Trapping with upkeep AoE spells?

I wouldn't mind seeing a caster class that has AoE spells that do not target foe or ally, but rather a location of your choice. Imagine clicking any spot of terrain on your compass and dropping a dormant aoe spell there. You can wait until a group of mobs passes that spot before activating it (kind of like disengaging an upkeep enchantment), causing elemental damage like a nuker, or condition damage like a trapper to all targets on that spot. Imagine also an aoe hex or even an aoe heal or party buff working like this. Enemies won't be able to tell where these dormant spells are dropped, so this would add a neat twist to pvp. Of course, drawbacks might include having only a maximum of three dormant spells down at one time, or having your dormant spells activate if you do not keep its energy upkeep going, or maybe after five minutes, all your laid spells automatically disappear, or maybe introduce health upkeep!. This I believe would synergize well with all known job classes! I'm not sure what this job class would be called, nor what this type of spell would be called, but it sure sounds neat to me! I know planting things and watching enemies walk into them is great fun for all those who've tried trapper or nuker.

Not only could this be brutally overpowered for spiking an entire group simultaneously... but its posted one forum too deeply nested. Should be in the Sanitarium main.

Traps offer this in a balanced form. It would be nice to have an alternative to traps, but a balanced one would be better, and it would likely need to involve a balanced feature.

What if enemies COULD see the traps? That way this job class would serve as a shepherd of sorts... moving enemies and allies around like a field commander? I don't see how this would be overpowered in pvp with only three traps maximum on a map at a time. So, a team of 8 spell trappers does not mean 24 spell traps but rather 3. And let's eliminate the ability to drop these babies in the area of your character. So this is strictly long range trapping. And, gamesshoes, Trappers have traps to be sure, but none that can be disengaged like an upkeep spell.

Well, for traps that activate whn you chose them to, I think ritualist should get several new chanelling skills that give ashes to drop that deal damge in an area(there is 2 of those right now, want more with more diverse effects like traps)

In that I also say that you need to be where your trap goes, rangers can leave after setting it, but they still need to reach the trapped area.
There are a bunch of trick I can think of while using ranged traps(wonder if you could use them to blast Markis off his bridge...)

If you are not easely interupted while setting the trap and even more chose when to activate it, you should definatly be restricted to stay in the area of the trap.

Trapping at range is what I feel is unbalanced, traps that activate when you want them to is not that much of a overpower(yes, I know that is not a word)
I say ritualist drop ashes make good self activated traps, but I'm shure some1else could come up with a much better idea of how to do it.

What about making exsisting AoE and DoT spells more functional and involved? We already have Wards, DoT and Area of Effect attacks. Having a maintained effect isn't a trap, and is a feature which should be involved in the improvement of exsisting DoT.

Moreover, this belongs in suggestion threads, not Class Conception. If your just going to suggest a feature you should have offered it in the "Things missing from exsisting professions" thread, and known that this has already been discussed in feasible means.
