly like the other. Many like GW exactly because it's not like something else.

And just as everyone else pointed out, it breaks balance. Even 12 vs. 12 during preview was unbalanced so they broke it into 3x4.

So long story short, GW's PvP doesn't support more than 8 people per group. Even at 8 it becomes exploitable, which leads to nerfs, and then crying ensues.

This is where you are wrong ANet has problems while in town. IMO ANet needs to fix their servers before adding more features to Guild Wars be it changing to different servers and closing GW down for a week or Just do some matnence.

And whoever wants 40vs40 go play WoW.
