Death Leveling Question

When you are death leveling (letting a baddie kill you and level itself up), does the particular enemy that you are letting level up stay at that level? Like if it was level 1, and you do death leveling with it and it levels up to level 20, will it stay level 20 permanently? Or if you leave the area or log out and log back in, will it be level 1 again? Thanks!

Every time you zone out and zone back in, the zone (region) is re-set. If you have death-levelled a baddie to level 20 and then enter an outpost, the baddie will be re-set to whatever level it was before you started the death-levelling.

Isn't that rather obvious?

If you kill an enemy and leave the area then return, hasn't it respawned as it was before? Only quests taken by the party seem to make any difference to an explorable area... Everything else returns to default values once you leave and re-enter.

So then how is it possible to get the Legendary Defender Of Ascalon title by death leveling, if every time you exit the zone and reenter, the baddie is back to level 1?

By death leveling it every time. That's why it takes so long, and doesn't require any sort of skill.

How long does it take to level up the monster to level 20? And once you kill it at level 20, do you have to death-level it up to 20 again?

I haven't done this (for time reasons), but it is well-known that this method takes hours and hours.....it's usually done by going afk for a day (while you're at work or school). You pull a monster to a res shrine, strip your armour, then let the monster kill you. You res at the shrine, and if the pull was good the monster will still be agro range of the shrine, so it will kill you again. When you come back later, the monster should be levelled, and if you know what you're doing you should be able to kill the monster at level 20, giving you lots of xp. Repeat the next day.

well, I hit it up on some moas last night. For some reason they didn't all lvl right. I had 3 moas, when i came back, 8hrs later, I only had 2 moas, one managed to get away. in 8hrs they had only reached these lvls, 12, 14, 9. So man this will take forever.

Moa Birds and Spiders only level one at a time. Only if you death level the Charr in the Northlands when you pull patrol groups do they level together. There is a whole process to death leveling Charr and there are a few guides out there on how to do it. Charr Death leveling is much faster, but it is complicated, takes a while to set up. There are people in Old Ascalon that will teach you how to do it. Some for free, others want to charge to teach you. Or you can read the guide and trial and error your way throught it. It requires pulling multiple Charr patrols to a place they get "stuck" at and then pulling them back to the rez shrine to kill off the guards and monk. Then you have them death level you at the shrine. As they are already level 7 and 8 and are in patrol groups(so they level together) you can get experience points a lot faster.

I found that the rez shrine outside the Barridan Estate to be best for the easiest (but slowest) method of death-leveling. The reason your monsters leveled all over the place is that you pulled them out of their patrol area and they wandered away from the rez shrine. The other ones in the area still attacked you and they took over getting experience.

If you want to have a reliable death level go outside the Baradin Estate and rezone back and forth until you have two spiders or birds that are in the area of the shrine. Attack them both, strip your armour and go afk for a few hours. Only one of them will level but with two or more of them attacking you, it will go faster. You can usually get them up to a level above you in about five or six hours, faster if you have two or more attacking you.

I find it more efficient to level them up to one level above you. If you are level sixteen and the monster is level 15 then you get 80 exp points. At 16 you get 100 experience points, and at 17 you get 120 experience points. It takes a long time to get the monster from level 17-20 but you only get sixteen experiences points each level for each level above one after your own.

This is a slow tedious process. After reaching level 16 I have been at it for over a month now trying to get to level 17 by setting it up at night to death level and killing the monster in the morning when I get up. Getting to Level 19 is still months away. At level 19 you do all your quests to get the max experience at the highest level and finish up your death leveling for another few weeks.

Some people make fun of the Legendary Defender of Ascalon title, others think it is an accomplishment. Who cares? It is a time-consuming title to get, and when I have mine, I will sport it for some time when I leave pre-searing.

A couple things to remember:

Don't go afk much longer than 8-10 hrs...you'll get kicked.

This is a great way to get a high-level moa bird pet (I have a level 18 I use to hunt charr with...my toon is only level 14)

Set up before bed, kill and set up again before work/school/unemployment line, kill and play game for an hour or two....rinse, repeat.

Charr patrols are quicker for death-levelling but take longer to set up...just one patrol with 3-4 charr (no shamen) are enough to decrease your levelling time by about two thirds...

Don't expect it to happen quickly, break the monotony by helping others or farming dyes...or play another toon for a day...don't give up!
