heckler212
Alright guys i havent played with my ranger for awhile and just started playing with him again and though i would try a build out. So plz tell me what u think of this build
Ranger/elementalist
Marksmanship 12
expertise 10
wilderness 10
fire magic 9
Poison arrow (elite)
Dual shot
Distracting shot
Mark of rodgort
kindled flame
conjure flame
Troll ungument (for healing)
Res sig
This is what I use for PvE, does good damage and also set ppl on fire with mark of rodgort, but is not very energy efficient build
So tell me what you think

Sorry but, this build has been posted a million times now. It's centuries old.

hmmm did not know that

You'll have much better results if you run the ubiquitous Burning Arrow/Apply Poison build.
I suppose that running a conjure build can be fun, but the prep time stinks. In your build you need to cast Mark of Rodgort, Conjure Flame, & Kindle Arrows (I'm assuming thats what you meant) before you even attack. Slow IMO.
Build around this:
Marksmanship 16
Expertise 12
Wilderness Survival 7
Burning Arrow {E}
Apply Poison
Distracting Shot
Savage Shot
Dual Arrows / Forked Arrow
Crossfire / Keen Arrow / Marauder's Shot
Whirling Defense / Natural Stride
Troll Unguent
Resurrect Signet

Lol, I love how just about every time someone posts a build they get told to use Burning Arrow instead. For my Conjure Build I use
Barrage [e]
Savage Shot
Conjure Flame
Mark of Rodgort
Gylph of Lesser Energy
Whirling Defense
Troll Ungent
<Optional> Res Sig reccomended
Before engaging in a battle cast lesser energy, Conjure, and then Rodgort on the clump of enemies. Barrage away.
Note: Only good for places with alot of mobs.

Sorry? Perhaps we should change it to 'that build is so unimaginative its not even funny'. Please people... Barrage is not the only ranger elite and Conjure is overrated. Its also highly boring and is probably 1 of the main reasons people stop using rangers. Make up your own frigging build.
Anyway, as for the OP. I'd suggest Ignite Arrows instead of Kindle, just make sure you have a fiery bow string. Might be worth subbing out Dual Shot for Keen Arrow, cheaper and very powerful.

It looked like heckler did create his own build, it doesn't matter that it already existed.
You could bring [wiki]Conflagration[/wiki] rather then a fiery bowstring, would allow the use of a vamp or zealous bowstring. Btw, if [wiki]Mark of Rodgort[/wiki] and [wiki]Ignite Arrows[/wiki] are expected to use their AoE, then so would [wiki]Barrage[/wiki].

Anyway, as for the OP. I'd suggest Ignite Arrows instead of Kindle, just make sure you have a fiery bow string. Might be worth subbing out Dual Shot for Keen Arrow, cheaper and very powerful. I never said Barrage was the only elite. In fact I only use it on Bp build and the Conjure Barrage build. This build being boring is you opinion. I enjoy setting mobs on fire while dishing out damage. And I don't just go to wiki to find builds. My first max damage bow was Fiery when I just started playing and had capped Barrage. I saw Mark of Rodgort and figured it sounded good. Later, as I saw the Conjure Build on forums I added it Conure Flame in. I'm not saying I made up the build but I did create it for myself and it happened other people did too...
And what is your opinion on imaginative builds? How can you tell if a build is imaginative? I'm curious

alright guys thx
I actually did run a build with conflagaration and barrage, but i didn't like it that much, and the conjure build seemed to more damage. the only reason i dont use ignite arrows is because its a factions care and don't feel like paying ppl to run me to ascalon.
but thx again for the comments guys

You could unlock Ignite Arrows with 1k Balth Faction and buy it anywhere in Tyria

Well for 1 an imaginative build won't include both Mark of Rodgort and Conjure Flame or Barrage and Conjure Flame. Taking a common build and changing 1 skill hardly counts. Still doesnt change the fact that Barrage is the most overrated skill a Ranger has and is usually pretty boring to run if your not in a B/P team.

The OPs build was trying designed to inflict fire damage and cause burning. It is highly more efficient for a ranger to run Burning Arrow, that to cast Mark of Rodgort, Kindle Arrow and Conjure Flame. Burning Arrow isn't the only build out there, but it is the viable and more logical alternative to what the OP was running.

First of all, Burning Arrow doesn't inflict fire damage. So unless you are going to wield a fire bow, the build you posted would be a useless suggestion for the OP's build. The build I posted, which I do admit, is kind of like a cookie cutter build deals fire damage and mass burning in areas with Mobs(i.e. Cantha)

Again I stand by my opinion that it requires too much prep time, not to mention that both Mark of Rodgort and Conjure Flame are removable. To each his own I suppose... Master Ketsu
This is the burning arrow build I like to use:
14 expertise 15 marks 3 prot prayers Mah bow: Vampiric Flatbow of fortitude. ( 15^50 ) RTW Burning arrow Screaming shot Distracting shot Savage shot Whirling defense Mending touch Res sig 10 Degen + A good 70-100 damage per shot + interrupts = gg. Best part is you cant really be blinded thanks to teh touch. Evilsod

I think you are using the wrong adjective to display your thoughts. And I don't think Barrage is overrated. I think it is overused. I only use it for two builds as I stated above. And I use it mostly in Cantha becaue of all the mobs or in Tombs/SF/etc for Bp Teams. Barrage is not overrated, people just think it works everywhere but it doesn't; it is overused.
Erm... thats the definition of overrated. People think it works everywhere... therefore its overrated. It just so happens to be overused too.

Overrated-to rate or appraise too highly; overestimate: I think you overrate their political influence. (dictionary.com)
Overrused-to use too much or too often.(dictionary.com) They are definetly different but I understand what you are trying to say; Because everyone think Barrage is 1337(overrated) they use it all the time, even if the Barrage would be bad for the situation(overused). ArKaiN
I`ve used both for some time, and the prep time is indeed the breaker.
If you carry Burning Arrow and Apply poison, you can apply -10 to any foe with apply only as prep. You don't need an elemental weapon and you don't need to boost Fire to a decent level to get good burning. Wilderness has some very good skills other than Apply, and those get the benefit of the attribute being higher also. It's just more solid overall. Darkpower Alchemist
[skill=big]Burning Arrow[/skill]
An outstanding ranger elite, mixed with [skill=card]Apply Poison[/skill],[skill=card]Kindle Arrows[/skill],or[skill=card]Read the Wind[/skill] this skill now opens up a wealth of damage dealing possiblities. The Conjure spells and MoR are still viable within these skills, but are not needed to do damage or degen. The ranger does that just fine with their own skills. |
