Hey...i know we currently cant rename or get rid of Hero's pets.

Does Anet have some sort of timetable for this change?

I wouldn't say "soon" to this, actually. Frankly, it's going to be a while. There are a ton of things the designers want to work on, and this is one that requires more programming work than it might appear, and which is simply not at the top of the priority list at this time.

For instance, we feel it's much more important to add, improve, and polish pet controls, and that's something that's very much on the docket right now. The first round of controls have been implemented and are being tested now.

You ever have to clean up after a Moa bird?

While teaching her the fine art of Beastmastery, I thought it'd be cute to give my student, Jin, a black moa, to match my lovely red one. That's how I found out exactly how much I rely on the sounds my chicken makes to know when to use skills. ^_^ That black moa is driving me nuts!

Ah, well, I can wait a bit longer to give her a crab, instead.

On the subject of pet controls, I'm both elated and terrified.

I've spent a year and a half learning how to cope with the oddities of pet AI, and how to put their awesome skills to good use. Now I've got this nagging fear that when pets actually do what you WANT them to, people will decide that the beastmastery skills are overpowered, and my poor chicken will get whacked by the big nerf-hammer.

I think I'll try to smother my fears with food... I'll go feed Redfeather some juicy dwarves. That always cheers us up. ^_^

If they are re-doing pet controls.. it might be hinting towards the next chapter containing another "pet class"?

hmm I guess I can dream.

I dont think any significant nerf would be necessary even when pet controls are put into place. Just looking at hero control and hero A.I., I don't think it would be such a vast improvement that any nerf would be necessary.

Even with pet controls, pets will still most likely take a few seconds to switch targets, they will still most likely stand in AOE, attack with spiteful spirit on unless commanded not to do so. And timing any interrupts/knockdowns with pets is still going to be tricky.

Unless they are giving pets their own skillbar that they use on their own like heroes, I dont see a lot of pet skills that would need nerfing (i.e. uber pet interrupting with disrupting lunge).

Guess that is not the result people wanted to hear.

But Pet controls are long overdue, and to be remaining and dropping hero pets can be done later.

This is the problem with this game and this company. The lack of ability to rename, or get rid of a hero pet was an obvious oversight. This should have been a day 1 feature.

Those types of "bugs" or missed functionality should be addressed first and foremost as they are discovered. Storage as well, The xulani storage was designed at the very beginning to be adequate for a single campaign and 3-4 characters. But now we have 3 campaigns, 6-9 characters and it is woefully inadequate. It never changed. It wasnt a priority even though it is obviously broken.

But hey, look on the bright side. You got a mask and a pig.

Stop your damned troll baiting. There's already enough whining on this forum without you adding to it. Stick to the damned thread topic and stop trying to steer it into murky waters.

It sounds rather complicated to rename a pet for a hero. They'd need to implement a /heropetname command, you'd need to be able to specify which hero. As for getting rid of them, the pet trainer would have to know which hero's pet you wanted to get rid of. This feature sounds nice, I just hope they don't kill themselves over it (nearly blew my own mind thinking about all the stuff they'd have to do).

Someone hinted at a "summoner" class because of the rewording of Ritualist spirit skills. I think it would be pretty cool...I have in my mind an image of the D2 Druid, summoning multiple pets and allies. So maybe the pet control could also have something to do with it.

Gaile, has there been any thought or idea to further customize our heros, such as buying them specific armor sets and pieces (ex. decking Dunkoro with Kurzick monk armor, or Koss with Drok Platemail)?

If they are working on pet skills how about adding Heal Master & Res Master. Those would be a great additions.

Um dont they already have 2 healing options for pet skills, and I think one is a elite.

For some reason, the name 'Heal Master' and 'Res Master' just sounds so wrong to me... Maybe I just have a sick mind...

Anyways, if they do include pet controls, or improve it, they will have to apply the DP system to pets. (If they havn't already) I mean seriously, resurrect pet with 50% health? Disrupt, poison, knockdown, cripple, and the low energy costs... No DP?
Then throw in something like 'Res Master', lol

See? I told ya someone would start whining for a pet nerf, and the controls haven't even been implemented yet.

