In case you cant tell what this is, it's a Halo Axe apparantly with the skin of a Gemstone Axe. This axe used to look like the gemstone axe while wielding it but today i jut now noticed that it has changed.
Any ideas on why this is?

Well from the looks of the picture, your Halo Axe looks like what a typical Halo Axe is suppose to be. I've gotten a few Halo Axes over the months and haven't noticed anything really different than the appearance they have had all along.

The icon for the Halo axe has always been the same like the gemstone axe one.
