Since I recently unlocked all the Ranger skills I was looking at some skills I never really use. I threw some together and made a pretty nice build. It worked well in RA and AB.
Attributes:
16 Marks (12+1+3)
13 Expertise(12+1)
[skill]Quick Shot[/skill]
[skill]Savage Shot[/skill]
[skill]Needling Shot[/skill]
[skill]Marauder's Shot[/skill]
[skill]Read the Wind[/skill]
[skill]Mending Touch[/skill]
<Optional>
<Optional>
For optional I'd reccomend: a Defensive Stance, a Res, Dual Shot, Throw Dirt, Distracting Shot, Running Skill(for AB)
Equips:
Zealous Bow- Other mods don't really matter. I had 15^50 and +5 armor.
I had Druids because it was on my PvE character but energy isn't really an issue.
Start with Read the Wind and spam Quick Shot and Marauder's when it come around. Once your target is below 50% make sure you have Read the Wind and then Spam Needling. I also find Marauder's is good for the final blow. Mending touch is just to remove conditions. Defensive Stance when you have a Sin, Warrior, or Derv bashing on you.
Cons: No self heal, Mesmers, Necros.

Needling Shot is a very fun skill to use. The Quick Shot/Needling Shot build has been done before. I've tried it and noticed that I didn't gain much from Quick Shot as an elite. Even with 13 expertise, without a zealous bow, energy can become an issue. Because I'd rather not use a zealous bow if I don't have to (I prefer increased damage), I threw together different builds to try and make Needling Shot more viable, and less energy hungry. Two combinations I used were Marksman's Wager + Needling Shot, and Prepared Shot + Needling Shot. The first was really nice, but honestly, its energy overkill. Prepared + Needling is really good. As Prepared in itself does some fairly decent damage (unlike Quick Shot). Here's my build.
If you find Quick Shot works for you, go with it I suppose, I just didn't like it, tbh.

Not sure how well it'd do in AB though... Having no self heal in there is just asking to be killed off by degen. Guess if you had a good monk with you and some good use of evasive stances you'd be ok.

Why list no selfheal as a con when you have 2 optional slots? >_>
Even with a low rank in healing....
[skill]Restful Breeze[/skill]

Good suggestion. I just didn't really want to sacrifice points in Marks or Expertise. 16 Marks for max damage and 13 Expertise is the cut off for a 5 energy skill to be 2. When Quickshot only costs 2 energy it is more spamable then 3 energy.
@roblethal-That build looks fun, I'll try it out sometime.

In pve or Fort Aspenwood, I run 16 marksman and 14 expertise. I put the last 3 points into healing for Restful breeze....it gives a full 140hp heal which is alot for having such a low rank in healing. You'd have to have 8 points in Wilderness for Unguent to heal that much. Yeah breeze is an enchantment, but it gives a good heal while allowing you to be flexible with your attrib points. The 1sec casttime is just awesome too. The worst part is not being able to use any skills, but I still think it's a good deal =p
