Hi,
I have tried this masters quest afew times but i just can't keep the scholars alive. After reading wiki i found that the quest is bugged in that all the groups come at the exact same time. It should be 12 different groups?
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Protect_the_Learned
So my question is;Has this quest always been like this or is this a recent bug?
If it's always been like this, anyone have any tips, i just can't keep the level 10's alive ontop of our whole party. Is there a certain strategy we are missing?
Our current build is>
Damage warrior
Trapper/shields up
Ether prog heal party/water ele
Shadow of fear/reapers mark Curses necro
Minion master
Weapon rit (Channeling/Restoration with expel hexes)
Zealous/prot monk
Healing light monk
With three copies of Aegis spread over the party.
(keep in mind alot of these are heroes)
Thinking of switching rit for a sandstorm warder seen wards protect allies as well but not sure.
If anyone can help us out with any of this i would be very thankful. : )

The quest used to be set up to where you didn't actually have to talk to the scholars first. Meaning that they didn't need to be protected, so you couldn't fail. Unfortunately, I never got around to beating the quest before they changed it, so I still have it on my list as well Last quest I got in NF besides Forgotten Keeper and the DoA ones.
In any case, two guildies of mine did it once before. We've tried recreating it with me, but we didn't have any luck. Basically, it was a human Monk, Sousuke and Zhed on SF Ele, Morgahn on some fire enhancing build they had I believe, a human Ranger, some sort of AI Ranger and two more SF Eles I think. They just stood behind the line of AI guards at the entrance there and took em all down with only one or two stragglers escaping.

Yeah we just had another go about 20 minutes ago. This time we went torward the start and made a little wall in abit (on the first stairs) from where they first spawn. We managed to kill the big group of them ~60 or so then another group atleast as big went around the other side and we couldn't catch up to them because we were still battling the first group :/.
We decided to leave it for now, regardless thanks for the suggestion next time we'll try that strategy

How I've always done this is to park 7 characters right outside the hall near the fountain and the rez shrine. The margonites will spawn just a bit further away. The cliffs form a narrow corridor that they will come through and makes it easy to defend before they split right and left to rush through the halls. So I put 7 characters right at the choke point. Then 1 character runs around and talk to all the scholars. Then he run and join the rest of the character.
After that, start fighting the margonites. Any party makeup that are designed to hold ground will work. There is also a lot of corpses, so corpse exploitation is very useful. Two minion mancers will work very well. Not only do they bolster the forces, but they also help clog up the choke point. Necros raising different wells are also very helpful, as are elementalist wards.

Shortly before wintersday you had to talk to the scholars and the margonites came in waves...reasonably possible quest.
During wintersday the quest changed to it's previously bugged state, when you didn't have to talk to the scholars and thus they couldn't die....stupid, but completable.
Last time i tried this quest, you had to talk to the scholars and all waves of margonites came at once steamrolling the lvl10 scholars...a friend sent in a bug report weeks ago, no fix

Can't remember when I did this, quest, but it did seem bugged or something. I got the quest, ran around and talked to all the scholars, then I ran straight for the exit, hit one mob on the right and then got to the exit and kept running down the left side to kill the other mob. Doubled back to the entrance area and flagged the heroes there with individual flags, koss, tahl and olias as MM. I ran back to make sure the citadel was clear then headed back to the entrance. Waited for waves to come, but none did, so I left the citadel. They were all massed right outside the valley.
Went to the bottle neck to the valley, to the right of the res shrine. Pulled out a long bow and aggroed the closest mob, then they all started coming. Body blocked with minions and me (warrior), devona and koss. Had tahl and mhenlo and khim prot and healing us. This was pre-nerf so herta and her sandstorm was pwning them all in that narrow passage. Me and koss had watch yourself and stand your ground, and LB gaze, and olias had pre-nerf jagged bones as well for constant bleed on them. They couldn't get through and eventually we killed them and we broke past the bottle neck. The minions got scattered and I got a bit over confident. There were probably about 3 mobs left when I charged outside. Took them all on but they got behind us and cut down the backline monks and olias so the minions went berzerk. The whole party got wiped but we rezed right at the shrine as they were passing.
Fighting at the shrine, we killed off two mobs, but lost most of my team. Only had devona, koss and myself left, but we managed to chase down the last mob (weren't many of them left either) on the bridge on the tier before the stairs to where all the scholars were.
I guess all I can say is hold them up at the bottle neck and kill as many as you can. If you die, hold at the shrine. If you got a MM and some tanks you should be able to hold easily. Any AoE, like a SF ele would be very handy, triple chop warrior, SS necro. Grab the blessings if you have favour too.

yeah I was a bit suprised taking through with my last character how they replaced a good bug with a bad bug. I'm hoping they fix it to how it was intended.
