My personal advice:

Don't use Heal Signet. Stick with trolls if you want a self heal.

Replace Hunter's Shot with Screaming Shot, or even better, bring Burning Arrow {E}

Dual Shot really isn't worth bringing unless you bring a prep that does extra damage to each arrow (such as Kindle Arrows, Read the Wind, Glass Arrows, etc.)

Determined Shot is a bit too situational. Replace with Keen Arrow, Crossfire, or replace this skill slot with Burning Arrow {E} and leave Screaming Shot as your other attack skill.

Drop Throw Dirt for a rez.

Replace Whirling Defense with Natural Stride.

Drop your attributes in Tactics and raise Expertise to 12-14 (14 being what I would reccomend the most for an apply poison build).

Allthough I cant say im as experienced with rangers as Archon, there are a few things in his advice of which I dont agree:

- Keep whirling defense and dont take Natural stride.

- If this build is for PvE I would keep Throw Dirt

- Put the attribute points from tactics in Marksmanship instead of Expertise.

For the rest:

- Replace savage shot with distracting shot

Hopefully this will help you improve your build (allthough I hope I dont confuse you by giving some opposite advice as Archon)

Here is what I would say to bring:

Burning Arrow
Apply Poison
Savage Shot
Distracting Shot
Crossfire
Whirling Defense
Troll Ungent
Res

And in PvE I say Whirlin Defense > Natural Stride. Whirlin Defense does has have a 60 second cast time but as a ranger you shouldn't be taking too much aggro. I almost always have Whirling Defense on my bar and it is always there when I need it. I've never had problems with long recharge-PvE speaking.

It would help ENORMOUSLY if you could tell us what chapters you have access to, as it appears you only have Prophecies.

If you only have Prophecies, then I'd suggest:

[skill]Punishing Shot[/skill][skill]Savage Shot[/skill][skill]Penetrating Attack[/skill][skill]Hunter's Shot[/skill][skill]Throw Dirt[/skill][skill]Apply Poison[/skill][skill]Whirling Defense[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

If on the other hand, you have access to Nightfall:

[skill]Burning Arrow[/skill][skill]Savage Shot[/skill][skill]Distracting Shot[/skill][skill]Crossfire[/skill][skill]Throw Dirt[/skill][skill]Apply Poison[/skill][skill]Natural Stride[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

Now in the above builds, you'll notice I didn't include a self-heal and I set the build for a pure ranger. I'm not really fond of either Troll Ungent in PvE settings, or 4v4 PvP as it's much to slow to use as a combat heal, and you've plenty of time inbetween most fights to regenerate health.

There is also plenty of room to customize the above builds. Throw Dirt is an Optional skill, and it can be repalced with something like Flail or Mending Touch. If you wanted to drop one of the interrupts in the second build, I'd suggest dropping distracting first. Attack skills can be switched in an out, depending on what you wanted to do.

i always use expertise in accordance to the most expensive skill i use... if im gonna use a 15 energy skill i will use 15 expertise to drop the cost to 5 or 6...

with 10 energy bring 14 expertise...

do not underestimate expertise...

since the only wilderness survival skill you use is troll you don't need that many points in that attribute... put the max in marks and expertise(using breakpoints) and the rest in WS...

or... if you mainly go PvE... trust your fellow healers and drop troll... and bring another blocking skill...or another attack skill or a spirit...

Thanks One last question, would this build also farm?

Probally not, rangers aren't the bets solo farmers. If you want to solo farm with a ranger then try trapping.

burning arrow + apply poison

mandatory combination if you want to farm... of course that to stay alive you need to take evasive skills... whirling defense + lightning reflexes + throw dirt + one other might give a good chance of surviving...

And yes, Apply Poison + Burning Arrow is enough to shut down melee bosses at every level - just learn how to kite.

Dude, don't bump 2 year old threads, especially when your reason for doing so isn't very relevant to the original topic.

Anyway, the answer is easily found on wiki -> http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kiting

Basic questions should go in the Questions and Answers forum. Any other Ranger stuff should go in the Ranger forum. Closed.
