I'm not sure if I need a bit of advice, or a good belt across the face, but...
I had the bright idea of trying a Monk/Elementalist who specialized in smiting and spiking. That goes against a lot of what a Monk is built for, I know, but it was one of those "it seemed a good idea at the time" moments. The plan was to use a thus-far fairly successful combo of elementalist PBAoE's (particularly Flame Djinn's Haste and either Inferno or Flame Burst) in combination with similarly-styled smiting spells for less dangerous areas (and either healing or protection prayers for defense in higher-level areas) in order to fashion a sort of Monky suicide bomber.
Yes it's silly, I'm sure. But I still want to try it, just for the fun of it. My question is, does anyone have any advice on how to make it moderately or even completely useful? I realize energy management will likely be a pain either way, and should probably use an Elementalist base for this, but that aside, is there any suggestion on how to salvage this on a Monk?
Cunning plan, you say...

There's no way possible to split your Attribute points effectivly, into Healing, Protection, Smiting, and then Fire magic.
Other than that, I don't have a full idea of what your trying to do, so I'll leave it up to others.

Oh, I'm fully aware of that. I also know this won't have a chance in hell of working without another monk in the party, and quite, quite well aware that it's impractical and probably just a bad idea in general. I never really said it wasn't, but the point is to try it to see what it can do, and just how bad an idea it may be.
To clarify what I was contemplating, though, my points would be spread, ideally, between Fire Magic and one or two other attributes. If I were, say, tearing around Istan, or Shing Jea, or Ascalon or Kryta, I could probably get away with Fire Magic and Smiting Prayers. If I were in the Fire Chain, Desolation, or Jade Sea, however, we might wanna rethink that a bit and go Fire/Protection or Fire/Healing, with a little bit in Divine Favor either way. The idea would be your basic suicide bomb: run into a group of enemies, cast all the PBAoE's, then run like hell. Wash, rinse, repeat... or just die horribly.
I'm just asking for any potential advice to lessen the 'dying horribly' part.

My monk is my 6th character i am currently working on getting through Nightfall.
Because of my erratic gameplay schedule, i have to hench/hero a lot. For fun i have been playing with a Smite/Inspiration build lately, working descently well, descent dmg, interrupts, slight protection... heh its just fun to play...
[skill]Signet Of Judgment[/skill][skill]Bane Signet[/skill][skill]Signet of Rage[/skill] -or- [skill]Reversal of Damage[/skill][skill]Mantra of Inscriptions[/skill][skill]Power Drain[/skill][skill]Balthazar's Aura[/skill] -or- [skill]Symbol of Wrath[/skill] -or- [skill]Leech Signet[/skill][skill]Ether Feast[/skill]
I change up skills nearly every zone just to try out new variations... Experimenting is fun!
cheers!

What I gather is that you want to use some Ele skills in a party to do some damage am I right so far?If I am I would advise against that as no one wants to see even another Monk use those skills in a Party as they will be really the only Monk.I would stick to heal or protect and let the Ele do the Eles work. The only Ele skill you could use is GoLE.

I tried something similar with an Ele/W.
I used Fire PBAoE for damage, a shield and some defensive skills.
I finished Prophecies with this character and what I found is that the character can certainly dish out the damage but as soon as it becomes the focus for the monsters you best run.
flame Burst is definately the winnning skill I used, it does good damage in a an area and has a quickish recharge time.
The adjacent foes AoE skills were terrible, Id often only get 1 enemy with them.
Hope that helps.

cheers! Ive used a similar build on my smite monk but with less interupts :
[skill]Signet Of Judgment[/skill][skill]Bane Signet[/skill][skill]Signet of Rage[/skill][skill]Reversal of Damage[/skill][skill]Leech Signet[/skill][skill]Divine Healing[/skill][skill]Mantra of Inscriptions[/skill][skill]Watchful Spirit[/skill]
and occassionally ill change to:
[skill]Signet Of Judgment[/skill][skill]Bane Signet[/skill][skill]Signet of Mystic Wrath[/skill][skill]Mantra of Inscriptions[/skill][skill]Divine Healing[/skill][skill]Live Vicariously[/skill][skill]Watchful Spirit[/skill][skill]Retribution[/skill]
This is more useful in areas with no or few Enchant strippers

There use to be a smite build but it was an Ele/mo and worked quite effectly as long as you have a warrior in your party. I can't remember all the skills and they are probably outdated anyway. Maybe somewhere here has an updated version. I'm not sure what ele skills were used or if it was just for all the energy but it worked and was fun to play.