It's hard always being right. ^_^

Anyway, I'm going to cover this once AGAIN, but very, very succinctly... Give pets DP when you start giving a Warrior's sword DP. My pet is my weapon. It's bad enough they have DP in PvP due to some lame exploit build.

Oh, and on a side note, I AM extremely happy with my minipiggy and mask! ^_^

Or maybe something like the Warlock class from WoW maybe

They meant, giving the current pet to a pet tamer in order to charm a different pet. Right now, heroes aren't able to do that.

Unfortunately, pets do get dp in PvP. So, it is highly likely that they will include DP with the pet controls.

I can honestly say that naming my hero's pets is incredibly insignificant to me. I'd rather the design staff work on things more important to the game play rather than stupid little aesthetics. Good to see they have their priorities straight.

On a side note, it may be easier for the ArenaNet staff to utilize the Pet Tamers to name hero pets. Just an idea to save possible time if they do decide to work on it. This was actually my fiancee's idea.

If you listen to Guild Cast (episode 64) they have some answers from Anet employees (asked by someone they know that won the chance to go to Anet). One of the questions was about Hero Pets and the answer was (and I quote)

"Hero pet naming will not happen ... ever, although hero pet changing may happen but don't hold your breath"

My simple answer. Have heros talk to whoever you do and choose same options as you unless you flag them elsewhere. This would alos let heros get special mission specific skills

I'm only responding to this tangent on game updates because someone felt like making a trolling post less useful than the trolling itself, and I wish people would stop clogging up my time by doing that, please.

It's never really been fully adequate. Collector items save a lot of time and money, but I have to pick and choose (warden horns) which ones to gather. Even in the old days those slots were clogged up.

If you want to collect weapon skins, you have to purchase more character slots right now. And the item swapping with an already jammed full storage box is pretty awkward.

For PvE, I'd say it's issue #1.

You say that as if it's a bad thing that those fad builds are dead.

As someone who actually enjoys using pets as they were INTENDED, I would've liked to have seen all of the IWAY people taken out and whipped.

The stupid, stupid pet builds are dead, and decent beastmasters are still living with the ill effects they left in their wake (PvP pet DP).

I'll say it again, I doubt that the pet controls would be something so amazing that a nerf would be necessary for pets. Even if they implemented a command for a pet to stick onto one target and you're trying to time an interrupt, it's not as "easy" to do with a bow or melee weapon.

And one of the issues with pets is the response time. They take some time to switch targets. Unless they fix this issue along with pet controls, I'd say the improvements would be pretty minimal. Let's just say I'm not very impressed with Hero controls and A.I. to think that pet controls will be much different.

I no longer expect timely bug corrections from this company, considering that Thunderhead Keep bonus still glitches. The game has been out for almost 2 years and they can't fix a simple timing glitch that is very well known.

I would appreciate it if you don't argue with me on the THK glitch seeing as I run the mission and bonus at least twice a day.

By failing to fix the pet bug, arena net shows they don't understand how sentimental beastmasters are. We want pets for our heros that are personal. We want to be able to give them names to make the game more enjoyable for us.

We should have had pet controls from the beginning. At Arena Net's current rate of troubleshooting, we should be seeing hero pet options implemented around 2009.

Will you still be playing Guild Wars?

It's not a bug; it's just a feature they never intended to add and still haven't.

I was thinking if this will be for control only one pet? You know, heroes also could have pets.

Hahaha It's very possible, another rumor FTW! Maybe not a "pet class" but a summoned controllable pet, like a demon (WoW Warlock) or Cat (Lineage2 Warlock), so ... a WARLOCK is comming, did I guess?

EDIT: Hey! I have an idea: Controllable Flesh Golem! (with the new "pet" controls)

I was trying to dire pet level my hero pets and messed up on 1 of them, it didn't come out dire, and now it's useless for what I wanted to do. So should I now have to restart a whole new character because I can't get rid of my heroes pet? This is something that needs to be addressed very soon and I would hope they would see the issues of this sooner rather than later.
